This channel is soooo underrated. You've been doing this for four years, you deserve more subs. I'll be one to help.

00:08:41 Checks area is clear of potentially flammable objects. Is sat in front of heavy curtains. Made me chuckle! Lovely video. I can't normally sit through a whole RU-vid video, but I was here until the end on this one.

These things are too cool. It'd be interesting to have a shelf with a Plasma Ball, Lava Lamp and some other weird/alien looking decorations. You could wait till night, grab a snack and throw on a movie then have your wall of weird glowy things all turned on as to create a calming vibe within the area. Appreciate the video!

Great video! Just to clarify, the near field effect (electric field) is what is lighting the fluorescent tubes (i.e., not escaping electrons or far field radio waves), correct? I understand that if it is the result of near field effects, it would still result in ionization and electron movement, but my question is more in regards to the transmission of power.

Beware of an unintentional experiment I did. Touching the plasma ball when you also have your feet on an electronic foot circulation massager gives an unpleasant shock!

Do you have any info on plasma domes being affected by sound or producing any kind of sound? I would really like to talk to you about this if you are open to it.

Question: Why are the string of my plasma balls turning clockwise? They are moving synchronised, relatively rapidly.

Great video! Specifically, how does such a non conductive material as aluminum play such a key role in the electron transfer?
@cavok84
@cavok84 4 года назад
I might be missing your point, but aluminum is fairly electrically conductive for a metal.

Hi Paul... you said that if you touch the foil with your hand it will hurt... OK but when you touch via a skewer it did not... was the skewer not at the same potential all over? Why did it not hurt then?
@PhysicsHigh
@PhysicsHigh 4 года назад
Main reason is that my finger is round and dull and the skewer is pointy. This means that the skewer has a much stronger electric field. This means that charge leaks more, like stream, rather than all at once with my finger. This reduces the current flow and thus hurts less. On another note too is that what you feel is also the heat generated. Again much less with the skewer.
@saurabhmangal6322
@saurabhmangal6322 4 года назад
@@PhysicsHigh Thanks for the answer Paul.. still not sure how the skewer did not 'hurt' you, as the sparks were right there to see and you were touching them (through 'the metal stick') ... but will accept your answer as I don't believe I will test this.... "Like a stream..." who would've thought :).
@alexandranicholas6310

Could it be due to how the charge is disapated? As when you touch it with a finger the charge is released all at once on a small point vs with the skewer when you hold it the charge is disapated through your whole hand?
@juanfelipesantoyamartin5277
@juanfelipesantoyamartin5277 3 года назад
Actually, I think it is due to the frequency at which the electricity is flowing. At such frequency, you wouldn't feel an electric shock, but at such voltage, it can burn your finger. So, to sum it up, at very high frequencies, you don't feel the electricity flowing through you, but with enough voltage you will burn your finger. That's why it doesn't hurt when holding any metals, but it does (because it burns) when using your finger (and any part of your body for instance)
@louistournas120
@louistournas120 3 года назад
@@juanfelipesantoyamartin5277 The high voltage ionizes the air. You get a spark which is pretty hot. So, if you touch with your finger, you get a tiny spot that burns and blackens on your finger. I know bc I have tried it.

Experiment: Place a thick gauge wire coil on top of your electrified plasma globe and turn the globe into a transformer with usable electricity, especially if you Earth ground one side of your load.

What about the smell on your hands and fingers that a plasma ball leaves?
@PhysicsHigh

Found no smell at all

Something is wrong with your senses. Hold your fingers to it for a minute and then smell your finger tips. I smell this sent every time i use my ball. The tentacles on mine are not that wild like yours is.

It's probably ozone, when you touch the dome you will create a small spark to your finger, very small but enough energy to split a few O2 (oxygen) molecules into O1 (ozone) molecules due to coronal discharge. Similar effect happens with laser printers, the inner mechanism creates a strong charge on the paper so that the powder toner sticks to it which is why printed pages from a laser printer will have a similar smell.
@chadergeist

There is no "ouch" spark to my finger.
@alexandranicholas6310
@alexandranicholas6310 3 года назад
That is because it is a very small amount of current being passed. The voltage is still high enough to create a spark but there isn't enough current to penetrate the skin to trigger the nerves.

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dEjXgZHUcIY.html Obviously, Maxwell did not know anything about this law. What happens here, because the right rotates without the help of motor and without battery. Which physics formula fits here? Maxwell wusste offenkundig noch nichts darüber, über diese Gesetzmäßigkeit. Was passiert hier, denn der Rechte rotiert ohne Hilfe von Motor und ohne Batterie. Welche Physikformel passt hier?
