That's very kind of you to say, always nice to read comments from those who have been with me for a long time, always nice to see your avatar among the comments.
Although I already have many years in photography, but listening to you is inevitable. A splendid video as always, very informative! Thank you. Truly looking forward to watch the 2nd part.
Hello Maarten, I just subscribed. Very appreciative of your guidance and perspective. So thank you! I'm looking to return to a full frame camera after about 10 years using smartphone cameras. I'm currently using the Pixel 6 Pro, however 10 years ago I was using a Pentax K-X DSLR. So where to go from here? Two friends use the Sony a7iii and I'm looking at the a7iv. However, if I'm honest, I'm not one for video. 99 per cent of my shooting is still and always has been. Any thoughts on a mirrorless that leans more towards still and is in the a7iv price range? Looking forward to learning more in your videos. Scherp, eh? Great word and looking forward to working on the style.
If you need full frame, consider the Nikon Z7II - but I do prefer the A7 IV. If you're willing to consider APS-C, Fujifilm makes some excellent cameras - consider the X-T4, an exceptionally capable camera. I understand your comment about video, and although I sometimes think that I don't know why model A or B even includes it, no manufacturer seems willing to release a camera without it.
It's the most important camera feature. Some manufacturers were very smart and added a phone to their cameras, so that you would never leave it at home.
Thanks for sharing information... enjoy your comments as I use a DSLR .....I am only a hobbyist & just enjoy taking pics of whatever interests me when I am out & about...I upgraded to a s/h Nikon camera as I already had glass to use....my camera is a D500 & love the results... cheers 😀
Great content as always! I'm so glad to have found this video while I'm just starting to get into photography. Gonna get my first camera tomorrow: a used Fuji XE3. Your videos really helped a lot in me deciding to finally get it! P.S Just a heads up, you forgot to include the timestamp for JPEGs!
Hey Maarten, have you considered doing a video on buying used camera's and related products? buying used is a nice way to get your hands on higher tiered products, is good for the environment etc :)
When I was a kid, if you’d said to me that I would have to take my bicycle to the shop to upgrade its software, I’d have looked back at you with a vacant stare. If you had also said to me that my Olympus OM1 would "grow” to have a micro four thirds sensor, shoot RAW and JPEG simultaneously and theoretically shoot an infinite number of frames with no film I’d have been equally slack jawed. Many of today’s “basics” would’ve been incomprehensible only a limited number of years ago. I suspect what photographers are saying will only continue to evolve. Thanks.
That is very true. Much of what we accept today would have been science fiction in the previous millennium. The best - Kodak would no longer be a company that made film or cameras.
Well, I had Canon F1s, an A1, various Minoltas and ended up with Sony (due to all of the glass I had left). I parted ways with my A850 DSLR after I acquired an A6000, simply because the A6000 did everything I wanted, just smaller, lighter and faster than the full frame did. I have a few Sonys now of various types, and the only things I really need to remember, in case of emergency, is the film speed/ISO, aperture and shutter speed triangle along with sunny 16. With the plethora of terminologies and techniques resulting from brute force computing, miniaturization and high tech gizmos, I find myself shooting with the fullest auto node or straight manual. I can't remember any of the programable memory settings or custom buttons. LOL
What an interesting video!👌👍 I use full frame ziess , canon and voigtlander lenses on my Fuji camera bodies and is there a difference to the quality of the image when using these same lenses from full frame to apsc cameras? Is there a loss of resolution and image fedelity ??
There are better deals on supertelephoto lenses for DSLR than mirrorless cameras Second reason is professionally won't switch soon so it's still lingering other than these DSLRs should be soon in museum.
While there may be some validity to your first comment, when a lens is a "deal", that usually comes with a compromise in quality. And while you may now be convinced that a mirrorless camera is best for you, please leave it to others to make their own decisions based on their preferences. The need to have everyone agree with your preference is unflattering.
You don't need a weather sealed camera. Just don't let the camera get soaked. Use an umbrella or a plastic bag to protect it. And neither of these has any decent weather sealing.
Current: Mirrorless or DSLR ? Future: Shutterless or Mirrorless or DSLR ? Sony A1 stacked sensor show that no rolling shutter issue of electronic shutter due to fast read out speed. Future camera may drop mechanical shutter.
A phrase like depth of field can confuse a newby. What field? "Stop down" is another. If someone is fuzzy on your terminology, your next sentence will not land properly. Good luck explaining the circle of confusion to somebody.
