I wore a Medtronic sensor for 2 years and I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. Medtronic has the least reliable sensors on the market, I’ve tried them all. After my trial experiences I really preferred the Dexcom g6. I’ve had it now for almost a year and I really love it, especially with how much my blood sugar changes in short periods of time(with or without food consumption). I remember when I was on the Medtronic sensor it could barely get within 100mg/dl and more often than not it would just stop functioning or tell me to calibrate again. In the almost year since I started using the Dexcom g6 I’ve only had to calibrate it once because my blood sugar had changed so quickly that it didn’t trust the readings. The freestyle libre was the most accurate cgm however I couldn’t stand the constant scanning of the sensor and I didn’t find the newest version to be as accurate. Here’s my ratings list. 5. Medtronic 4.eversence (although I didn’t try it I would still rate it higher than Medtronic) 3. Freestyle libre 3 2. Dexcom g7 and freestyle libre 2 1. Dexcom g6 (added bonus as stated it connects with multiple pumps for better diabetes management!)

I agree all have benefits and a cgm is a must have for diabetics. I also have used all of them and my favorite by far is Eversense E3 CGM. 180 days soon to be 365 comparing that to 10 days or 14 days not even close! Plus you can take it off at will with no cost or hassle and is the only 1 with an onbody alert - Yahoo!!!

Great content as usual. I've 50+ years of T1D experience - and as a scientist , technologist with close family members working in medical fields, I've been an early adopter of many diabetes technologies. I started using Dexcom G4 platinum CGM, but later switched to Medtronic (because I tested their pump) Medtronic was not that accurate, but it allowed to be worn (off label) way longer than the 6 days by just unplugging the transmitter and putting it back on without changing the sensor. I was also able to decode the radio signals (and calculate glucose values) on my own hardware, as I interested in making my own closed loop system. The newer medtronic pump proposed their own closed loop, but required newer sensors. They actually performed worse with me, and so did the closed loop system, so I quit medtronic and moved back to dexcom - now with the G6 and roche pump with dblg1 closed loop. I found a hack to directly obtain the glucose values on my own hardware/software without needing to send them to dexcom cloud first. Too bad this is not an officially supported and documented feature of CGM systems. It is after all our medical data: we should be able to access it with our own software without need to send it to dexcom cloud first. And yes, dexcom is not cheap...the transmitter needs to replaced every 3 months, just because the battery runs out. I've seen people opening the transmitter and replacing the coin cell. Sad dexcom prefers profit over reducing e-waste.

Are you in the USA like me currently? I've been with Medtronic for over 3 years now. I saw the Endocrinologist yesterday and he said my test results are superb! That was not always the case though. Anyway, I mentioned that I might want to switch to the Dexcom possibly with the Omnipod and he said the customer service with Omnipod is horrible. He said he even told the local rep that he was not inclined to send any of his patients to them as a result. Have you looked into the CGM sensor that is put inside your body for X period of time yet?

I used the libre 1 sensor for over a year due to cost, when my insurance started covering the dexcom I switched and I’m so happy I was able to. I always found the Libre inaccurate on the first day, and the last couple days I would sometimes have pain and irritation from the sensor. I never have issues with dexcom. I actually love that it’s 10 days and I only had one fall off when I first started using it. I’ll be switching from MDI to a tandem tslim x2 pump this year and I can’t wait to use it with the dexcom g6

Nice collaborations! I've been following Tom for a while! For me the 14 day cycle of the Libre is a huge advantage. Previous Libre's need for scanning was a pain in the neck, though. Accuracy was a problem too. But with the Libre3, all those problems are solved. My last blood work showed, at least for me, that it was actually more accurate than I even hoped it would be. My brother is a Dexcom fan, and I was wondering if I was going to switch too even with the shorter cycle, but now having used the Libre3 for months, I and definitely team Libre!

Hi. I was discovered with T1D about 30 years ago. Up until 10 yrs. ago was handling my diabetes manually. Checking a number of times a day, injecting both rapid and long term insulin, the whole works. I was able to keep it under control. Once my doctor recomended to change to a pump and a cgm my life became easier. I started straight off with the Insulet Pod which I think is a great little device without problems. The main problem for me was finding a cgm that I could depend on, and wouldn't stick out from my skin too much. Then I worked as a heavy machinery mechanic. The MAJOR problem with the libre that I had was the lack of acurrracy. More than once I had hypo on the job because of the innacuracy and maybe the absense of audio alarms. My experience with the Eversense as far as everyday usage is very good. Twice a day it needs calibation (prick and stick) and once a day the transmitter has to be re-charged. The accuracy is incredible. Constant deviation of 0-6 mg/dl with a good alarm system for hi and lo. The downside of this system is the insertion and extraction of the sensor. Not all Diabetes personel now how (dont want ) to do a mini operation . Its not difficult, only about 40 minutes for insertion. However, the sensor moves undeer the skin and can be very difficult to remove. This can be quite unconfortable for a number of days after the procedure. Because this is real surgery, you are left with 5 mm long scars going up both arms (recomended insertion points). After 3 sensors and four scars I can say that I won't continue with this system in spite of the accuracy. After each visit for insertion and removal I am hurting for a week, not to mention the care that is needed to keep the sites clean and dry. I am not that sure if the hassle and discomfort is worth it. Be happy to a answer any questions about my experience. P.S. In theory, to have an implanted sensor for a longer perion of time, more than a year or evenlonger has great potential for the treatment of diabetes. Just not there yet.

Thank you for your detailed review of the Eversense. I'm using the freestyle libre 2 after using the original freestyle libre for about a year. I'm not sure I have any choice to use any of the others or not. I'm on provincial assistance due to my disabilities making it impossible for me to work. But I'm fortunate to have been covered by the company that makes Freestyle libre under their compassionate care program for the sensors. I am hoping the province will eventually cover the use of the sensors. Now when I first started using the sensors I discovered a huge problem.I could not get the sensors to stay on my skin. I have really dry skin and I'm constantly sloughing dry skin the longest I could keep the sensor on was for about 4 days. My nurse tried different ways to try to attach it to me. I've finally found found a way to make it stay on. I scrub my arm with a pumice stone, then I apply extra virgin olive oil to my arms rub it in and then wipe it dry with paper towel. I then use Dove body wash with exfoliants. And then dry the area. Then my daughter (no longer have a nurse) does the wipe with the alcohol and we apply skin tac and then the sensor. I have the fabric bandages to cover the sensor and makes it hold better by giving a larger area of adhesive. I wasn't aware of an insertable one so that is great. Good news for any people that may have the same problems I had. But I'm glad I found a method that works for me because it sounds like there's a lot of things involved with caring for it and the difficult removal does not sound worth it. Hopefully it will improve in a couple of years. I am so grateful for freestyle libre 2's compassionate care program. I did notice from the beginning that readings were different from the ones I got with my glucometer but my doctor explained that was because you're testing the interstitial fluid and not a direct blood reading. So I've dealt with it. I would love to know if any other companies cover the cost of their different CGMs as freestyle libre does. I'd love to try the other models out. Using the flash CGM of freestyle one and then moving on to libre 2 has done wonders helping me stabilize my sugars. I love the app I use on my phone because my phone is always with me. No pain. No fuss. I tap the sensor with my phone. And I have instant information and charts that give me lots of valuable information about my health. I take multiple readings throughout the day. Now I'm not fond of the alarms going off constantly. Our wifi here in our house is spotty constantly coming in and going out throughout the day and of course then the alarm for the sensor being unavailable goes off. Despite this it does do it's job and has woken me due to lows. I love that I can record my diet and how much insulin I've taken at different times and I can even sneak in other bits of useful information. I'm a T2D. I've had brittle diabetes for years with my sugars up and down constantly. I take massive amounts of insulin because I'm also extremely insulin resistant. I've also recently been taking ozempic (since October last year). I'm tolerating it well and the combination of using the sensor and the ozempic has completely turned my health around. My last a1c before starting the ozempic was around 8 (Canadian diabetic numbers are different from American). Not a really bad number but not great. But I got that far with just the benefit of the sensor and being able to review and record things so easily. But my last a1c came down to about 7 somethin. My Endo was so pleased by my a1c and the information in my online data that he discharged me. My weight is coming off and I've reduced my use of insulin to almost half of what I was taking before I started it and started using the CGM. I never could have/would have been able to track my insulin needs on a daily basis and from moment to moment. No way would I have all this valuable information from a finger prick a few times a day. And my diabetes health care team can check all my information online whenever they need it. Like prior to appointments with me. My goal is to bring my a1c down to about 6.5. Sorry this got a little long😂🤣.

@@Bham67 I didn't hear that either but the company does state the next iteration will only require 1 calibration per week which is awesome! I was introduced to the CGM with a trial sample of the Libre3 and liked it. As it turned out, my insurance only supports Dexcom, so I switched. I liked the way the Libre app presented the data better than the Dexcom, but you have to go into the app to get the reading. A huge plus for the Dexcom is that the current reading can be seen on the lock screen, so you don't even have to unlock your phone. It would be nice if the G7 would last 14 days like the Libre, but only the G7 has the 12 hour grace period.

That was a GREAT video! I loved it! I'm sadly a Medtronic Enlite 2 hater as well, I haven't chosen the Enlite 3 and hopped right onto the Dexcom G6. The medtronic system doesn't give you the choice to silence alerts and would constantly give beeps on 'highs' after meals, even when properly using the bolus wizard! Minimed got sold to Medtronic and the quality of their products suffered pretty sadly. I LOVED them and used them ever since 2000 when I got my first pump, but there needs to be more investments made in the _programming_ to make their pump and enlite system a user-friendly experience. I was using a Medtronic g540 (european model) with my Enlite 2, and the vibration alarm on that thing was SUPER loud, I literally had panic attacks here and there when it woke me. I'm so sorry to say it, but medtronic is barely holding on to the market right now from my experiences.

T1D since 1976. On multiple injections. I use the Eversense. This is due to my age of being 60 years old, on blood thinners, and I don't feel lows. It's a decision of safety first. Also, most of my Dexcom CGMs since 2007, have cause a lot of under skin irritation and bleeding. It does take daily calibrations. But in my case, so did the Dexcom G6 and G7. These would stick at higher levels and not be accurate in my long term tissue with swelling and scar tissue. Eversense is very different from most CGM's. It's the one that works best for me. It has a two week multiple calibration period as the tissue and sensor become accosutomed with each other in the healing process. It tells you when to calibrate. It feels more like a real biomedical piece of biomedical equipment. One thing I have learned is if you calibrate any CGM, make sure you do so when your blood sugar is stable and not when it is quickly rising or falling. I don't use a pump anymore so that's not an issue for me for pumps that work with other CGMs. CGM technology has given me a lot of freedoms and great A1C's. Expect your insulin and CGM therapies to vary as you get older.

I am just hoping the insurance will keep covering it in a year and I can see how it will definitely improve my diabetes. I discovered if I eat an artichoke before I can actually eat potatoes without a spike. I also discovered for me five minutes of brisk walking after a meal will bring my glucose level down 60 points. I ate a meal before a meeting and I went up to 262. Scare me to death. When a break happened I went for a 5-minute brisk walk. In 5 minutes my number started to come down. 45 minutes later I was down to 190. I really thought I would have to walk 20 minutes for that I'm glad I decided to try it during the break.

I still like the Dexcom G6 the best because it can be restarted and I usually get another 10 days of life. I think it is unforgiveable that the G7 is still only 10 days especially since you now can't restart it and the Libre 3 provides 14 days of sensor life. Also the G7 is still is not direct to iWatch as I like a small dedicated CGM reading device over using a clunky multifunction phone I don't always have near me. Sure they sell a dedicate receiver, which I am currently using, but that is becoming so antiquated when something like an iWatch is available and why it's still not direct to iWatch is beyond reason. So I am sticky to the G6 until the G7 fixes those 2 "big" issues and they are supposedly doing that but I am not holding my breath as Dexcom is terrible about making improvements on existing products as they like to reserve them for the next generation CGM so they have new features to market. Call me cynical but it seems like it's all about making the least amount of improvements necessary to get people to buy the next generation products to make more money. Luckily the competition is not standing still and Dexcom could lose market share if they don't get more innovative as the Libre 3 having worldwide availability, 14 day sensor life and adding more pump support, direct to iWatch, and making app improvements could easy make them the #1 CGM IMO! I also recently moved to Mexico and amazingly Dexcom does not sell their products here unlike the Freestyle Libre. So to get my Dexcom products I use my US medical insurance that offers a mail order pharmacy service to send it to my son in the US and every 6 month I go pick it up and bring it back to Mexico to refresh my stockpile and I also have a primary care provider in the US I see once a year so I can continue to get a prescription for the products.

Medtronic sensors are hard to put on especially in arms. You will need someone to help you insert a new sensor. The one thing I like with Medtronic is the tape they use which sticks really good.O The other disadvantage of Medtronic is that one needs to charge the transmitter every time one needs to change a sensor. I’ve called Dexcom and they are sending me a replacement but the next one I put in did the same thing. I’ve heard others are having a lot of issues with the g7 also.
@DiabetesStrong
@DiabetesStrong 3 месяца назад
How annoying. +/-20 mg/dl or +/-20% is considered accurate (enough) but it should allow you to calibrate regardless of how different the reading is. I’ve had one that wouldn’t let me calibrate at all, so I know it happens. Hopefully, you won’t see that issue consistently

What CGM is the Best for You? The one that works with my hybrid closed loop insulin pump. As far as I am concerned, if you want the best control for your diabetes, you have to use a closed loop pump that uses a CGM to regulate your basal insulin. Anything else is just too much guess work and hoping and praying. I am currently on the Tandem T:slim pump. So I use the Dexcom G6. Hopefully in the next year or two Tandem will eventually update its pump to allow use of the Dexcom G7. But until then, I have to use the G6 even if the G7 is better and new and improved. I used to use the Medtronic 670 pump. It used the very inaccurate Guardian CGM. I did not trust it at all. But it was the CGM that worked with my pump, so I had no alternative.

Hi, When I first started wearing CGM senors (Freestyle Libre2), I did have a few instances of sensor displacement, which Abbott kindly replaced. And, most recently, I've displaced one due to unusually high activity. But, being used to wearing, I have been able to adjust to it and haven't had to get Abbott to replace them. Accuracy though, is another issue. Try as many systems as your insurance will cover, to see which is best for you, personally.

That's the most important thing and Dexcom is accurate. Note: the first day wearing the sensor can be inaccurate. But it self corrects within a day. Dexcom was and is life changing for T1D's! Well, I declare, this here video on CGMs is like a catfish doin' a two-step in a moonlit bayou - just the finest thing you ever did see! It's like grits with extra butter on a Sunday mornin', smoother than sweet tea on a front porch swing. Y'all, this video's the bee's knees, the cream in your coffee, and the cherry on top of a pecan pie. It's like finding a needle in a haystack, but easier than a Sunday sermon. If this video were a country song, it'd be a toe-tappin', boot-scootin' anthem. I tell you what, it's more enjoyable than a summer breeze on a front porch rocker. Ain't nothin' else like it this side of the Mississippi. So, grab your cowboy hat and put on your dancin' boots, 'cause this CGM video is a hoot and a half! It'll have you grinnin' like a possum in a persimmon tree. Don't let it pass you by - it's the real McCoy, the cat's pajamas, and the pick of the litter, all rolled into one. Git along, little dogies, and give it a watch - you won't be disappointed, I reckon!
