I would normally cheer for Lidl Trek and Mads Pedersen, but I must admit that for the last 10 K I was shouting and cheering for Romain. So many years in pro cyckling and never had a yellow jersey. Well he's in yellow now and he earned it the hard way. Such a well deserved win.

A great win and a fantastic ride, they are both worthy of great praise. But lets not forget, deep down we never want to see Frenchmen win the Tour de France.

@@gabrielgordillo6920 35 years or 135 years, I don't care. It's never not always great, to see the French not win their own race. I always enjoyed watching the way Julian Alaphilippe races. With guile, strength, panache, style and character. Loved him. But would I ever like to see him win the Tour? Absolutely not, because he's a bloody Frenchman.

What I love about cycling races is that it makes people cheer for anyone from any team or any nation if they perform heroically. I dont think there is anyone who wouldnt be euphoric watching the two cross the line first. You dont really see that in other sports.

The 23 year old was the true champion of the day. He graciously let his team mate take yellow, but he dominated everyone today. I wonder if Pog feels old?

I was exctatic about Franck and Romain performance . But Pog is at 5 sec away wihtout spending a quarter of the energy needed for the 2 to win the stage...They don't have the same goals...Pog plays the general, Romain plays the maillot à pois, and it's first tour for Franck...

Roman is a very popular rider. For a well loved Frenchman to win the 1st stage of a stacked Tour is just incredible. This Tour is looking to be the best for a long time 👍

If Frank ever has to buy himself a beer in France, there is no justice. Romain was barely able to pull through in the last few km. Love it when a break holds on by a few seconds, but especially when there is an underlying story like Romain getting his first yellow jersey in his last Tour.

Really, really poor coverage at the end. Rather than showing all the riders on the podium with their new leaders jerseys they spend the time on Cav coming in 30+ minutes after Bardet.

Perhaps the peloton wanted the two to win or told to on their radios. Hard to imagine with less than 1500m to go and 15 seconds and not able to catch them.

He's been cycling since he's 12, apparently he was into korfball before he got an injury. I'd say at this young age it's irrelevant, the guy's a cyclist
