Chameleons need a cage which is big enough, hold the right temperature/humidity, and provide for their sense of security. It is a space in which we must create the environment they need to care for themselves. By the end of this episode you will have an overview of the chameleon cage evaluation process and will be able to make an educated decision when buying your chameleon cage.
I have just launched a Chameleon Academy line of enclosures specifically for giving your chameleon the best home! Check them out here:

Dude I love you man. 😊thanks so much for enlightening and sharing your suggestions. You explain it all so well. I’m building the inside of my screen cage after your ideas for my female veiled. Getting all of my proper fogger/mister everything for my next first panther.

I am very thankful to find your videos. They are well put together and easy to understand. My 10 year old has his first chameleon (veiled chameleon). He has been wanting one for years, and even with trying to prepare with information before hand I’m left with needing more understanding. We homeschool, so his school for this week will be putting together as much information as possible to keep in a binder to be at our finger tips. I’ve had many reptiles over the years but this is our family’s first chameleon. It’s exciting for everyone! We want to make this little guy as healthy and happy as possible. So thank you again for such a detailed easy to understand video!

Here is a link that could help with the research into Veiled chameleons. It has a care guide, video tutorial, detailed explanations of each item in the care guide, and at the end there is a list of podcast interviews with someone who studied them in the wild (which is impossible now because of the civil war in Yemen). chameleonacademy.com/veiled-chameleon-care/

Planning on buying a panther here soon but I just bought a cage and am getting it all set up before! I bought an 8x4x2 because I wanted to give my future Chameleon as much space as possible and I can’t wait to start setting it up! My local reptile store owner has chameleons and is comings to help me set it up as well! I am so excited!

Any suggestions for a panther build housing a hermaphrodite chameleon? He does lay eggs as females do but as every outward sign like colour and such (see avatar picture for the troublemaker) clearly says male he doesnt have the same colour change indicators to know when to put a laying bin in. Is there a way to incorporate a permanent laying bin that i can just take out to get rid of unfertalized eggs and put right back in, rather then putting in when they're indicating 'ready' (since his colouring says male and thus doesnt give classic female ready-to-lay signs) and then removing the rest of the time? If it helps i do fully bioactive soil bottom enclosures with enough plantlife and branches to make babies an absolute nightmare to find when first getting. The amount of times i swear a baby had escaped only to find one sitting under a leaf by a branch I'd checked twenty times already. Pothos is very much my friend for propagation. And trust me, rushing to the vet fearing impaction only to find out "good news, your cham isnt impacted. Fun news, he just laid eggs in the container we were using while we set up the machine to see whats going on inside". And i still had to pay the emergency bill. But at least i now have free physical exams as they are now a study piece for the teaching hospital, so i supose theres an upside? Seriously what am i supposed to use to gender a hermaphrodite even. I just worry about getting eggbound since with both sexual setups they might be more prone to that. Im suprised i didnt notice earlier as ive had him a few years already. Ive noticed them occasionally digging in the dirt but after the first few panicked vet trips over them hanging out at the bottom and then look overs i figured they were just an anomaly. Seeing as its already a weirdo and freakishly smart for a lizard that isnt a monitor. I even found them once having dug an actual tunnel. Can't help but wonder now if they were laying eggs and thats why they were such a digger.

Sounds like you would just incorporate soil into your caging. The biggest challenge with that is making sure the soil does not saturate. So you have the balance the misting.

In Switerland we have to keep a minimum cage of 5 x 3 x 5 cage for the size Head and Body so if a Pantherchamelon have 25 cm length. They have to stay in a minimum of 125cm x 75cm × 125cm. And trust me. Biger is even better for your chameleon

Are there any commercially made cages available in Switzerland in these sizes or does everyone have to make their own cages?

@@ChameleonAcademy for first we habe to go to a chameleon scool. Its called proof of expertise. They teach us for two days about lightning, feeding and how you have to go with your cages. The next step its to go to the veterinary office. You have to tell with what chameleon you would go for yourself. So we habe laws for the cages how big and how they have to be with lightning and the furnishings. So we have to start to build for our self the cage or we can go to an company for terrariums and can tell what we need for a cage. The law say: at minimum 2 sides of the cage have to be screen. And the top too. But the scool its teaching us that would be better to have the chameleon in full screen cages. So i have build my to cages with two sides of screen and the top. The next step its to call the veterinary office and make the subject to approval. Than a person its comming to you (in my way was a person of the zoo zurich) to look how you make the cages for your chameleon. So if this person say its ok you can buy a chameleon. In switzerland the laws for chameleon are really stronger than in every other country in europe. But i think its ok because we have to take care right about this beautiful creatures.
