Dude, i have wrestled 1988-2002.This coach is explaining good.I have wrestled greco-roman, free style, our folk style and oil wrestling. But this coach gives good information.

Great job of explaining the rules coach! Perfect job by your two wrestlers as well - it is very difficult for a couple of highly competitive wrestlers to slow down and be used for demonstration purposes but these young men humble themselves, work well together, and are doing a perfect job so props to them!

Nice description. Thanks, coach. I reffed a match last weekend with really young guys, and there was one that had that problem with the full nelson when he tried to switch halfs. And, of course, there were a ton of locked hands. The other problem with little kids is that their headgear can be so big that it is hard to not grab it.

I literally was throwing around guy and I only loss because idk when I was locking hands I also wear glasses so it’s kinda hard to see where my coach says I’m locking

I wish the refs would get consistent on reaction time with the body lock…more often than not they call locking hands the second they hit the mat …I never get reaction time

A huge part of the rule sets of most martial arts are almost completely arbitrary, but some of these just seem insanely convoluted.

They are basically just preventing 1) submissions, and 2) stalling.

@@Martial-Mat folk was "born" from catch, it is in essence catch without submissions. The emphasis of folk is about control rather than finishing a fight (via knock out or submission). As far as I understand it there was political infighting in the catch community about the use of certain submissions being too useful so they slowly all got banned till folk was made, but from that we got a new style of wrestling and lessons to be learned. The rules may be silly but the way they are organized is really useful at developing ground control

@@kaiceecrane3884 If it was just a way of drilling control, I'd appreciate, if as you suggest, it came as a result of bickering, then not so much. The idea of removing holds because they are TOO effective seems crazy to me. Things like taht are EXACTLY why I stopped participating in refereeed fighting. Fighting to gain a referee's approval (usually one not all that skilled) was making me a worse tactician.
