What are Deathclaws? Fallout 4 Theories and Lore 

So at long last, here it is. Deathclaws. I have put this video off, but I hope it was worth the wait. Any extra support on this one would be great :) As always, feedback and suggestions are appreciated and welcome :)

Just a note about the Chameleon Deathclaws. The Jackson Chameleon and I'm pretty sure all species of Chameleon do not and cannot change colour based on surroundings, they change colour quickly depending on mood, health, and temperature.

First encounter with a Deathclaw in Fallout 3: Heh, it looks like a little imp. I'm gonna shoot it. *bang* Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap! This was a bad idea!

I think it would have been a great feature if the friendly deathclaw would randomly appear and help you in a fight after bringing the egg back

did you know you can tickle dwathclaws in fallout 4 to make them docile and will follow you? you have to sneak up and tickle their belly.

It's kind of unnerving when the friendly one is looking at you because it's well looking at you and that's horrifying.

I have been missing, the intelligent, talking deathclaws.. The deathclaws, that just want to live their life's in peace :/ It was in Fallout 2, you met a vault, filled with death claws.. Just as you think, "Oh darn, im so dead now.." The biggest deathclaw, starts talking with you.. Telling you, among other things, that they are the result, of Enclave scientists, using the FEV virus, on a special type of lizard, the goal, was to make a new type of super soldier, to combat the super mutants of the wasteland.. They are infact, highly intelligent, and quite capable, of individual thoughts and deciding for them selves.. You also learn, that most of them, simply see humans, as beeing an inferior race, and seeing as the humans always fear them, and stay away from them, for beeing monsters, they might as well live the role, as a monster... But I guess, Beth didnt really play the game, before they took over the franchise... You actually meet, a few of the Enclave Deathclaws, highly intelligent, wearing speciallized power armor, and utilizing, the claws, for weapons... I wish, the original Deathclaws, could return, at some point :)

I wish that you could get that one friendly deathclaw as a companion. It'd be badass.

I always assumed that the jackass that made the deathclaw's used, chameleon and other reptile/amphibian , plus mammal Probably canines and bears since I'm positive I've seen these guys have identical colorations to said animals. That could explain why it has some pack like tendencies and a weird reptile/canine like face with the mammalian nose, also the huge fucking claws. I also think human or some other primates DNA was implemented as well because of its bipedal stance and the military probably wanted a somewhat smart creature. Also goat for shits and giggles.

It's been a long time since I've seen your videos (new channel, lost track of subscriptions), but I'm genuinely happy to see you're still making Fallout content. I always learn something new from your videos.

The Matriarch's scales represent more suitable for camouflage. Kinda like how in birds and lizards, the males will develop more bright colors to impress the females while the females will become more dull in color to blend in with it surroundings. It's typically found with those specifics because they stay with the eggs. I can imagine the red in the scales for Alpha is more for prominent and dominant colors to show off his authority. The colors of Mallard ducks are perfect example for the difference in colors and reasons for it as well.

I like how you first get introduced to the Deathclaw in Fallout by Harold, and how there is a mythology around them even at that point as he says that you can't look at they eyes, or they'll hypnotise you. At the level you first take it on, it can take the Vault Dweller plus several companions to defeat it, and you are left with a feeling of how badass you are for just killing the mythical Deathclaw! Then, a bit later on, you get asked to go take out a nest of them in one go...

Good work as always. A nice companion piece to the first Deathclaw video. Natick was the first place I ever saw an Albino Deathclaw. Saw him from a distance and it scared the shit out of me. The big bastard was just standing on a rock like he owned it. I introduced him to my Gauss Rifle. He didn't like it. Also, every Chameleon Deathclaw I've killed has turned dark red after it died. It would actually be scarier if it stayed that color.

I killed a deathclaw with a powerfist.

Plot twist: they’re snapping turtles. Look at the armor on its back, at least Fo4 versions. Take an average Mud Dragon Snapping Turtle and how aggressive it is, now picture radiation fusing it’s shell to its back and mutating to grow spikes. With the armor infused, turtles can focus on staying more out of shell and walking along with that aggressiveness, you have a deathclaws.

That is interesting, I never knew there was a non-hostile Deathclaw until now. Now I want try to find it... And give it a hug >X-]

idk if you've ever tried this but like before all the dlc for this game you could console command script up to like 3 npcs to become active followers. Using deathclaws (not sure if they fixed this) resulted in total chaos everytime you entered a town.

The first time I played fallout, I played fallout 3 and accidentally stumbled upon old Olney. You can imagine how that went.

I hate Deathclaws

I'll never forget my first time playing Fallout 3, no idea where the hell I was but I do remember being max level with some sweet Power Armour, just casually walking around fucking shit up when out of NOWHERE I get jumped by 3 of these absolute monstrosities! Tore me apart immediately and I never went back to that area

watching some of your old videos and i can tell you've improved

something about the smoother animations of fo4's deathclaws makes them significantly less intimidating the rigid, janky animations used for 3/NV made deathclaws terrifying, since they make a mad dash at you, holding out their arms like they want to give you a hug that would result in you being crushed like a watermelon under a hydraulic press or skewered across their hands like a sample platter at a grocery store

I'm imagining a deathclaw hacking a terminal to get some cram.

Once during a settlement attack, I saw a deathclaw pick up a settler while digging his claws into his head then throw him aside... only for the settler to get back up a moment later. Gotta love essential or half-essential NPCs.

Been playing Fallout 2 and apparently there were some intelligent Deathclaws that could talk. I feel that running into talking Deathclaws would be the thing of nightmares in modern day's graphics.

Flying Chameleon Deathclaws sound like a great idea.

Deathclaws are literally my favorite fictional "monster". Each one is like a mini-Tarrasque.

I honestly love the Deathclaws in Fallout 4. There's nothing like playing survival mode, getting fully immersed; then stumbling across a fucking Deathclaw in the fog.... It's genuinely scary running to the nearest house, hearing growls right behind you as the fucking ground shakes.

Dont you just love it when u get trapped in the tower at lynn woods by 2 deathclaws with no fatman...

6:40 actually shooting their tail off makes it really hard for them to run full speed at you, because they use it for balance.

fun fact: one of the first times i ever played Fallout 3, passing through a super duper mart, i came across a friendly giant radscorpion (being a noob at the time, i played with the neaby junk with it) then coming near the first metro, got myself in a small fight with raiders, using a hunting rifle, only to they fire in another position where at the time i called them "yellow Shreks" (super mutants). it wasn't long until everything got silent, the fight music was still on (thought it was a glitch, but i was wrong), on which a deathclaw came out of nowhere (survived it by shooting the shit out of it, thought it was the grim reaper's pet)

Dude, first time I played, I didn't go to the roof, I went out the front door. I had to fight the Deathclaw without Power Armor and Minigun... it was the most epic and intense matchup with many close calls (barely dodging those claws), etc.

Also, if you shoot off their tail, and lose the deathclaw, go back and shoot the tail that was shot and you’ll still damage the deathclaw.
