I would love a weekly recap for the NBA. I remember HBO had one for the NFL (so only one game obviously) but I loved that show as a kid. Banning owners is less about punishing them and more about removing their toxicity from the league.

It wasn't that the league was conservative. It never has been, really. In the 90s, there was an extreme delineation between the game and the real world. There is still a pervasive rumor Jordan was released from the league due to his gambling becoming a big story. It wasn't about politics. It was about trying not to fracture the fanbase. The security (bounty of $500k) and business side risk that comes with signing him is far greater than what he brings to the table. There's a little bit of "legend" added to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's story. First of all, his not standing for the anthem had nothing to do with his faith, it was his anti-American sentiment. 94-95 He had some nagging injuries, mostly to his knee. 95-96 he missed 25 games and needed knee surgery and he was never the same player. Kings took a chance on him, and he did help the team a bit, but his stats were empty on a bad team. 98 he needed more surgery, and that pretty much did him in. He was never banned or blacklisted, it was just timing that made it look that way. You can see games here on youtube, comparing 93-94 Jackson to 97-98 Abdul-Rauf... doesn't even look like the same player. No explosion, no taking command, he just didn't have the body to do what he did at LSU and his lack of understanding the offense started to show because he could always hide that with athleticism. His "legend" differs from Kaepernick's in that, Kaepernick is a total fraud, whereas Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was genuine with his beliefs. Kaepernick never protested until his numbers dropped and he was benched...for Blaine Gabbart. Now Kaepernick can make money off the narrative (and does, intensionally exploiting the myth) because he's fully aware he couldn't get a job in the NFL after the 49ers, and despite what he and his agent claim, he was given opportunities with the Ravens, Seahawks, Broncos and then even given the opportunity by the NFL and he sabotaged all of them because he was smart enough to know how to make the most money.
