I found the topic interesting and the reasoning behind your decisions for using the camera and lenses you do. I liked the fact that it was aimed at those with a genuine interest in the practical applications and not the brand or brands themselves .

Great channel! I use a Canon eos M + 22mm pancake lens. I bought it specifically for street photography years ago, it is still going strong, discrete, no bigger than my iPhone. Recently I scored 2 more small Cameras the Canon M10 & M3, the purchase added 2 more lenses. Both new sitting in someones cupboard, paid $100 & $150 AUD, unbelievable win!

I have 2 Sony a7R4 bodies that I use professionally but I also use 1 for street with my 35mm f/1.8 lens, or when traveling I use my 24-105 f/4 lens. I know it’s not an ideal street setup, but I’m fairly stealthy with it, & if I can’t get as close as I want I can crop the hell out of this 61mp sensor (tho I understand the limits to this). Great video, I’m learning a lot from your others as well.

Glad to see your thoughts on cameras, Brian. I'm using the Fuji X-T3, 18-55 and a Prime F2 along with a Zoom 55-200. The Fuji 35mm F2 lens seems to be fine for Street Photography. I generally use a GX85 or EM1.2 with a 25mm, 42.5mm, or Leica 12-60mm all mostly in black and white. That's MFT with an equivalent of 50mm, 85mm, and 24-120mm when talking full frame. I've used Fuji in the past with some of the better Fuji lenses/adapted vintage, and for a lot of the time I loved it, but for certain colors I almost always had a lot of color clipping I had to take the time to correct in post. If I'm being honest, there's only three cameras I have that I barely edit at all: my Pentax Q's (Q, Q10, Q7, and QS-1...I'm a fanboy collector of the tiny lineup), Pentax MX-1 (a compact camera version of the Q7 with a fixed pretty damn good lens), and a Canon S95 compact I quite like using that has a CCD censor. Most of the time I'm content with the MX-1, it's old, outdated, and slow, but it gets the job done and I have fun using it.

The best camera for street - very brave to tackle that topic, Brian! Lots of entrenched opinions abound on that topic :) I love the little XF10, as you do, for the quality it produces and it's sheer fun factor and I've just bought a Yashica 35 ME rangefinder style film camera (£25 on ebay!) that I'll be playing with in London soon, shooting Tri-X. I know some people use one camera exclusively (I admire their self-discipline), but I've always found that the shooting experience is different with each camera. It's a bit like a piece of beef - there are dozens of ways to prepare and serve it and each one gives a different gustatory experience. I kind of want the same with my photography! Each camera offers you a very different "taste", so to speak and I for one don't want to "eat" the same dish every day of my life. Hopefully that food analogy will make sense :)
@StreetSnappers

Haha, thanks Amin - yes, always some entrenched opinions and it's an emotive topic! That 35ME is a great camera and I think £25 was a good price. I look the food analogy - might nick that!!

I use ricoh GR 1st gen and olympus penF for longer lens, because they are produced identical BW renderings especially th3 high contrast BW on GR and grainy film 1 or mono 2 on penF, and i believe penF can mimics the GR positive film efect with the creative dials. @@StreetSnappers The snap function is fantastic! I set mine to 2m/f8/1/320th sec/and ISO to auto. On bright sunny days, ISO will be at 100, rising to 200 or 400 on darker days, and at 1600 in dimming light. These settings ensure that anything shot at any distance from around 5 feet away from you will be sharply in focus. All of the ISO settings produce good quality images, especially in b&w. It enables you to take shots very quickly and without blur. Absolutely ideal for candid street shooting.

Much appreciated video. Thanks for sharing. However for the sake of simplicity I am keeping just the Fujifilm X-T30 for all situations with few budget manual prime lenses and it works great. More cameras means more effort to maintain them and keep them safe from fungus etc. One camera and few essential lenses makes Life so much simpler and easier. That's the way I prefer. So when I decided to shift to Fujifilm mirrorless system, I first had to sell out all my previous Nikon DSLR kit so that I have to care for only one set of system. And my life has become very simple again. May be one more budget Fuji mirrorless body like the XT-200 sometime in future to have as a back up. But that's all. You really don't need expansive gear to do good photography.

Travels, shopping, documentary and street photography all could be done with X-Pro and single lens. Here is no big need for four cameras and four lenses. Rather than particular brand sales pitch :) Because street photography never ends, including going shopping and especially on travel. Tossing cameras is pockets is gross and camera should go into the bag only then you can't use it. You can't use it during the meeting, but on commute to this meeting.

I do freelance photography for a newspaper and magazine, and I'm interested in street photography, travel photography, and product photography -- really a little bit of everything short of anything that needs a massive lens. Excellent video as usual! Quick question: I am a fellow Fuji user also. Do you use the film simulations, or do you edit your own way? I shoot RAW, and while I tend to edit a certain way and stay fairly consistent, I agonize over trying to stay so. What do you do?
@StreetSnappers
@StreetSnappers 3 года назад
Thanks John! I think the film sims are great but I rarely use them as a prefer a ‘true’ look - so I always shoot in RAW. If I’m shooting a project in B&W I’ll probably use Acros (red) but that’s about it. The sims are fun to experiment with sometimes, and I’ll usually shoot a JPEG alongside the RAW, but I then usually ditch it.

@@StreetSnappers thank you for the reply. My biggest issue is worrying about color and being consistent as I will stress for a large part of the day in the matter. Be interested to know why you're not a big fan of M43. For me the small size of body and lens is great. But perhaps the frame size is not big enough for your needs? Looking forward to your video on street photography books. I've recently purchased a couple (including one of yours) and I wonder why it's taken me so long to do so!
@StreetSnappers
@StreetSnappers 3 года назад
Thanks for your comment :-) . I'm not 'against' M43 as such - it's just not for me as I find the small sensor limiting when it comes to making very big prints. Maybe I just didn't have right camera (I've only ever used the Olympus Pen-F).

@@StreetSnappers I bought Fuji X100V as Lumix GF1 with 20mm/f1.7 upgrade (I have Lumix G80 which is great, I just not enjoy carrying DSLR-style body especially with two zoom lenses) and when I made some test shots I was surprised how good G80 and 20mm/f1.7 really is. Photos has slightly less details (16 vs 26mpix resolution), but they feel sharper with better micro contrast. Both are sharp enough to produce moire. IBIS allows to hold six or eight longer time, white balance seem more consistent and reliable in night city. Fuji can use maybe three times higher ISO with the same noise, but it's somewhat meaningless number, because photos from Fuji seem a bit underexposed and they may need more shadow recovery. X100V will be certainly better for social events, but today they are nonexistent :( I think nearly all cameras today are good, they are just not perfect and it's always possible to find something that different brand does better. I just think that M43 is underestimated and it struggles with finding target group - lately both Olympus and Panasonic were making bigger bodies and lenses to compete with APSC instead of making something like X100V and they are targeting their camera towards video and youtubers while failing to make competitive continuous autofocus.

The Trip is still a great camera, Chloe - though if you get another be wary of the fashionable 're-skinned' versions which are usually massively over-priced. @StreetSnappers
@StreetSnappers 3 года назад
Hi, it’s not that I wouldn’t consider them, I just prefer the rangefinder or compact style for street photography. This wasn’t a ‘right or wrong’ kind of video - it was about the gear I use for street photography. Nikon and Canon both make very fine cameras but I just find that styling doesn’t work for me on the streets. I did mention Olympus, Leica, Panasonic, Ricoh and Sony! But, as I always say, gear doesn’t matter too much in street photography and any camera is fine if it works for you.

@@StreetSnappers thank you for clarifying. The points you made in the video and your comment make sense and I appreciate. Thank you :) I shoot Nikon D7200 which is a lovely camera but I find it a bit bulky which is counterproductive! I’ve been looking at Z7 II but I’d only consider that camera depending on when Nikon releases the Nikkor 28mm compact S-line lens and if this lens is small, light & fast enough. Can I ask why you prefer rangefinder cameras? Just curious to know if rangefinder cameras offer features that are handy for street photography? I know some Fujifilm cameras give you focus distance in your EVF which is very handy for zone focusing.
@StreetSnappers
@StreetSnappers 3 года назад
The Z7 II is a great camera for sure. I prefer rangefinders because of the form factor and, for me, they're just quicker to use - and having the viewfinder on the left means that I can keep one on the scene and the other looking through the viewfinder; the set-up just feels more instinctive to me. It's nothing more scientific than that!
