As part of TSN Hockey's ongoing 'Goalie Week,' we dive deeper into the history of goalie masks. What are the best goalie masks of all-time? What are the worst? That and more on 7-Eleven That's Hockey!
As an Oiler fan I have to say the Kidd/Tabaracci era had some of the sharpest Flames masks I have ever seen. Shout out to Roman Turek and Iron Maiden's Eddie.
ARTURS IRBE!!!....It wasn't just the Jofa Bucket...It was the re-upholstered pads. The "used to be White but now they are grey and black from puck marks" look has got to be the most Badass look ever. When I see a goalie wearing that you KNOW he has seen a LOT of shots.
awesome feature! as an artist, growing up, the fact that goalies could paint their masks with whatever they liked drew me into hockey. So unique, so cool. Hockey rules.
When I played in High school we had a Native American mascot so I always wanted Jeff Hackett’s head dress mask with my school colors orange and black. Hackett’s Blackhawks mask was perfect.
Tukka's mask towards the end with the Bruins....Roy's 1993 mask....Belfour's Chicago mask....Hayward's very first Sharks mask.....Phillies logo mask....and of course.....Gratton's lion mask....so many more
What are we even talking about. Vanbiesbrouck's Florida mask. Ed Belfour's Eagle. Richter's Statue of Liberty. Gratton's Tiger. Valiquette's Spider Man.
The OG Cheevers and homage from Shields are beautiful. Ears included. Of course, the Potvin one is iconic, I grew up watching him play. Sometimes I forget Biron is younger than the goalies I watched as a kid because we're exactly the same age. Hard to reconcile some of the players you watched play are your age or younger, though I look much better than Martin at the same age ;)
Not a single mask cage combo is either intimidating nor scary due to the fact that you can see their faces. Bernie Parent, Pelle Lindbergh, Murray Bannerman, Grant Fuhr, and anyone wearing a true goalie mask where only the eyes were seen was much more intimidating.
Didn't Luit just have the unpainted white mask? I recall seeing Luit as a Whaler. His Blues days predates me. He and Dryden seem to come from the same school of technique. Can't tel them apart.
@@MisterMister5893 The mask we're referring to is the old-school mask that sticks to your face. Liut's was plain white but it had a long narrow cheek and chin design. Check it out online. Very cool-looking mask.
Mason Nashville...Iron Maiden's Eddie Egyptian theme.....That should be in a Shrine. Most utilitarian? Hasek, Osgood, Cloutier, Prusek, Irbe.....The last of an era we will never see again.
