Game theory as we know it today came about because of one man. This man was not just your average man on the street. He was a mathematician, physicist, serial killer animatronics researcher and a bread glove activist named mat pat. His goal is to ruin your childhood.

The problem with the prisoner dilemma in real life is other factors. Like, snitches get stiched, and people don't like rats. The prisoners equation doesn't take in social costs or possible revenges from the other player or even an outside person.

Even if Game Theory justifies it, if you snitch on your friend - you still a rat in my eyes 🐀

First time when I heard about this, it was 6 months ago at a course in faculty from a very smart man called Stanescu who applied this theory in his mathematical research career. I have found it awsome then and I find it awsome today. This theory changes many actions in bussiness. Thank you for the video.

I learned about this in a University Economics class. The fact many kids are learning about this stuff casually explains why kids are getting smarter and smarter

We did the prisoner's dilemma in my college economics class. For the second round, the professor let us talk with the other person before making the decision. Interestingly, we found that a lot more people decided not to confess after having the chance to talk to the opponent, which is likely because they gained their opponent's trust first and were confident that they knew their decision. When there was not a chance to talk, almost every person confessed because it is the dominant equilibrium.

Lol I was just looking for a video on that for my econ review and this shows up. Perfect timing.

I’m sure a lot of people thought this was about MatPat

I like to keep in mind [as well as the inverse to this concept] that, when I'm competing against an expert in a 'game' where I'm a novice at best.... its better for me to stick to the basics of the game that I have learned thus far, then adapt and play the game the way that is best for me. That is to say: to try to be a pro and do what a pro would do. instead, analyze the problem, get creative and solve it your way. .....it is easier to grasp when you are facing the inverse situation. Suppose, as a thought experiment, that you're pro athlete and you're playing 1v1 against a novice. say, boxing, for the sake of this scenario.... if you expect the novice to respond like a pro, you're going to miscalculate your actions. You might throw a feint, thinking that such an obvious punch would get a pro opponen attempt to block the punch. if you fake the punch, the pro opponent will likely block the wrong area and open up a target for your to exploit.... but the novice might be too focused on the basics (footwork and not getting hit) and trying to adapt to fighting a pro to even get that it was a feint. They might see an obvious punch inbound, then react by trying to strike first without blocking. Had you known that the novice wouldn't even attemptto block your punch, you could have just made the punch real and made it clean, so the novice didn't have time to react. Them not blocking isn't what a pro would expect. that doesn't mean that a novice will always win....it means that: 1) beginners luck can potentially be controlled, by either party, if the conditions are correctly read and understood 2) often times, one party won't even realize they are playing a game against an expert...or one might over or underestimate their opposition. This means that adaptation in a game is sometimes more important than the mastery of the game.

We were all thinking of a different game theory

there's this song called "Shape of my heart". The beginning reminded me of that. The lyrics say that a guy is a master of cards, but he played cards only to understand the "Sacred geometry of chance".

Interesting view on the "Game Theory" as I also studied in this topic also. The example to explain the theory in this video is correct, an easier example that i like to use is "The Game of Chicken" of 2 cars going head to head on the same road. If both cars continue head on, both crash (-1) for both. If one evade (-2) and the other brave to continue to drive (+2). If both evade (+1) to each. Action and Reaction. This was the matrix formular that I used in my paper writting.

In the prisoners dilemma, if the most expedient choice (dependent upon time served) is to confess for both prisoners; why wouldnt the best strategy be to assume the other guy will confess and remain silent?

Game Theory is something I’ve been meaning to look into and learn more myself. The only real issue is finding videos on the topic because of The Game Theorists. I like your videos MatPat, they just aren’t what I’m looking for at that point in time lol

I've been trying to find a non-matpat comment Only saw two so far I got tired of looking

I didn't know that this was actually a thing, but I sorta stumbled upon this when I was playing Rainbow Six Siege, I believe it's heavily influenced by the game theory. I'm intrigued now to do more research, who knows maybe I'll be able to influence more matches to go my way
