It's more accurate to say that was the only time he COULD truly be himself, since everything preceding this had to follow a rigid set of scripted phrases. When there would be no more scripts, Steve finally had the ability to be both versions of himself at once.

That part hit me really hard. I started college this past year and was worried I wouldn’t really meet anyone because I’m not very outgoing. Thankfully, I’m in marching band and had an opportunity to meet some amazing people, so I did make some great new friends. Unfortunately, the first person I started to bond with and thought that I would actually be good friends with was in an accident the night before a performance. When we heard the news the next day I was absolutely devastated. This video reminded me of him, and while it makes me sad, it lets me reflect on how lucky I was to know him.

Same. The community center I work at had 2 receptionists who were very sweet, very intelligent, and they made me feel better about my self when I was down. I usually don’t like making friends at workplaces if only because of connections with the workplaces exist. Specifically, I work for my hometown’s local govt. It’s a city govt job, it’s more shite than your typical local govt, over 80% of the employees are miserable, incompetent, or both. I still don’t like that certain employees (dept heads, city officials, etc.) know who I am as that guy whose parents are city employees. But it was through working there that I discovered it wasn’t all bad. The 2 receptionists gave me a little bit of hope that things will get better. And then, within a month of each other, they moved on with their lives by quitting their jobs at the center. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for them, wish the best and all, and hope they have a good life. But I miss them and miss having them there because they made me laugh in my dark times. Things change. That doesn’t always mean they will be better, but things do change.

It's somewhat fitting though depending on your age when you started watching it because by 2002, the original audience was starting to get older. It felt the same way for most kids that watched the original Power Rangers cast end up slowly breaking apart and being replaced over time.

Similar to Stephen Hillenburg leaving Spongebob after the first movie. Spongebob's considered slapstick/physical humor: Laughs came from characters getting hurt. But many iconic jokes are in the show and nobody was injured. After he left, people forgot about that: Instead of slapstick, characters are just getting hurt in stupid ways, but it's not funny anymore. It's isn't the same without you, Stephen (1961-2018).

That year just wasn’t nice. I lost Steve and then the family cat. My childhood was gone and I was sent into a spiraling torrent of pain and misery. HOW COULD YOU LEAVE STEVE

I didn't really believe he wasn't coming back, only hit home on the first episode of the next season, but once I realized that he really wasn't coming back the experience was pretty similar to how you described it.

My therapist actual brought up parasocial relationships to me, because I grow that type of attachment easily with youtubers & celebrities(or the characters they play) that I relate to in one way or another. If someone let's it get out of hand, that's when you get creepy obsessed people, who take it to far (stalking, finding phone numbers, ect.) But for people who don't let it get out of hand, it's a way that gives comfort or a sense of friendship. This happens most frequently with people who feel lonely, weither it's because they were emotionally neglected, or they never felt like they could find people who they related too, ect. That is typically the reason why people get so attached to people they follow on the internet, or watch on TV. Again, it's dangerous if it gets out of hand, but for most, it's a sense of comfort. Especially in this day and age where many people feel isolated (not just cause covid). Sorry for the long reply, just wanted to get my thought out there.

(I know you already fixed the grammar some, but there’s an part missing from a sentence structured with the leading of ‘The fact’ follow directly by ‘that the theory’, as it leads to a connection to the actor dying (not being your opinion on it). I literally broke my brain trying to explain why it doesn’t make sense, but from my perspective I see two rephrasing possibilities: ‘The fact that there was a theory that the Actor who played Steve died, is just awful.’ or, ‘The fact that the theory was that the Actor who played Steve, died, is just awful’. I suppose you could keep the past tense of was in the second half, if you want to to make the existence of the theory present tensed, but personally I feel more inclined to the first possibility. Where it was placed, ‘was just awful.’, could, and was considered correct because of the inconsistency of the dependent clause the sentence began with, however after reconstruction, unless you wanted to allude to it that you don’t feel it is awful anymore or is not causing effects at this time, you should adjust it. I don’t know if that made any sense cause English is wack, but the options I gave you work anyway. Edit: Cause my sleep deprived brain had to pause to try and remember English a few times and the send button was right next to where I needed to press to start typing at the end of the reply. I grew up with the show mostly with Joe because when Steve left the show, I was a baby (since I was around 1 at the time and of course I didn’t watch Blues Clues until I was around 4 or 5) and Joe mostly was the host when I had the time with the show so I can relate with your sister

I was born in 2002, the year Steve left, but I watched all the episodes of Steve as reruns. When I first saw the episode where he left, I was devastated. But I got a mix of Joe and Steve episodes as a child, whatever they aired that day was what I watched. Yet somehow, every episode without Steve was just heartbreaking. You could feel the shift, it wasn't the same. I almost burst out into tears watching this too many times.

Born 2004 and I didn't even know Joe existed until a year ago and then I got a bit sad because Steve being the main character in Blues clues is what I grew up with but he left before I was even born.

Same i thought he was my only friend and I didnt know there were episodes where he left bcoz of him I thought I dont need any friends I also send a letter to him in a nearby post office DO U WANNA BE MY BEST FRIEND? But sadly now I realized that it was a old mail box

Decided i'd reply to 1 comment, and yours resonated to me. :o I too didn't have many friends when i was.. 5 or 6, and I had the Handy Dandy notebook, and a stuffed animal of blue. Steve was a better friend then most friends will ever be now.. I never watched the episode Steve left on, because i was at the age where I wandered to other shows, and occasionally my mother would yell, "oh hey it's your favorite show!" and we'd all watch.. then Steve was gone on one of those.. random episode encounters.. and we forever stopped watching.. We never knew why he left, and I'm glad it was on his terms, and not various other reasons. by now, age 26, I realize my love for drawing probably started with Blues Clues, however minor it was. Now.. I've lost my imagination.. :/ oh well.. I'm glad I stumbled on to this video, kinda adds Closure to what happened to Steve.

@@qwaszxcvbnm7 it's ridiculous how qe are finding each other and being connected because of a kids show. I too used to wander to other shows, ofc the only (2) difference is that the shows I used to watch (including blue's clues) was saved on a laptop that we would just connect to our tv, and that I was younger than 5 back when I watched the show. I have a terrible memory so my memories of that show was very vague, so I can't really remember if I did watched the episode where steve left, but even if memory was vague, I can clearly recall steve, blue (which I still thought a boy until this video) and the theme of the show, which is doing detective work (as I like to call it back then) and finding clues scattered around the house and fit the puzzle pieces to make something very cool, like a experiment I would be lying if I said that my drawing skills didn't came from the show, but that isn't really what I got from the show. What I TRULY got from the show was my love for mystery solving. I've always loved gravity falls' idea of a boy trying to solve the mysterious things that's happening of the said place, and I've also fallen into the ARG (short for Alternate Reality Game) rabbit hole. But there's something that's going I to my mind, what's the reason? Why do I love these things? Ofc I know the reason that I've been connected into this genre since childhood, like the mecha genre, but from where exactly? I mean, I already know where I got my love from mecha, it's because my country just loves voltes v and I've fallen into that bandwagon, but I don't really know exactly why I've also fallen in love with the mystery genre. But after watching this video, that madee recall that it was blue's clues which is the reason why I love the mystery genre. It's because of how steve finds the clues that blue's leaves throughout the place, and that makes me feel even more connected to the show. Damn I miss those plain simple days where everything was just normal, no covid, and we were all still careless about our surroundings, only us and our little fantasies...
