Actually you should still program it because they can accidentally transmit in the clear on occasion. There’s a video on here somewhere with a whistler ws1080 where someone recorded the secret service during a presidential visit and they got a few small neat bits of leaked audio. People used to do that all the time 10 years ago, monitoring encrypted channels all the time to catch any leaks.

+Matthew Cherry Currently, Uniden doesn't manufacture a digital model within this price range. I would recommend the Whistler WS1040 or WS1065 these cover digital phase-1 and are within the desired price range.

@@Bearcatwarehouse I totally understand thanks for your recommendation I wish Uniden wasn't so expensive but I'll have to look into buying a Whistler to use until I can get the money up to buy a even better one (Uniden).

@David Sims Texas DPS is listed with open channels, The BCD436HP is capable of monitoring them.

You can use something called a discriminator tap with analog scanners, but it is involved and somewhat complicated. There is absolutely no way to decrypt aes256 transmissions.

They're essentially the same but have minor differences. The 436 is made for America and Canada, and the 3600 is made for Europe. Slightly different preprogrammed freqencies.

+Goldsmith Photos I believe the Pro-51 covers up to 956MHz AM/FM, However it doesn't cover Digital or Narrowbanded (FMN) Frequencies. The Majority of Public safety agencies now use some form of Digital or FMN technology for broadcasting.

In radio reference, the chat rooms are called forums.. Everything there from receivers to fed forums, auto, and state by state forums... The state forum gets you immediate info, if anyone is scanning the region.

Yes , but an analog only scanner or a baofeng radio with an upgraded antenna would be better suited for the ISS

Could it be in need of firmware upgrade? What is the most up to date current firmware for uniden 436hp? Anyone know?

@VOLKZZORN this is the USA version designed for USA & CA band plans. I believe there is an EU version of this radio too.

@@Bearcatwarehouse ok would be really great because the digital eggs here in Germany no longer get the truth, so that would be an alternative to see what is happening behind our backs 😉

@FlyPrincedurr Police scanners are legal, however, you cannot use them in the commission of a crime. Some states restrict the use of a scanner in the vehicle.
