I upgraded my Super Meteor rears with YSS. Completely different bike. Just remember they soften up after a 1000km's or so. May need slight readjustment.

That often happens after a few miles as things bed in.

Brilliant can't wait to hear results after fitting this shock...I think a popular shock besides the YSS is the Hagon but that wouldn't suit your problem of Pre load adjustment for that you would need a shock with a remote pre load adjuster that fits on a bracket on the rear footrest bracket then adjusting is very easy but ive not seen any Himalayan with a remote adjuster fitted? Its like you say Ian with the bike being built to a price most people won't want to spend on a premium shock and it makes sense. My 2023 bike rear shock is set to max height and still working well after 7500 miles off 70% road 30% green lanes and i check it often as expect it to pack up anytime. Great Vid as usual (its the little stories that count lol)

At 140 lbs the OE shock was too firm and harsh for me. Fitted the YSS shock with a softer 75 NM spring and the bike is transformed. No more harsh jolts to the spine. Also installed 7 wt. fork fluid and the suspension is now in balance front to rear and bike is now a joy to ride. Suspension is now compliant but not mushy or too soft. BTW this is a Scram 411.

Good to hear. Looking forward to taking my Himmie out for a test ride. Just need to set the sag first.

YSS rear is a mandatory and relatively cheap upgrade to any 411. The stock rear shock does not offer enough preload for real luggage. when fitting a YSS, make sure you put some loctite or smth on your HEIGHT ADJUSTEMENT nut n thread, it has been known to come loose.

@@iantoy7778 dont forget to re-align your rear wheel real nice front to back sprockets after mounting that shock, and twist the compression dampening to 0 clicks, bounce it a couple times, up it to 15, bounce it a couple times, take it for a test ride and set the preload to you geared up and your usual luggage situation, even if its a bit stiff without luggage, that s still better than too soft whenever you DO carry e.g. groceries and end up bottoming out all of a sudden or have a short- term passenger once a month

I am looking forward to the new shock installation Ian as well as whatever you have tucked up your sleeve. I will about do somersault's if you find another bullet. I pretty much just ride the Himalayan without much in the add on department but I am always intrigued at what your up too? How on earth do you wind down at night? Shazam!

you can easily adjust sag ( access the adjuster nut ) with the airbox on . but you will have to lower the rear mud guard (plastic panel ) .

Yes you are right. I have made a video on setting the sag this morning. It still needs editing but should be going live on Thursday

You don't have to strip airbox out or touch throttle body, it drops down enough after removing undertray..fiddly but can be done. Hagon do a shock as well.... the weight of the YSS to standard shock is a fair bit different

How did you get the top shock bolt out as it won't clear the battery box ?

@iantoy7778 I helped my mate with his. Wheel off swingarm off... gives that a good chance to get regreased...undertray off side panels off air box undone and battery box if I remember. We could gain enough access to get a socket on...needs 2 of you though, but it went well. I'm getting one for my himi soon. He's just done 3k miles on his around France and said it was superb. I think the preloaded can just be got to as well
