Hi. Those Republicans sure are hypocritical, aren't they? In this episode, we take a look at some of the many things they are hypocritical about, and analyze what that says about who they are and what they really believe.

Gotta love how conservatives hear the phrase "drag mom," _make up a definition from their weak imaginations whole-cloth,_ then parade that definition around as if it's a verified fact that they're totally not being dishonest about. For the enlightenment of those who don't know: "drag mom" is the term used for a veteran drag queen who mentors adult drag queens who are just starting out in the drag scene. They give makeup, fashion, & lip-synching advice, in addition to helping boost the confidence of new drag performers.

Your father does something, according to your story, proving conservatives have always been hypocrites, because hypocrisy is equated with conservatism ... because ... reasons ... something, something ... blah, blah, blah. That's not how the world works. Talk about an ignorant, unfounded generalization based on nothing but a story you like to tell about your dad. You do know both Democrats, & Republicans in this country called themselves conservatives in large numbers throughout the 1960's, the 70's, the 80's & into the 90's. Someone from the left smearing a large segment of the US population based on a 40 year old family story about your Father who may have been a crumby Conservative, is pretty revealing. You do know a 4 year college deferment would make any 4-F diagnosis unnecessary, & personal physicians, & local doctors didn't grant 4-F status, Army doctors at official induction centers had to diagnose an inductee 4-F, or any of the other service status ratings, after an in-person, physical examination. But the "by any means necessary," mantra isn't exactly associated with the right is it. Telling a bs a story about your own dad, & believing that means conservatives have always been hypocrites, because your dad wasn't really much of a Conservative was he, he sounds like a East Coast liberal Republican at worst, they made up an entire wing of the Republican Party back then, it doesn't sound like your anecdote based theory makes a lick of sense

We learned from our history, so we may never let it happen again, but then we look over to the U.S. and see the same tactics, the same rhetoric and ideas, that Hitler used, utilized by one of the major parties. Hitler didn't just want to be a nice and happy Germany and that everyone should be German. He was a traumatized, hateful occultist who directed the anger of the people after the lost first world war towards Jews and other nations. He didn't want for everyone being German. Furthermore, he wanted revenge. He wanted to ''end the shame'' and to make Germans proud to be Germans. But being proud isn't always good. As a drag performer and trans dude: drag families are business relationships between adults. A drag parent is a mentor and their "child" (who is an adult, mind you) is akin to an apprentice, offering stuff like carrying bags and bringing fresh ideas in exchange for tutorship in a performing art that we have already chosen to do. Similar but unrelated, a drag spouse is also a business thing between friends. I'm a king, my drag "wife" is one of my best friends who's a drag queen and she helps me get bookings (due to the difficulty in the industry of kings obtaining bookings on our own no matter how talented we are) and in exchange I drive her to bookings we have, carry her bags, make her mixes etc. Also, as a performer who frequently does all ages shows, and absolutely loves doing them and interacting with the kids, our costumes and music choices are gone over with a fine tooth comb to make sure they're pg or pg13 depending on the venue and producer. Kids that come there with their parents absolutely love it. My day job is working with kids with special needs. One of my brothers works in the same field for his day job. They pick us as performers because we know how to interact with them and love working with them. Many of us are parents too. They seem to ignore that these events are things you have to go out of your way to attend, nobody is forcing anyone to attend. Most of the parents attending the shows are some degree of queer themselves, or are friends and allies who know that we're offering quality entertainment that's more family friendly than most of the content on TV and the radio even. Sorry for rambling, it just hits a nerve as someone who has a horse in this race, and is trying to start a family with my husband. I would say that my single greatest headache when speaking to "conservatives" on pretty much anything involving something bad happening is that they are often completely disconnected from how an issue actually impacts people's lives. Conservatives never have a problem with something bad happaning to someone that they can't connect to but as soon as the problem is shoved on them, rage and indignation commences. They often have VERY under devolped senses of empathy and LOVE broad brush approches to complex and personal problems, like gun safety and abortion. Its not a problem for them because their families aren't dying from the issues so they can't care less.
@brandonkegler8585
@brandonkegler8585 5 месяцев назад
As a conservative, I understand your point but I don't think you're entirely correct. From a right wing perspective, every issue the left advances is painted as life or death, and deserving of all our compassion and support (trans issues, gun violence, women's rights, pay gap, crony capitalism, lack of welfare programs, racism, immigration etc.). The problem with this approach is that conservatives are typically more logic based, and less emotion based, and any effort by conservatives to logically frame an issue or to prioritize one over the other is seen as lacking empathy, rather than simply having differing priorities and values than leftists. Conservatives, at least from my perspective, care about their immediate family and financial situation, as opposed to leftists, who care about a plethora of social issues, all of which seem to require an immediate restructuring of our society to solve, and which are all outside the abilities of any individual to remediate. It seems to me that conservatives want to focus on fixing problems that they can concretely observe, whereas leftists focus on more abstract and theoretical problems that seem to require a bit more... imagination to understand (black conservatives being called white supremacists is a good example of this). I believe the disagreement between liberals and conservatives is directly fueled by the media and government, who profit from social unrest. They take the actions of the far right and inappropriately apply it to all conservatives, and take the actions of the far left and apply it to all liberals. In reality, liberals, libertarians and conservatives have a lot more in common with eachother than they do with the authoritarians at either end of the political spectrum. One more thing. My biggest gripe with the left is that they continue to play the victim. All the tech companies, the vast majority of the mainstream media, all of primary and secondary education is dominated by the left, yet the left speaks as if they are still in the 1950's, fighting a war that was won generations ago. There are no more concrete battles to win, so now they go with abstract and lofty concepts like fighting "the patriarchy" and "white supremacy". Which is what annoys conservatives so much. Many times the left seems unable to define what they are fighting against and what victory would look like. It's just an unending tide of "progress".
@Redpoppy80
@Redpoppy80 5 месяцев назад
@@brandonkegler8585 The only thing I am going to challenge is your last statement. The conservative right paints itself as the victim just as much as the left. If you insist, I will link proof of that. But to a more productive point, I completely disagree with your framing of ANY big business as "left-wing". This is a gross mischaracterization of the populist/socialist left. To start, there IS NOT ONE politician in the federal government that represents my wishes. Not AOC, not Bernie Sanders, there is no one so please don't group me with them. I want to completely replace the entire construction of the economic system as a whole because it has been corrupted by its sole desire for profit at the expense of literally EVERYTHING else. I would argue that America has become politically stagnate to the point of immovability to the logical end of the system of imperial capitalism where only a microscopic number of people control all of the money while everyone else is sacrificed on the "alter" of profit. I want an actual workplace system where the workers get a share of the profits and have a direct say in the direction of their workplace, not a system where parasites who do or add nothing, get all of the profits and power that workers make. But here in the USA where the Overton window is the fighting of "breadcrumbs" many people like you who don't spend the time to look beyond your immediate surroundings and frequently dismiss things you don't immediately understand as "wish in the sky thinking" is why the system is unchanged. It is no different than flat earthers who can't see the whole planet just dismiss the possibility outright that the Earth is indeed spherical. Rejecting something you don't understand, or even consider the possibility of, is not "logical" it is in fact, quite emotional. But that requires trying something "new" which in every single interaction with conservatives that I have had, terrifies them, which again, is putting emotion before logic.
@brandonkegler8585
@brandonkegler8585 5 месяцев назад
@@Redpoppy80 I don't disagree with a lot of your points. All businesses and politicians engage in faux social justice concerns. They pretend to care about the issue du jour, but at the same time engage in predatory capitalist policies. They are absolutely hippocrites. The only industry where I disagree with you is in social media. Right wing opinions seem to be suppressed, either through active banning or built in algorithms, at a far greater rate than left wing opinions. This is confirmed in many interviews done with former engineers at Google, Twitter and Facebook. They push their political messaging at the expense of free speech, but part of that is due to pressure from the American alphabet organizations or political parties. I disagree with you that conservatives are short slighted and that being politically conservative is in the same realm as being a flat earther, though I do understand the point you were trying to make. Conservatives are traditional by nature, and that simply means they uphold culture and institutions that have worked in the past, simply because they have worked well enough up to that point. They are one half of the coin that is the people of a nation. If the right was 100% in control, then everything would stagnate and all social or scientific progress would stop. However, if the left was 100% in control, everything would change at such a rapid pace as to cause the civilization to collapse. Completely overthrowing all previous institutions is usually not necessary. Which is why the constant give and take deliberation between conservatives and liberals is necessary. I do not consider the Marxist far left the same as classical liberals, just to be clear. I haven't met a conservative that is terrified by new ideas. That seems to be a strange accusation to level at half the population. A right and left winger can look at the same set of data and arrive at an entirely different conclusion based solely on their differing viewpoints. That doesn't mean that one or the other is stupid or scared. It seems to me that this dehumanizing of the opposing side benefits no one but the government and corporations, as it keeps us fighting eachother instead of them. This dehumanizing comes from both sides of the political spectrum, but is a lot more prevalent on the left as they retain control over all educational institutions and most media as I mentioned previously. I don't want to be ruled by an authoritarian, as my views are not really represented by any political party either. I am a national socialist I suppose, but I hate fascism. Even though that political view is relatively innocuous, a leftist would shriek at me and call me a Nazi. Which exemplifies my issue with the left. They seem to be unknowingly pushing for a new form of Marxism to become the dominant political force, and their usual form of discourse involves calling their opponents some sort of "-ist" or "-phobe", and then blaming some universally oppressive, but at the same time hard to observe force like white supremacy for all society's ills. The left seems to exemplify the personality of an overbearing mother. They have care and compassion in spades, but are aggressive when their children (ideology) is threatened, and are overprotective to the point of destroying their children. Hence why safe spaces and protesting speakers at colleges who have different opinions are so common. They are just as authoritarian as the far right, just for different reasons, and they are just as dangerous. White leftists don't have the foresight to see that fomenting hate against white people, encouranging immigration and supporting affirmative action in the name of fighting white supremacy will hurt their descendents in a couple decades when whites are a minority. Trust me, ignorance is prevalent on both sides. I believe Mao Zedong and Stalin called these people "useful idiots".
@brandonkegler8585
@brandonkegler8585 5 месяцев назад
@@Redpoppy80There is something else I find funny about the left and warriors for social justice in particular. They hate the greedy corporations, the corrupt government, the biased media and the privacy compromising tech companies. Yet, the political views of these avatars of capitalism and the left are virtually identical. Leftists never stop and ask themselves why that is. It's almost as if the left is just designed to stoke social and political unrest while the rich reap the rewards. Who benefits from massive amounts of illegal immigration? The rich. Who benefits from censoring political opposition? The rich. Who benefits from a perpetually medicated population due to untreated mental health issues? The rich. Who benefits from wars (which the left now seems to support)? The rich. Who benefits from riots and social unrest which leads to a more authoritarian government? The rich. But the left just get that warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing that they are doing something good, never mind the fact that their actions benefit the system they are trying to eradicate.

Hell even getting vaccinated and telling his viewers to get vaxxed too. the hypocrisy finally "clicked" for me (in the sense that I understand why they do it, not that I agree with any of it) when I realized how much of it (in US politics in particular) is rooted in evangelical christian thinking, even when the points being made aren't explicitly religious. But everything is framed around the idea that actions are good and just when taken by good people, and bad and immoral when taken by bad people. The actions themselves are completely morally neutral, because "morally good" is something you either ARE or AREN'T based on your internal beliefs, not something you DO. So doing something that would aid or empower people is bad if the people being aided and empowered don't deserve it, and doing something that harms or endangers people is good if the people being harmed and endangered DO deserve it. That's why it's so important to solidify the circular logic that only Good People are able to accrue power and money, so people who have power and money MUST be Good People who earned and deserve it. Obviously when it comes to politicians and pundits there's just as much chance that they just genuinely don't stand for anything and are happy to change their opinions based on what keeps them in power/makes them money. But when you're looking at the ordinary people who make up their audience and supporters, I think it becomes easier to understand WHY so many of them seem entirely willing and able to hold directly contradictory ideas about policies and social issues when you realize they're operating on this kind of black and white morality, rather than on any evidence about material impacts on society.

A "Drag Mom" is a title used for a veteran drag queen performer, somebody with alot of experience doing drag, and a "Drag child" is a drag queen who is fairly new to performing in drag events. Both of these individuals are adults! That information is painfully easy to google. Often times drag is very inclusive to new performers and many people get into it via improv. A drag mom is just somebody who is around, is supportive like a mother is, and might give you some confidence or tips in performing in something many people find embarassing at first, they don't recruit! It's like if you perform your first play, somebody who's there and has done a million might give you a pep talk to ease some jitters. Also drag does not by any means require performers to be trans, gay, etc. In fact drag was invented and performed by straight men for the majority of drag's history, it just so happens to attract alot of the LGBTQ+ community because of the overall themes and supportive community. A drag show is often just a variety comedy show aimed at entertaining the audience. Sometimes there is no basically sugesstive behavior, sometimes it's just a story time and singalong, sometimes it's a slightly raunchy event at a late night gay bar. It's just a moniker of an event where the performer dresses in the opposite sex and then entertains the audience. Banning all drag, especially in regards to children attending them is basically like saying no comedy events can have kids at them, which sure many comedy personalities probably shouldn't do their bit in front of children because of adult themese, but there are still many comedy and music shows literally designed for a young audience without those themes.

As a mother of a daughter who got pregnant at 16 (despite the fact that I took her to get birth control when she began her period, because let’s face it, it’s better to be safe than sorry and I remembered what it was like to be a hormonal teenager) teenagers are not ready to be parents. She waited until after it was too late for an abortion to tell us and my husband and I ended up raising our grandson. I love him but she should have waited. The father was around for awhile but now he only occasionally calls.
@zester000

@@bronotamrok3002 I can't speak with 100% certainty, but from what I gather she wished that he was born to ready parents and in a better situation. She wants what's best for him! Unwanted children raised by unprepared parents often have worse childhoods, which results in a worse adulthood and unhappier life. It's not just about the baby, either. Growing, birthing, and then raising a child is draining, physically, emotionally, and financially.
@bronotamrok3002
@bronotamrok3002 Год назад
@@zester000, that’s not what she said anyway. We can only know what she wrote. She said teens aren’t ready to be parents (certainly an incontrovertible statement), and that to her abortion of child would have been preferable, but for the daughter waiting too long to tell them. So she and her husband ended up raising the boy instead, and “they love him, BUT…” their daughter should have waited to have a child (aka had an abortion). That’s messed up, is all I am saying.
@bronotamrok3002
@bronotamrok3002 Год назад
@Moreece Killigen , interesting take. I didn’t say any of that, because it is a given. Teen pregnancy is certainly a problem, but in this situation what she describes is being annoyed that her daughter waited too long and couldn’t get an abortion. She’s literally wishing her grandson didn’t exist even though “she loves him.” She laments the waiting until it’s too late to abort, and then says she wishes the lad away. I expressed the idea that wishing the grandchild you are raising out of existence is messed up (and not necessarily incorrect, the kid could really suck, who knows?), that’s all. Your sentiment that it’s messed up I didn’t consider what a teen wants to do instead of being a parent is kinda a different thing, right?

@@bronotamrok3002 I don't believe I put any words in her mouth in my original reply? I even said that I don't know her personally, so I can't be certain. To me, it's pretty clear that what I said is what she meant. They love him, but she should have waited until she was ready so as to not place that burden on her or her family. She could still have another child later in life. Ultimately, it's a difficult choice to make, which is why I feel it should be left a choice. I agree with the original comment. Babies in the womb aren't fully conscious or human yet, so an abortion is more so about the potential of life than it is a full fledged life. Besides, there are plenty of already born children without families. We tend to only focus on procreation when we think of a family unit. I understand how you feel, but I ask that you don't pass judgement onto other families. They know their situation and circumstances and know whether or not they can raise a good person.

For me, even some more subtle cases of hypocrisy demonstrate a refusal to practice reciprocity in social relations. If standards are different for how you behave and other people and you demonstrate that, then trust breaks down in the community because people can't trust that you will do the decent thing on principle even if they would. It's a rules for thee but not for me thing that manifests in moving goal posts and generalized unfairness and I think its unhealthy for a community.

Had to come here to discuss the “drag lunch” we came upon as a family last summer - and I mention this only because Matt Walsh, asshat that he is, says I should be hauled off for apparently not removing my kids immediately from the PUBLIC OUTDOOR event that (gasp!) featured drag performers. We didn’t do our research, and didn’t realize that our lunch was, in fact, the monthly “drag brunch.” Kids (age 9, boy/girl twins) had a ball, though to be fair my son initially informed me that men in drag were “sus.” (He relented when I explained to him the historic use of drag in theater when women weren’t allowed to do basically anything.) our daughter thought the drag performers were some kind of gods, and now asks me frequently if I could please, please do drag performances for her. I am considering it, because I’m an awesome parent and I love my kids. Arrest me, Matt Walsh, you monster.

And my grandma too. When I was little, like 5-9, we would go to my grandparents house every Sunday. Among the many toys in the basement (Lincoln logs, tinker toys, cardboard construction bricks, trucks, ect) there was a box of dress up stuff from my dad's and aunts childhood. So myself (m), my brother, and my sister's would occasionally do fashion shows. As there was a single canary yellow jumpsuit and a bunch of dresses, my older brother snagged that, so I would grab a wig, a dress, and heels. And sometimes we would have a tea party(Gatorade, cookies, and cheese and crackers) afterwords still dressed up. So apparently she, a conservative christian, belongs in jail for not yelling at children for being children. Oh, and the christian camp I volunteered at as a teen, because one of the counselors lost a bet and wore a dress over his clothes in front of children... once. For like half an hour. Unforgivable.

I'd argue that libertarian-leftism is about as far from conservative as it gets, and that totalitarian tendencies are pretty uncommon among the american left. So this one got stuck in my craw for some reason, bottom surgery is something that is never done on anyone under 18 but circumcision is just fine? I know that bottom surgery is part of a proper health care treatment and is completely fine but that's kinda my point, one is a part of a comprehensive health plan to ensure that our trans brother and sisters can get the help and acceptance they deserve and as such it requires a large amount of scrutiny and mental care to get to that point and as such is never done on anyone under 18, meanwhile circumcision that is 'bottom surgery' by definition is just something done to children without a single raised eyebrow. The fuck? Is all I'm saying. Edit: shit I really can't believe I forgot about it but intersex correction surgeries are performed on children without anyone batting a fucking eye either because it makes them 'normal' I guess... is that the difference?

Surgery because someone believes their physical sex is incorrect should have to wait until they're an adult. Circumcision of males or females should be illegal to perform on anyone under 18 except in cases of actual medical necessity (which is very seldom).
