As someone who suffers from anxiety daily, I just got anxiety from watching this. I’ve been though the same emotional battles as this character. My heart just aches for her. I hope anyone and everyone who suffers from anxiety gets help. It’s the best thing you can do ❤️

Damn. Those moments of breathing and panic and talking to herself "it's fine". Trying to disassociate, not to feel like you're spiralling. I feel it. I feel it so much.

I had to stop it a few times...I became one with her, as a person who suffers from terrible anxiety and panic attacks...I cried and i felt less alone... Suranne is always phenomenal in anything...Its like she lived everything before... Lots of support to everyone who feels this pain inside...May we all heal. ❤️

This is an incredible job of the production staff as well. The camera being so close to her during the anxiety attack, panning to triggers like the falling dish. How overly loud the sounds are, the sense of helpless urgency, add to this performance.

When this happens I need to be alone so I can get control of my thoughts that have spun out of control. Most of the people I know have learned to allow that but I can remember when people would surround me and, although they meant well, they were just making it worse. It's difficult for all who are involved. This video is triggering. I had to stop it and come back to it later because the first time I tried to watch it my heart started racing, tears started to fall, and I almost entered a full on panic state. The video is a good depiction of anxiety and I would recommend it.

Taking everything to heart too much is what anxiety does to sufferers. It doesn't make the person see the bigger picture. Causes low confidence and low self-esteem. A horrible cycle. Friends and family need to be supportive, encouraging, understanding and forgiving.

Crikey. As someone who has mild anxiety issues, who's last relationship was with someone who's anxiety was off the scale, the portrayal here is terrifyingly accurate. She genuinely triggers my flight response. makes me want to run away and hide, even though I know it's not her fault and she needs support.

We are not weak we are strong. To others we seem crazy or whatever but that says more about them to pass judgement on people and to treat people like thay do. If they were fighters like is they would be completely differant and compassionate. People don't understand something they don't know about. Stay strong. This is spot on. I felt like this for so long AND never thought I could let it show. I just had to swallow my panic and was very, very angry and felt violent a lot of the time. The loneliest feeling in the world. So normal and familiar, I don’t even find this triggering. I have been very lucky to have had weekly therapy now for 15 months and I’m a very different place now.

@IT'S MANDY BARKER. Hi, Mandy Barker! Do you take supplemental magnesium? Please don't dismiss this without reading it through, bcz I had an experience that led me to appreciate the potential value of magnesium for anxiety...or even magnesium deficiency as one of its causes. This incredible performance reminded me of my mother. She was so often like this throughout our lives, and usually I took the brunt of it if I was around, so I kept my distance as much as possible. In her mid-90s, however, w the beginnings of dementia and living in a retirement home, we became closer. For months, she would call me every night & I would help her to settle down for sleep. And so, early on I saw that anxiety made that very hard for her, even with her anxiety and sleep medications. So simply to try to help her sleep, I had her start taking 1/2 tsp of magnesium citrate each night before bed (altho' she took this herself, so I don't really know how much she actually took). I had read that it could help w sleep, as well as w anxiety, but I was only thinking about it for sleep since she took anxiety meds. The formulation I sent her was a powdered magnesium citrate from Bulk Supplements that was NOT formulated to act as a laxative, and this seemed to help w her sleep, altho' it's possible other formulations might have helped as well. In any case, I also noticed a general easing of her anxiety but assumed that was due partly to her dementia and partly to some new meds she had started taking. Eventually her magnesium ran out, and it took 5 days to get more to her. And during these 5 days, there was a significant transformation in her from general calm and peace of mind to frequent bouts of anger and fear that I couldn't account for. It was as if her old self had suddenly returned, despite the dementia. For instance, the presence at her dining table of a gentleman she didn't like but had always been able to tolerate ("He's just weird. It's ok, but he's just weird.") suddenly disturbed her so much that every single day, from day 1 to day 5, she declared w great intensity of emotion, "I hate him! I hate him; I HATE him!!" even tho' he had done nothing to warrant that change! She also, of course, started having trouble w her sleep again. Then her magnesium finally arrived, and she took her 1/2 tsp on the 5th night. And the very next day, she was back to peace and tranquility! And the most she ever said about that gentleman again was simply, "No, he's still weird, but it's okay," if she even mentioned him at all. And so, it was only then that I began to appreciate the tremendous benefit of magnesium for anxiety - at least, the non-laxative form of mag citrate - and just wanted to share this story to demonstrate it's value for anyone who suffers like this but isn't aware of supplemental magnesium as an aid or perhaps it's deficiency as a cause. Sending a warm hug and wishing you much ease and peace of mind. No one deserves to suffer like this.

How powerful! Suranne Jones and the film capture the extreme highs and lows of anxiety. I believe that the actress here has stated in interviews that she suffered with issues regarding her mental health. This is a powerful message. On this recording, it's not possible to see a message for being aware of the nature of the subject and context of the programme. People need to be able to reach out locally and discuss some of the triggers here. Watching on RU-vid in Australia May 2024

For me the best description of the emotion of depression was the short scene where she is looking out of the window (not in this clip) and her expression just before she opens the window. The pain and relief all at the same time takes me back to when I was suffering.

Amazing acting, especially Suranne. She really captured the claustrophobic feeling of anxiety ....the restlessness, the feeling of being breathless as if in a race, the inability to control your emotions that go up and down like a yo-yo. Particularly liked the make-up scene .....the mask people with anxiety have to wear to pretend to society that everything g is OK. Anything,no matter how small and insignificant to others, can trigger an anxiety attack.

Wonderful performance and an accurate portrayal of anxiety. I don’t have anxiety but grew up in a home with an anxious bipolar sister and a rageful bipolar mother. This just reinforced my adult decision not to date people with serious mental illness like anxiety. I know what it’s like to have someone’s mental Illness fill a home and leave nothing and no space for anyone or anything else. Lived it as a child and promised myself never again

I grew up in a household with an anxious bipolar sister and a rageful bipolar mother. When I watched this, I was like "The husband needs to walk away and let her collect herself. When someone is in that state, they're not going to hear anything you have to say. Just go away." It was hard for me to watch because I've seen all this and worse. We responded by walking away from each other as a family and isolating sometimes for hours days or months. 30 years later and we still can't really tolerate being together. Mental issues shred a family and the normal connections that people form with people they love

Hi, Channel 4. Every time the camera shakes unnecessarily, it breaks the suspension of disbelief. It stops me from becoming absorbed in a fictional programme because it repeatedly jolts me back to my real life, as I keep thinking about how I wish the camera would stay still. Yes, there are exceptions, such as when a character is running and we, as viewers, are going with them, but for an entire drama, no. If I look from person to person at people sitting at a table or walking around a room, my vision does not wobble around like that, even if I flit back and forth repeatedly. Please advise programme makers against shaking the camera.
