In this video I fish in an absolutely stunning location (or two) and haul out some fat trout!

** LINES: 12-foot level line (#3.5) with a few feet of tippet and then an 11-foot #3.5 level line
** FLY: Size 12 green UV yarn kebari with black hackle

It's a popular swimming hole in the summer months, but it was a little bit chilly for that when I visited.

Like catching fish in a barrel almost... great spot, tho admittedly prefer fast rivers, aka, creeks, ie, more sport slash funner! lol. First time on this channel am more familiar with your other one. Likewise have stated my days out west ended some time ago and all my outdoor fun with it. The streams and creeks out there brought endless enjoyment for the scenery as much as the fishing and hiking - seemed to go hand in hand. You're getting to do all the things I used to and am appropriately envious. And make money off it (on RU-vid) too. Back in the day I'd have killed for that opportunity.

A few years after Tom Davis reviewed the Nissin Pro Spec 320, I decided I must have one. Initially in the review, he compared it to the Tenkara USA Rhodo, a rod he likes for tight spaces, saying that until now (2015) the Rhodo had no contenders in its niche. When I read the review, I owned the Rhodo, and it's still one of my favorite rods, and that prompted me to get the Nissin Pro Spec 320. I found it outstanding for my overgrown fishing grounds in the western mountains of Maine. It was great to hear you praising its slightly larger brother, the Nissin Pro Spec 360 in this week's video. Another fine video, by the way.

Hi Robert. The rod I use here is the Pro Square, not the Pro Spec. The Pro Square is a single-length (not zoom) rod.

Hilarious! First they must muse "That guy has no reel. How can that work?" Then they see you catch big fish one after the other. "What in the world is his juju?" So they finally bail out. THEN they see you catch a good one out of a puddle! WHAT in the world have you done to those poor people!?? Chust wunnerful !!

Hi. I'm se this fishing technique first time in my life. And I follow Tenkara fishing for last three days. It's amazing what can be fun to use simply rod and have a fun 👍👍 Unfortunately in Europe is hard to bay that rod. I'm wonder what kind of fly is use when fishing with Tenkara?? They are dry or wet fly?? I can't find anywhere information about this. Thanks Regards from Poland 🇵🇱🇵🇱

Traditional tenkara flies are wet flies, but some people fish tenkara with dry flies.

Where do you hold you rod when you get a big fish like that? I was fishing on a 12 ft rod with a 13 ft line the other day and hooked onto a big one, maybe the biggest one ive hooked on tenkara but it magically got off. I love the challenge of barbless hooks but am having a hard time keeping some on once hooked with the tenkara especially (verses my fly rod that i can strip to keep tension). Any tips?

Say, I'm new to tenkara and I was just wondering, how do you fish your kebari flies? Do you use a floatant and fish then on the surface, or do you let them sink and fish then below the surface?

They are traditionally wet flies. Unless I'm mistaken, in essence, Tenkara is a lot like nymphing.

I'll "bite". Haven't touched my fly rods and reels for years. Don't miss them at all. I guess if the Steelhead numbers ever recover or if I ever go trolling deep from a pontoon boat on a lake again I might dust them off. I just love the simplicity of Tenkara, plus I combine it with trail running and fast packing, so it just makes sense to have such a packable, simple fishing set-up.
