I'm currently working on two separate builds. One is a 22PPC and the other is a 22ARC. I have built hundreds of AR platforms over the years. I reload my own ammunition so both of these calibers seemed intriguing. No I don't plan on shooting light projectiles. Both will have a custom throat to allow for the longer heavier for caliber projectiles. My shtf rifle is a 16 inch 556 with a crimson trace light, SPARC 2 red dot, and back up sights. For longer range work I have some other toys that will put down any man sized target down at more than a mile (if you can make a good wind call and everything is done right). I can say that working for US ARMS CO has made it possible for me to shoot a ton of different platforms and I have to say that most AR platforms, to include the more value priced rifles, can perform well enough to keep you alive. I'm not a big fan of fully ambidextrous controls on an AR platform. For me it puts more breakable and harder to replace parts on the platform. I have trained enough that standard controls work fine for me. I love you guys sharing your builds and your thoughts. See you guys.
I have built many ARs, usually with 80 receivers, because I have a mill and I enjoy using it. I do not do ambi controls, because in a shf situation, If I pick up an AR15, everything is where it needs to be without any confusion or mistakes. The only thing I add to ALL of mine is a B.A.D. Lever and a longer lever on the left side of the charging handle.

I've never bought an assembled AR either xD. Always stripped lowers and I think I only have 2 pre-assembled uppers, a sig 516 11" and 18" 6.5 grendel. I remember PSA use to do sales where it was like, $25 for a stripped receiver if you bought 3 or more, or sometimes they'd throw in 2-3 stripped receivers with random products over a certain price.
As a left handed shooter I wish the companies that made left hand ejection rifles had full ambi lowers. I know I can take a Stag Arms upper and put it on a ADM or LMT lower but not for .308.

I’ve always said the lower is just the start and sure maybe high dollar lowers might be better but I’ve never had a problem with any lower other then what I put in them all the work and work is done on top
The way I've always seen it was if you torqued the barrel down yourself and installed the gas system to it, you built it. Ill agree that just marrying a complete lower to complete upper isnt really building lol
Kaya, do you have an adjustable gas block on your rifle since you pinned and welded your surefire war comp onto your barrel? I want to pin and weld a surefire war comp on an M4 clone but was concerned with how it would run without an adjustable gas block if I mounted a suppressor on the weapon. Thank you

I try not to cast shade on anyone’s setup, because I love firearms and the incredible amount of variety amongst them. That being said I have preferences and there are options that don’t make much sense to me. One that comes to mind are pinned and welded barrels. If you are going “permanently”make it 16” why keep using shorter and shorter barrels and longer and longer muzzle devices? All you’re doing is crippling your muzzle velocity…..
