What are Power BI data connectors and why should you care?

You need a connector to work with data in Power Query for Power BI or Excel. But what is a connector? Adam explains what these are and how to find out what's available.

Thanks for the great information!!! How to remove a data source? Example excel table table but maintain several sql data sources. Thanks in advance… using RS desktop and RS portal posting with automatic updates.

Nice video, Adam! My APIs are deployed in Azure App Service and I am having some trouble connecting to them with Power BI Service. I've done it easily using Power Query on my Power Bi Desktop, but inside Power BI Service I can't! They keep throwing me credentials problems, because I need OAuth to make a request inside my API. Also, I can't refresh the queries, it's very frustrating. Can you give me some thoughts to make this connection to my APIs better? Is there a better way to connect to them? Thanks! Love your videos!

Hi Guy in a cube. I am Ismawanto from Indonesia, currently I develop work schedule dashboard for my company using PBI and I using custom visual calendar by MAQ software, unfortunetly our PBI server does not support with custom visual. Would you please make a video tutorial how to create calendar visual using standard visual on PBI? Really appreciate your help.

Hi Guy in a Cube, Have a question, how to show time stamps to user in his/her time zone based on his/her location? If user is in PST Timezone, he should see datetime column in converted to his Timezone. Any lead is much appreciated. Thanks for the great content.

Can you connect to or more power bi models? I’ve got to build a model for my company: 5 departments, leads, sales, pipe control… the works! I’ve developed independent pbx files, but now I’m mixing all data sources in one. Or is there another way?

You can create a composite model using Direct Query. It's a preview feature you have to enable first. But it won't let you import the data. If you want to import data from multiple existing Power BI datasets you can use the XMLA endpoint to connect as if it were an analysis services database.

Scheduled refresh is slow when compare to manual refresh You guys know anyother way to do automatically using other apps Like power shell or python

Someone sent me data in excel file,which i saved as a copy and used that as a source of my powerbi report,and sent it to him,now can he update data directly into his excel or does he have to change data source, (i haven't altered the excel data).

Thank Adam. I would like to explain my case. 1. My Computer - Install Power BI Desktop - Install Power BI Gateway 2. Server Side (on another computer) - Install SQL Server Database My computer connect to SQL Server by Window Authentication. Issue: When I publish the report to Power BI Service, the gateway could not connect to SQL Server. Could you share any solution with me? Thank in advance
