If he engaged people with a perfect wording, grammar and accent, he would probbaly not bind that easily One thing is sure, don't be shy to talk, even with mistakes

I wonder if bald himself saw this video. As a Russian native you made some good points. He is able to communicate in any circumstances but not to adequately express himself. That being said I still love all his videos and I respect him for learning the language in the first place. Mostly when he is rude it’s in a funny way and not an insulting one.

Whether or not studying grammar makes sense, unfortunately I hate it so much (probably from my bad experience at school where it was just so freaking boring) that I simply decided to stop it.. otherwise I wouldn't be learning languages anymore. However I understand your point that for studying Russian learning a certain amount of grammar makes sense. Your videos definitely help!

В России не многие знают английский на приемлемом уровне, но почти всегда хорошо относимся к иностранцам, которые хоть как-то пытаются сказать или спросить на нашем языке. Стесняться не надо, это точно. Сказал я, стесняясь своего уровня английского языка)) Если что, фразу "я хочу видеть Москву" правильнее будет сказать "я хочу увидеть Москву" или "я хочу посмотреть Москву"😉

For a Western European, an investment in learning Cyrillic is wise and simple - at least you can read the street/shop/metro signs. I speak German very well but it deteriorates rapidly if I'm out of the country. We have to forgive B&B for not being perfect.

Привет, I'm French, i learn Russian since 3 years ( 3 weeks after falling in love with a Russian woman ) and these videos from Bald and Bankrupt inspired me. I met my girlfriend just before Coronavirus so we had to wait for a new encounter, and when some borders were open for us except in Russia ( no Europeans allowed), we met in Ouzbékistan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaïdjan, and i spoke there in Russian everyday... Little words at the beginning and complete phrases today, like Mr BALD. I focused on words, some very little grammar just when i wanted to have a headache, and after one year of smartphone apps and Books, i switched to mangas and anime. You can find all this in Russian. The best manga for me is Пять невест , it's for girls, i know, but it uses a good everyday language, and for anime ?.. why not Аттак на титанов, или, Пять невест 😆 You have a lot of choice.. И сейчас я могу говорить по-русски каждый день, с моя любимая 🥰.

From what Ben has said in various videos, he has not spent the last 30 years continuously learning and speaking Russian. In a video with Roman NFKRZ, IIRC, he said that he had spent a lot of his life in the UK working on building sites and the construction industry, and he also spent a few years in India travelling and running a backpackers' hostel there. Whilst in India, he learned to speak the local language (Hindi I think). So he may have had considerably long periods in his life where he was not practising his Russian and maybe not even reading or writing it or revising and relearning existing Russian knowledge.

As long as you can conjugate your verbs correctly, it is perfectly possible to speak Russian without cases. Yes your speech will be ugly and it will not sound 'correct' but if you just want to travel to Russia and have a good time, you don't need the cases. Benjamin is spot on in his approach, the average Russian doesn't speak a single word of English, and travelling there can be very challenging for people who don't speak the language, especially outside of Moscow / St Petersburg. Broken Russian is 10000x better than not speaking Russian at all

I can totally confirm, that if you want to learn to converse in any foreign language, you need to get out of your introvert bubble, and befriend native speakers of whatevet language you are trying to learn.

I follow Benjamin since 1996.... Okay okay. Perhaps not that long. But he is cool 🙂 Wish I could just go there like he does but for the Dutch that is unfortunately impossible. Only Extremely expensive organized trips. If anyone knows another way than please please please tell me.

Я заметил что вы сказали: " К сожалению, русская грамматика сложна". Лучше был сказать: " русская грамматика сложная". Кроме этого, все прекрасно!!! Я начал изучать русский язык в 2018 году, и в тот период мне не понравился этот язык потому что мне было трудно запомнить много правилах. И моя учительница советовала мне говорить с правильной грамматикой. Это было невозможно потому что мой мозг работает над акцентом и другими акпестом русского языка. Мне было стыдно, поэтому Я почти решил останавливаться изучать русский язык. Но к счастью, во время картина, Я нашел несколько видео на русском языке и они поделились что для начинающих русского языка, нам нужно выучить много слов. Это совет даёт мне говорить больше и больше хотя был Я мог делать много ошибок. Сейчас я могу понимать вас довольно прекрасно. Я знаю что мне надо сфокусироваться на грамматику. Да, буду заниматься серьезно. Не останавливайтесь! Если долго мучиться, что-нибудь получится!

In Russia there are a lot of labor immigrants from poorer post soviet countries, many of them don't know Russian well, but even if they mess all the grammar, people understand them anyway, it's really common and Russians are ok with this.

I did this in Germany rosetta stone & just talked to people all time even if i got teased and learned derogatory words etc. so i knew if someone was talking badly about me.

Mr Bald spent a lot of time in 🇮🇳. He is a pragmatic person, he would probably learn many languages to a decent level rather than perfecting one, so learning Russian for 30 years is alright considering that he is also learning Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, etc. It took me forever to learn English (it's only when i moved to an English -speaking country that my command of the language grew and more importantly "ramained". We can also forget a language over time if we don't use it. I understand Mr. Bald had a Belarusian chick (to use his word) and therefore he may have been some time alone while he was bankrupt (everybody knows that Russian chicks come with a price tag 😂 just joking of course... hmmm it applies to all chicks 😂) I enjoyed trying to understand the sounds of another language. It takes time to get it. I could never figure out how good his Russian sounded, let alone if he had a strong accent. But I never found him impolite or rude. He is a true gentleman!

Знаете, в чем скрытое преимущество наличия спряжений для каждого местоимения? Вы можете использовать глаголы БЕЗ местоимения, в отличие от германских языков, в которых использование местоимения обязательно. Например, если сказать "Going", то непонятно, кто или что идёт или едет. Русское "Иду" или "Еду" сразу определяет совершающего действие и способ передвижения. И таких примеров по этому принципу можно привести много. А как филолога, свободно говорящего на английском, меня очень раздражает, что в английском у повелительного наклонении нет специальных окончаний в словах.

I'm been learning russian at the side for 4 months now, before I used to study everyday and I got burned out, now I'm leaning it via songs, 'cuz I already know cases, but Honestly, I'm kinda lost, I'm starting to get to those long frases and i'm just... У Бальда очень плохой русский язык, и понять его можно с трудом. Только в простых ситуациях он изъясняется более-менее. Зато он очень коммуникабелен, это факт.

Here is what I learned about Russian language. When someone says "what? I'm just hanging out near your house doing excercise" it means "I'm getting ready to break into your house". When he says "I'm just defending myself" it means "you need to defend yourself" When he says "yes of course, I'm telling the truth" it means "yes of course, I'm lying to your face" After that I really don't want to learn anything else about Russia.

I've been living in Russia for 3 years without speaking Russian and I have worked and lived normally here. It is important to speak this language of course but you can live without it anyway.
