I was watching this and thinking, "This guy looks familiar." I looked him up and yeah, I've read some of his books, and he's a crackpot. His degree is in journalism and he's a publicist, not an archaeologist. He does his own digs without proper permissions from the Israeli government OR a real archaeologist as an overseer so all of his findings have to be thrown out. He tried to open his own museum for his findings in Talpiot but it closed due to lack of interest. He is the laughingstock of the Israeli archaeological community. Also: Herod ordering the death of male babies was not a real historical thing.

Hmmmm. Not loving this guy. I feel like he’s more interested in creating some type of media “persona” for himself than he is in teaching actual history. To me, the only smart person in this video is the guy who reminded him that a king from the first century AD shouldn’t be judged by the same standards as today. This guy is the Neil Breen of archaeology. Not quite as crazy as Breen, but definitely the same sort of confounding strangeness. The narrative has some logic, and shows genuine interest in history, but the presentation is rather uninteresting and mundane.
