This is my top 10 cards of all time, whether it be sports cards, playing cards or non-sports related along with a couple of honorable mention "oddities". What cards are in your top 10 error cards of all time?
This is the one that I couldn't believe wasn't at least a special mention! I also have 2 of them! Theres also the 1990 football card of Brian Bosworth where the team name was different than all the others in the set? And I can't remember the players name at this moment, (edited 1-4-22 :Fred Marion was the players name) but there was a "dong card" in football too where it was actually the end of his belt flapping out in the picture...lmao
Loved the list of oddities. I’m a huge history buff when it comes to sports and sportscards. To learn of these oddities and what you can find was pretty cool.
Dude, ik this 2 years later, but awesome video. Not only are u wearing a hat i have, but your obvious love fir the Haimster, is endearing. Great video.
So I saw your interview with Philmington today. Great interview. The dude is super uptight, I told him it was classic straight guy and funny dude. Great job!
I collected sports cards in the late 80s and early 90s like many people my age. I haven't bought a sports card or pack in about 30 years. I do enjoy trading card games (Magic the Gathering, etc.), so RU-vid sometimes recommends sports card channels to me. Occasionally I'll click on one from time to time if it piques my interest. This time I'm glad I did. The subject is interesting, but more importantly I love the energy and enthusiasm of the presenter! That passion and charisma isn't something that can be taught.
I have 18 Ripken FF 9 2bb,2 sawcut, 2 white out,2 scribbles,2 punch out. 1bb PSA graded 8, 1 FF PSA 8 and a 10. The 1st day Fleer 89 made it to Nevada I bought 26 packs and pulled 17 And sold 1 for $100 !
I pulled a Frank Thomas NNOF from a mystery pack at my LCS in 91 or 92... The LCS owner was a big ERR collector and he occasionally put ERR cards in his mystery packs along with a copy of the corrected card... I traded it for an Eric Lindros RC (hockey). I was 12 and didn’t know what I had at the time...I’m 41 now and it still hurts lol.
Great Video Sir! I Love Errors/Variations. I have a comprehensive book that Dick Gillickson wrote. He was/is pioneer for errors/variations collecting. I too have a C3PO card. Great Card to have. Thanks for sharing your list! Stay Safe!
Thank you , really enjoyed your video , i have been a 'huge' collector for 50 years , however I really haven't place much stock into error cards , I can honestly say however that I have always looked for 2 of the cards on your list the Ripken and Thomas , anyone who collected throughout the early 90;s is certainly aware of those cards , Once again , AWESOME video , thank you
Fun video, collected these errors back in the day, Fleer and the others did some of these on purpose to drive up demand. There are many more (Keith Comstock White letters), also blank backs were in packs. The Thomas and Dale Murphy were big but nothing like the Billy Ripken. When that error hit the national news those packs tripled in price immediately. They went from 75 cents to $3 a pack at my LCS that day. Thanks, Tony
the Randy Johnson and the many many stages of 'corrected' versions is a great story on it's own. the full sign, super rare. then the green tint, red tint, green and red...finally black in varying stages. it was a beautiful mess.
Buddy, this was an outstanding video. Love the effort and attention to the details that you always take. I almost forgot about that 91 Candy Maldonado card with Cory Haim on it. I will always remember being in grade 6 and all of us going crazy trying to pull that 90 UD Ben McDonald error card with the Orioles logo on the front. Do you remember that one?
Definitely remember the Ben McDonald. That was a huge card in the early 90s back when he was a big name rookie. I think the excitement died down once his career didn't really pan out.
@@SilverJackify very true! Also, I need to get my hands on that Maldonado card now, you’ve inspired me to find it. I see the Toronto connection in it being that a Corey Haim was a a Toronto kid and Candy was on the 1992 Blue Jays World Series team.
Thanks for this video! I have, very lately, been wanting to see a video like this one you have made here. If anyone is reading this that wants to make an error card video pertaining to around 1960 to 1987, I would be very interested to see it. Great video. Thanks
Love the list I've got a ff error one of my favorites. Not on the list is another error card i have the 1990 ken Griffey jr no copyright on back i like the picture and the fact it's a second year card plus an error
I bought 4 boxes of ‘89 Fleer, and pulled about 4 of those FF Ripkens. Traded 1 for a Nintendo Super Mario Bros 2 video game. Totally worth it still today.
Great list! I remember buying the '95 Topps Traded Carlos Beltran RC (before the whole Astros cheating scandal) and wondering if I was tripping out because it was definitely not Beltran on the card. I ended up also buying the Juan Lebron from the same set since it's Beltran's picture on that card. I consider that pair as a single rookie card. I also got a kick out of the 1985 Donruss Seaver error card as well. My favorite is the Billy Ripken FF card.
I had a couple error cards from the 89 Score cards. I remember a guy grabbing himself in the background of the pitcher, Paul Gibson. I remember a couple others also that i found funny! Matt Williams was another!! :) I remember when UpperDeck came out, Jim Abbot was one of my favorites! and they looked so nice!!!! :)
Mike Mussina '91 Topps "Blank Back" RC, is my personal favorite. I pulled it from a pack at a card show that I went to with my Dad. It holds a special spot for me, and will never let it go! Love ya Pops!!
The 1990 Donruss Juan Gonzalez rookie card reverse negative.....with the Ripken FF card, the scramble to correct it with black box, black scribble and the white out scribble made it iconic. The white scribble is more valuable than the FF card. The 1989 Fleer Randy Johnson with the Marlboro sign over his shoulder.......1981 Fleer Fernand Valenzuela instead of Fernando.
I actually pulled the 1990 Donruss John Smoltz error card with Tom Glavine's photo on it not long ago. I was pleasantly surprised, I should really get it graded as it was pack fresh. Great nostaglic video.
I opened up a pack of cards a got a Tom Glavine and Darryl Strawberry both with no face but their stats on back. Almost threw it away thinking that the company made a bad mistake.
It is a tough card. Provably less than 1% printed had the reversed negative. There are other errors in that set that aren't as hard to get at a decent price.
I probably have all the early 90's error cards Donruss was famous for. I know I have the Juan Gonzalez, Nolan Ryan 5k strikeout and Diamond King. Along with the Randy Fleer Marlboro sign
Also the 1974 san diago/ Washington mix up could have gotten an honorable mention as well. Mmy favorite error cards aside from Rick face lol would be from the 50s and 60s. Too many to name but there definitely awesome and im happy someone finally payed homage to them
Thanks for doing this video , i never knew about the jordan and the num. 12 jersey but i remembered that i had bought 5 or 6 packs of those back around that time and had noticed a few months ago that i had Sam Vincent in there , so i got them out and looked and , bingo , sure enough i have it and in mint condition ! I'll have to check and see if theres any decent money interest in that card ! thanks Again !
My favorite errors/variations are the 1974 Topps Washington Nationals cards. From what I recall, the San Diego Padres were considering a move, but it fell through after the Washington cards were printed and released. I collected the entire 660 card set and had several of the Wash Nat cards, but sold the entire set (with the errors) in 1992.
I'm happy you went with the Bill Ripken as #1. In my opinion, there's no other error card that has received so much attention over the years, has gone up in value, still getting more popular, but is also somewhat easily assessable to everyone and has a million different variations of the error. There's a website dedicated to what seems like an almost unlimited number of variations of this error card, variations you would never otherwise think would be out there. I was lucky enough to find a seller selling a lot that contained a PSA 10, 9, 8, 7 and a PSA 6 right before they went crazy is value. I sold the 6 and the 7, made my money back and the 10, 9 and 8 were free. Doesn't get much better than that. I did have some sellers remorse due to the fact I later thought about possibly having the first PSA "Rainbow" with one of every grade. I thought it would be too hard to find the PSA 1-5's as ironic as that is.
Other anomolies: 1964 Ray Sadecki. 1994 Topps Stadium Club Frank Thomas. 1972 Topps Billy Martin. 1966 AND 1967 Claude Raymond. Oh, and the extremely rare and expensive 1990 Fleer Jose Uribe LOLZ
Outstanding presentation! I have a USA Basketball card with Alonzo Mourning on one side and Steve Smith on the other. Any Idea of what it might be worth?
..great video, liked it a lot. i always think of the first time i noticed the 1951 bowman george kell and doing a double take. another one is the 55 bowman mantle with an incorrect birthday. i don’t believe corrected versions exist so i don’t think they qualify as errors. fun video, keep it up.
I bought a pack of topps baseball in 2006 and i got that blank Alex Gordon and thought to myself as a 10 year old… Hmm what a strange looking card. So i put it in plastic and a top loader and still have it to this day lol. Never realized it was an error! Thanks for the info
Nice video! It may already be mentioned in the comments, but as a football guy, I would add: 1989 William Perry Pro Set card 48 (pulled early in production, it was the "holy grail card" for me as a kid, and was valued in Becket at $90 at one point...much less now), 1990 Fred Marrion "Belt card" (hilarious card, honestly), and for vintage, Brian Piccolo (known from the movie "Brian's Song") had topps misspell his name on his one and only card not once, but twice with "Bryon" on the front and "Bryan" on the back.
lots of error cards to choose from but my personal favorite (and one where the corrected version actually ended up worth more than the error) because he was my favorite player was the 1985 Donruss Tom Seaver card that was actually a picture of Floyd Bannister (Tom was a righty and closing out a HOF career, Bannister was a solid lefty).....The Leaf card and the corrected card eventually had Tom on them.
I have the Gary Sheffield SS Upside down card. My Uncle had 4 Cal Ripken FF cards (we sold cards when I was little) then he felt it was distasteful and never put them back out into circulation. He may have at some point but that was back in the 90's
I remember having a 1990 Donruss Error with John Smoltz n Tom Glavine's picture on each others card. And had a nice '85 or '86 Donruss Terry Pendleton Rookie that said Jeff Pendleton that was worth like $15-$20 bucks which was Great for that era
Fun video! Back in the ‘70’s error cards were a big deal too. That was before the focus was on rookie cards. The 1979 Bump Wills Blue Jays card was a big deal. I was thinking the ‘69 Mantle was a variation. Is the ‘69 Aurelio Rodriguez an error because it was never corrected? 🤷
I looked into the Rodriguez card after you mentioned it and I would list that as an oddity and not an error. If I ever do a part 2 of this then that would definitely be in here. That is crazy!
I watched a video on the mark jackson card a while ago, and thank god I did, because I was flipping through some of my uncles old cards and found it. Had I not watched that video, the card would have never caught my eye.
Great video, I picked some of these up raw after watching it. I bought the 1989 Topps Traded Ken Griffey Jr PSA 10 at $30 based on your video suggestion year before last. Would you consider doing another under valued card video with buying suggestions?
Claude Raymond, in 1966 and 1967, had Topps cards with his fly open--and the 1969 Aurelio Rodriguez card has the picture of the Angels' batboy instead of Aurelio!
