Thanks for showcasing our industry. We provide free microgrids for multi-family buildings in the EU and USA and we divide up the wholesale payments between tenants and owners. At Zomepower - Our motivation is moving the residential power consumption to a renewable electric grid and reducing the pollution from peaker plant generation. The wholesale market pays for all the equipment and the installation. We added the technology to make it easy to equip entire buildings secure and loved by tenants. We just need more landlords to care about the environment.

@@HomersIlliad Wind and solar are simply unable to power a large city effectively and reliably on their own. Nuclear fission (and eventually fusion) must be a part of the grid if we want to combat climate change whilst reliably supplying our electricity needs.

I would love to see some content from you on BIM for single-family homebuilding. I work in this sector and it seems to be falling way behind by mostly refusing to use BIM. Not many of us use it for homebuilding, and those of us who do have hard time finding with contractors who do and getting contractors on board who don't.

Brilliant. Although you took your time with the glass, it is at last here and marketed. That is all surfaces a building can be of now capable of being used to gather energy. I suppose the next bit is breaking nepotism in construction contracts, and allowing these creative innovations access to the market place. Our next cities should be the most efficient ever.

Good video. The use of solar and wind on a micro scale is more economical and more practical. Smaller scale use allows for better maintenance and durability. City governments and private owners can keep maintenance costs down and prevent excessive down time. But the larger scale operations have draw backs that haven’t been addressed properly. Wind turbines are noisy, kill thousands of endangered birds every year, and are susceptible to lightening and strong winds. Solar farms take up lots of space, are brittle, and accumulate tons of dust. Reliability and durability are just as important as power output and cost.

Microgrids hold great potential, but utilities don't like the economics of them so they will lobby for legislation and rules to limit or eliminate them wherever possible. Be politically active and alert if you want to see them in your area.

Microgrids represent a transformative shift in the energy landscape, offering a dynamic solution to the challenges of traditional centralized power systems. By decentralizing energy production and distribution, microgrids enhance reliability, resilience, and efficiency while paving the way for greater integration of renewable energy sources. This innovative technology holds immense potential to empower communities, businesses, and industries with more control over their energy supply, fostering sustainability and resilience in an ever-changing world. What's the point of a microgrid with wind/solar when nothing is being generated, there has to be an external source of power, which is the way the grid works now.

Cool story. I like the part where we just store all this energy in imaginary batteries. I also like the creative fact where we just ignore the price of energy as it goes up 100 fold or that there are no viable battery solutions that actually exist in the real world. Yay virtue signaling! Mining is great for the environment! I'm a great person for being concerned and using my creativity and imagination. DIVEST FROM FOSSIL FUELS!!!!!!!

The idea is great. But what about the price? I mean it needs battery to store the energy and then the energy can be used by cars, appliances at home. Before the battery dies out, the expense will be much less expensive than city electricity?
@huajie666liu8
@huajie666liu8 6 лет назад
But in China, especially on South China, more and more home are installing solar energy water heating devices on rooftop for providing hot water. But the solar panels on rooftops are less used according to my observation.
@paulfontaine7819

Electricity storage is a huge challenge for this model to work. Batteries are way to material intensive and expensive. Hydrogen or bio-based gasses, compressed air, pumped water are also tried. It wil take quite some time for a sustainable and affordable solution. Reducing energy consumption is equally important.

I think it’s a terrific idea, and it has been tried here in Toronto, but Toronto Hydro, a monster of a corporation that makes billions of dollars and constantly increased their prices, while their CEOs make millions for doing nothing, dominate the entire market and crush anyone who tries to start up a green energy grid anywhere in the city.Correct me if I’m wrong, because I have no proof of this, I’ve only heard of it from a reliable source, but Toronto Hydro donated a.k.a. purchased half the town Council in City Hall, so every single energy project not involving them is taxed so heavily that nobody even bothers trying, it’s corruption at its worst and it makes me sick! A friend of mine bought a small home in one of the older parts of downtown, and wanted to retrofit the home with solar panels and a wind generator. Just for the solar panels alone, it was $35,000, the wind generator was an additional $15,000, and the license to have one is a staggering amount of money, somewhere in the neighbourhood of three to $4000! People look at Toronto as a modern city, and while that may be sold in some regards, we are so corrupt and backwards and many other regards. They are so slow to change anything, it takes literally a decade for any new project or idea to get off the ground if it does at all. All the people that were bribed argue everything to death, so nothing ever gets accomplished. I say again, I have no proof of this, and I can’t say with any amount of certainty if it’s correct, but it would not surprise me in the least if it was true, I city Council is a pathetic antiquated useless group that do nothing but argue amongst them selves like five-year-old children, at the expense of the taxpayers. That’s the results are entire infrastructure is crumbling and desperately needs upgrading as the city grows by 110,000 citizens each year, and we’re already almost at the 7 million people Mark, I’m afraid to see what’s going to happen in the future here, I just hope this isn’t indicative of other major north American cities!
