Capers are an unusual superfood loaded with polyphenols. They can be found growing WILD in the Mediterranean and are a food you should be interested in including into your diet.

My mother used to make a Hungarian snack for us when we were kids. Cottage cheese, not the wet creamy kind, the drier version, mixed with a bit of sour cream, finely diced onion, paprika, lots of capers, salt and pepper. We ate it on fresh rye bread like it was candy!! It was called Turo!

One of the best things I ever had was capers as a garnish on carpaccio. They were deep fried and sprinkled with salt and gave such a wonderful texture to the dish, as well as being delicious, even though I am not quite as fussy on the brined variety right out of the jar.

Yikes!,, No need to add salt- some people even rinse them, although it doesn’t really remove much of the salt. Try them browned or even blackened in butter and add them on top of sautéed flounder or sole. (Martha Stewart) Really, really fantastic! I often serve it to guests and everyone totally raves! For less salt use unsalted butter, but I always use salted.

A caper is a pickled nasturtium SEED not the bud. Please ensure your information is correct before posting.
