Congrats Josh. I've been watching your videos every time Im on route to my flight school. Whether I'm practicing stalls or pattern work. Watching your videos is like a refresher before actually taking my flight lesson with my CFI. Being a past RU-vidr who never had a big following. I watched your VFR navigation log video at least 6~8 times and built all mine following your video religiously. I went to my checkride with the handwriting navigation log and once I started explaining the navigation log piece by piece, the DPE cut me off within about one minute, she knew what I was up to, I passed🤣!

Where has the time gone? I ended up in Iraq 24 months later. Took my first C130 ride from Ali Al Salem to the Mosul International Airport! Did one of those god damn “emergency descents”. Actually, I don’t know what you call them, but it’s like a roller coaster ride in the back! Then we walked like ducks in a line across away from the aircraft with all our gear. That was how I spent my first seconds of the next 17 months and my first time ever being in a combat zone. Thanks C130 pilots! (If I’d been smarter I’d have joined the AF😂.
We call it a penetration descent. Emergency descents are downright scary. Pen-Ds are used so we spend the least amount of time possible in range of different weapons systems. When were you there? I might’ve been your pilot
December of 2003 to March 2005. Afghanistan was August 13 - June 14, although it was a C17 that hauled us from Mannas to Bagram, and then eventually to Romania. That was only a couple months after that horrible accident with the civilian cargo plane crash right off the runway after those MRAPS broke loose and crashed through the back section of the aircraft and the pilots lost all control authority!😢 Flying in the Hindu Kush has got to be almost as crazy as Alaska!

I definitely need to make a video on this. The moral of the story is to use the GI bill. You can even get your PPL paid for as long as you are using it towards a degree bearing program
