We caught up with data protection expert Jason Lee to ask him about the latest data protection trends he's seeing in the industry.
Jason touched on AI, but also focused on trainable classifiers in Microsoft Purview, which are machine learning algorithms that we can train to recognise specific types of sensitive content that can come in different formats (e.g. invoices or CVs) so we can recognise them. You can then use that to classify them, label them, and ensure they're protected appropriately.
Jason also talks about how pattern matching for sensitive information types can detect information in predictable formats, such as credit card numbers.
When asked about Microsoft Copilot and AI, Jason says "Microsoft Copilot can't help with data governance, but data governance can help with Microsoft Copilot". You'll get better responses from Microsoft Copilot and other generative AI tools if your data is accurate, up-to-date, and not duplicated, etc. Getting data governance right will help you get ready to use AI tools like Microsoft Copilot.
