What an absolute nightmare! Part 8 | 40 Fathoms | Tomb Raider II Remastered | Let's Play 

The beginning of this level will never not be anxiety inducing 😅

Hailing from a city with a rich maritime history (Hull) I thought I'd look into some of the science behind this level... The Maria Doria is located in the Adriatic Sea from what i've read in the past and there are at least 47 species of shark that could be encountered there,including Great Whites. 40 fathoms is 240 feet,although the mean depth of the Adriatic is 240 metres. Divers have been known to swim down to depths of 1000 feet, so no deep sea diving gear would be required, although I very much doubt anyone could hold their breath as long as Lara is required to 😅 The Adriatic has a blue hue and because of it's importance to neighbouring countries is not as polluted as it might be and is therefore relatively clear.The lush coral foliage on the sea bed has, in the last 20 years or so and,ironically, been contaminated by invasive algae brought in from the Red Sea by ship's anchors amongst other things.Maybe this is why the sea bed has more foliage on it than we remember ! And I agree, that harpoon gun is utterly useless.Imagine trying to reload that whilst a shark is trying to bite your head off !

It's crazy how much they have upgraded the graphics and details with the latest update, when I played through these levels they looked great, but this is on another level!😮

suzanne the underwater levels are always difficult in tomb raider games because lara can't jump to dodge so she always ends up being lunch for the sharks😂

This might be my favourite level from the Maria Doria. In my opinion it has the most consistent narrative of the 4 and it’s not overloaded of enemies like the following ones. The opening of the level is absolute craziness as all the algae makes it very hard to see the debris and in the Wreck it clouds the key towards the end. Bravo to you for standing brave against the massive amount of water, the sharks and the frogman.

You became a shark snack a few times LOL but you still rose and conquered ! Great vid!

I think they're kinda cute🦈(other than the teeth) Other than the first few Lara Snacks the sharks had, the little barracudas (and the one frog man!) were much more keen on ruining Lara's leisurely swims.

The biggest thing I don't like about these levels is Lara running around barefoot over all that rust. So gross.

These levels still give me anxiety to this day. I can't imagine having thalassophobia and being able to do this. So, you should definitely be proud of yourself! 😁😁 Just a heads-up: I'm noticing some digital distortion/glitching in the darker parts of this video. I think it might be a bitrate-related issue with your new capture software? (This usually has something to do with the bitrate being either too high or low but I'm unsure.)

I got the Tomb Raider remasters last week I started with Tomb Raider 3 which I find the easiest then I did Lost Artifact then Tomb Raider 2 followed by Golden Mask I have nearly done Tomb Raider 1 then I will finish off with Unfinished Business.

I wonder why are there so many gun guys in this sunken ship Are they people who got sunk along with the ship or are they divers who got in before lara came?

The sharks in this level scared the hell out of me as a kid. Always hated sharks. Even the robot sharks in Spyro 2 scared kid me!

“I am fearless… argh!!” brilliant stuff. I always swim past the sharks and fish - if you’re fast enough they don’t catch you. Although I can imagine if you’re panicky it might be more difficult. I love that, after putting all those holes in the ceiling to make the lighting in TR1 all realistic, they’ve just gone “errr, yeah, the ship’s lit up because of… magic ahem bye” Outdoor stuff seems to do best with these remasters, the lighting and sky and plants all benefit most. Cannot wait to see your reaction to Golden Mask, it’s incredible!

Hey Suzanne always enjoy watching your TR video walkthroughs! Btw this may sound weird or out of place for some that don’t understand it or because for it’s taboo view? When growing up at a small age I’ve always had a wired attraction for female feet. For a lot of guys into women feet, feet attraction can be deep in detail and characteristics like various sizes and shapes as a example. Still love and appreciate women with pretty feet to this day! Since you’ve started the underwater section of TR 2, Lara’s updated bare feet model is cute 🥰. Upclose view of the tops and bottoms of her feet detail in photo mode is really good, nowhere near perfect but so much better than her old blocky shaped bare feet. Because in the original PS1/PC version graphics she had no actual formed toes lol 😂. Even in the TR 2 FMV after level 11 the deck when she swims up to the surface, her feet are also block like cheese with no feet detail in that cutscene. Wish they’ve updated the movie cutscenes to match the remastered graphics. This is one of my favorite bare feet Lara swimming outfits ❤️. Thank you for reading my uniquely weird comment about Lara’s updated nice feet Suzanne ❤️❤️🫣🫣😂 Just a detail I wanted to mention while being honest about my feet quirk. I know this is a first to read 😂😂 I love women toes of various lengths, especially super long ones❤️❤️ nothing extremely long though.

You did a flippin' amazing job getting through the sharks and cudas! Seems like the shark was more afraid of you at first in the second secret area!! 😎 They seem to have touched up this level since the patch was released. The seaweed on the ocean floor and the drippy holes in the ceilings weren't there when I played! (I was up to The Deck when the patch came out). I've always been fascinated by the ship levels, and by old ocean liners in general. Everytime I've played the game, I've always tried to map out an imaginary ship deck plan and figure out which abstract room could've been what in real life. For example, I've always thought the two rooms with debris near the end are cargo holds with the debris being corroded cargo and the door between the rooms being the cargo hatches!

Hello Suzanne, very difficult this level

Firstly I have to say you're so brave confronting your phobia, just imagine somebody who is claustrophobic stuck between rocks in a cave, or somebody who has a fear of heights escaping from the top floor of flats. It really is no joke. That last frogman is so tough and ornery. You thought we wouldn't notice the judicious edits in your channel members name call ... in one breath? ... I don't think so 😏. 💙

Suzanne, when I see you suffering so much, especially at the beginning of the episode, I would love to comfort you. Feel cuddled by me. You are a very good raider and took out both sharks. But the sharks also look really scary. 😱😌 Despite everything, I found this short level a little more interesting than the previous two levels. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="660">11:00</a> The Barrucudas look scary too. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="870">14:30</a> Very good performance. All sharks and barracudas taken care of by then. 💪 I managed it too. And it felt very good to have achieved that. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1280">21:20</a> Very good. Killing all the fish in this level can be done. However, I still have a lot of question marks in my brain as to how this should work with New Game+. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1290">21:30</a> ... Nice switch puzzle towards the end with great music and some cool sound effects.

The notorious 40 fathoms level. I never manage to kill those sharks at the beginning. Imagine if you were diving and there were sharks? Haha. Anyway, I was impressed with the new graphics on this level. I like the new footsteps sound effect. Millennial games are just irreplaceable. If they remade Tomb Raider 1 2 and 3 like Anniversary, I wouldn’t have purchased it. By the way, I liked the way you said Jesus! You reminded me a bit of that football coach in Bend It Like Beckham. I love Irish accents!

Hi, That was not the remaster it was the update that made the water murky. So you could not see in it.

Was that heartbeat in the original?

Remember the movie The Abyss? This level always reminded me of that movie. I've read the fluid they used in the movie is actually real, as well as the scene with the rat. One rat was so freaked out by the fluid that it went into cardiac arrest and was apparently revived by James Cameron who kept it as a pet. While the fluid does work, apparently a problem with it is that if some of it stays in your lungs it can cause issues like pneumonia... which is why its not a commonly used thing for deep sea diving. It also looks like a rather uncomfortable experience.
