What Can You Salvage From A Printer? 

I dismantle everything before I throw the carcass away. Loads of spare parts. :)

I have a printer down in the basement waiting to be taken apart and salvaged ever since I replaced it almost 3 years ago. I think it’s about time to see what’s inside.

I knew I wasn't crazy asking around for printers, coincidence has it I just took apart one yesterday, unfortunately the interior was a crime scene of ink, will you make a tutorial on those encoded motors?

Wow fascinating! Thanks so much! I actually am having trouble throughout the years, I buy 40 dollar printers like this, because it is the cheapest way to get a working scanner, and before I can use it 3 times it will have an error that I can't straighten out, so it goes into the spare parts pile, with the hopes that I can get it resolved, or find reason to part it, and well, this is way better than I thought. Though I wonder, can I control the scanner without the printer part working? I will keep looking but just wondered if you dealt with it. Also, HP is really bad about being propietary so I doubt the reuse of anything on there, is that truth or a misjudgement on my end? I do have a couple HP things but especially with PC, they are a nightmare.

any idea what the optical sensors voltages are? i dont want to ruin them trying to find out. i want to use them in an arduino project.

Please don't use that obnoxious "music" for time lapse in future videos. How would you interface to that wifi/bluetooth module. Its going to be a completely custom pinout with no data available online. Its not a standard miniPCIe interface so you couldn't use it in a laptop. Even if you could workout the pinout, you'd still need to write a driver for it - good luck with that. Its just not worth the effort when there are standard bluetooth/wifi modules available cheaply on ebay with documents, datasheets and Arduino libraries freely available for those modules. You could probably get the LCD working if you can identify the driver chip and connector pinout. It may be a custom micro controller. What would you use it for you could though?
