Hi Nick, I am glad you are Auburn are doing okay. Laurel and I are in Porto until March 5 and will be spending the rest of 2023 in SE Asia. We stumbled on 1 year tickets anywhere on Air Asia that they fly but you have to transit through BKK or DMK for most flights. We have talked to you for so long we would really like to meet you guys while we are in Asia. We are both over 70 now so not sure how much longer we can stay out here.
Hello from CA & many thanks 4 the run-down on Phuket condo prices! I did what your doing in my 20s up to my 50s and will try again after i get off the treadmill in schools. I showed up in Japan without a sponsor or TEFL in my 40s and was offered several jobs and took a job for a year teaching public speaking(no experience). Yes, they told me about wanting someone younger but when i told them about living in Bali, i got a job. You have to sell yourself and attempt to speak the language(i knew 50 words) I didn't like staying home so i went out everynight and was approached to teach English privately to housewives, students & execs. I picked Japan for food, safety & money and wish i had stayed longer because everything you say about the US is true plus you need $ to live well especially with children. I urge everyone to try it when you are younger as you might not have the energy to navigate travel/work in foreign countries. Not talking about corporate types. Public transportation in Japan is a dream! Beach life in Bali & Thailand is a haven 4 beach bums trapped in city bodies! Kuala Lumpur is an easier city for women in Asia. Thanks 4 the adventure

My daughter was going to school there. Children can get an ED visa for a year and that allows for 1 guardian visa as well. You could easily get an ED visa as well if you take classes. Anything from Muay Thai, to Thai language, to I think there are even programs for military self defense (in Chiang Mai) and maybe even cooking class visas. But look into the ED visa, very easy to get.

As a single parent myself, I am looking abroad mostly in China and South Korea for TEFL jobs with 6 months experience (I have a BA in Communication, TEFL certificate, but no teaching license); however, I have encountered some difficulty finding employers willing to sponsor me and my son. Do you have any advice for how to still go abroad and teach? Should I be looking at different countries? (I know a little Spanish and I can speak some Mandarin) Thank you so much for your help!
Hey! Good for you on your efforts! 💪 for South Korea, look into AdventureTeaching, I had an offer on Jeju Island from them at one time. I also had a friend who worked through them as well and he ended up doing 2 years, finding a Korean wife, and having a good time in Seoul. You’ll make the most money in places like the Middle East, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong. When I got my first teaching job in Hong Kong, I just showed up with a bunch of resumes and got like 20 interviews and multiple on-the-spot offers. There is a large need for English teachers in many places so arriving and doing the ground work is always a good way to go. While you could find jobs online through Search Associates or TIEonline, both good options, there are lots of schools that look for teachers in the area they operate. I’ve actually gone to look for schools for my daughter in other countries and had the principals ask me if I want a job at the school.
I dream of Thailand. It’s close to my main ops in PH 🇵🇭. There’s a whole world out there I never knew existed. Come back to the insane circus dystopia from hell someday soon I’ll be gone for good. The USA is GREAT for making money but everything else is nosediving like a missile.
Facebook marketplace is a good place to find rentals. Also join local real estate groups on FB for the same reason. Also can look around in person and find lots of ‘for rent’ signs, just give them a call.

Do you have a guide on how to mail the passport and how to send the money online. I live in nyc and mailing things is not good for me. Do I need to put anything else in the mail besides the application, and the passport.

Good question. And it really depends on the landlord. You often have to pay a deposit upfront and you would lose that deposit. It's typically equal to one month's rent. But, every landlord is different so some charge more (maybe equal to 2 months rent for deposit) and others charge nothing as deposit. For me, the place I'm staying at now (a simple bungalow for about $300/month, and it's not the place in this video) just lets me renew a monthly contract every month without a deposit, as long as I give them a week or two notice, and I can just keep it going on a rolling basis. It's pretty common for bungalows and simpler accommodations to offer that kind of situation.

I'm thinking a year. But we're looking for a place that has a good location for me as well as a good school and dance school for my daughter. So, once we find that place, I can make a better informed guess of how long we'll stay. If we can't find it? Hit the road again and keep searching
