I recently passed the PE chemical exam. As a chemical engineer, I have had site manufacturing engineering roles as well as engineering design firm roles. I’m worried my site engineering roles will not count as qualifying experience for my license application. You mentioned that in industries where you do not offer engineering services to the public, non licensed supervisors will work. But what would one put for the project section of the experience write up?

I've had a variety of design, analysis, and inspection experiences. Two questions though? 1) Do structural inspections of existing infrastructure count as engineering experience? 2) I have a Master of Engineering (Master of Engineering) in Structural Engineering (1-year program). Will that count as a year toward my experience?

Hello Philip. These are both excellent questions and the answers would likely vary depending on the state where you are planning to pursue your engineering license. I would send an email to the engineering licensing board in your state and ask these two questions and try to get answers in writing.

Is it possible yo have our overseas/ foreign years of experience accredited? How?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Месяц назад
@ayaashraf8375 Yes, you can get your overseas experience accredited! Contact your State Licensing Board for specific instructions. You'll need to provide detailed documentation of your experience and may need a credential evaluation. Tips: - Highlight any experience with U.S. codes and standards - Include references from licensed PEs - Be patient with the evaluation process For more information, check out NCEES (ncees.org/licensure/international-professionals/) and your State Licensing Board website. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Yes, you can take the PE exam again if you did not pass in previous attempts. In fact, you can take the exam multiple times if needed. Many engineers do not pass the exam on their first try and need to retake it multiple times to pass. If you would like to take the PE exam again and switch to the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format, you will need to register for the CBT exam with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The CBT format offers more flexibility in terms of when and where you can take the exam, as well as a quicker turnaround time for exam results. Before registering for the exam again, it may be helpful to review your previous exam results and identify areas where you may need additional study and preparation. There are many resources available to help you prepare for the PE exam, including study guides, review courses, and practice exams. You may also want to consider working with a tutor or joining a study group to help you prepare.

My bosses are Canadian citizens, I wish you could address whether or not they could be considered viable (P Eng)
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
Regarding the Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada, here are some key points to consider: Canadian Professional Engineering Regulators: The P.Eng. designation is regulated by individual provincial and territorial engineering regulators in Canada. Each province or territory has its own regulatory body responsible for licensing professional engineers and overseeing the engineering profession within its jurisdiction. Requirements for Licensure: To become a licensed Professional Engineer in Canada, individuals typically need to meet specific educational, experience, and examination requirements set by the engineering regulator in the province or territory where they wish to practice. These requirements may include completing an accredited engineering degree, obtaining a certain amount of relevant work experience, and passing professional practice exams. International Engineering Graduates: If your bosses are Canadian citizens but earned their engineering degrees from outside Canada, they may need to go through a process to have their credentials assessed for comparability and eligibility. This process often involves submitting their educational transcripts and documentation to a designated organization for evaluation. In Canada, the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB) provides guidelines for the assessment of international engineering qualifications. Specific Provincial Requirements: It's important to note that licensing requirements and processes may vary slightly among provinces and territories in Canada. Therefore, your bosses should consult the engineering regulatory body in the specific province where they intend to practice to get accurate information on the requirements and procedures for obtaining a P.Eng. designation. Engineering Mobility: Canada has agreements, such as the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) and the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT), that aim to facilitate the mobility of professionals, including engineers, among different provinces and territories. These agreements allow for streamlined processes and mutual recognition of qualifications, making it easier for engineers to work in different jurisdictions within Canada. It's recommended that your bosses reach out to the engineering regulatory body in the province where they wish to practice to get personalized guidance on their specific situation. The regulatory bodies can provide detailed information on the licensure process, assessment of credentials, and any additional requirements for becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.

Hi, the NSPE document from 2018 is outdated, many states have decoupled the experience requirement from the eligibility for taking the PE exam since then. I cannot seem to find an updated document compiled for all the states, but if you look at the websites of the licensing boards of individual states you can see that this is the case. A document showing the current regulations for all states in one place would be extremely helpful, but I guess for now we just have to check the website for each state seperately.

I passed bachelor degree from India and have more then 4 years of experience in Nepal as it is my native country, now I am in ths USA. How can I apply for the PE exam?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam 10 месяцев назад
To apply for the PE exam in the USA with a bachelor's degree from India and 4 years of experience in Nepal, you will need to follow these steps: *Check the requirements for your state. Each state has its own requirements for PE licensure, so it is important to check the requirements for the state where you want to be licensed. You can find this information on the website of your state's engineering board. *Have your degree evaluated. Since your degree is from a foreign university, you will need to have it evaluated by an accredited credential evaluation service to determine if it is equivalent to a US engineering degree. You can find a list of accredited credential evaluation services on the website of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). *Take and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. The FE exam is a computer-based exam that covers a wide range of engineering fundamentals. You can register for the FE exam on the NCEES website. *Gain four years of acceptable engineering experience. Your engineering experience must be relevant to the engineering discipline in which you want to be licensed. You can gain experience by working as an engineer under the supervision of a licensed engineer. *Apply for and take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. The PE exam is a two-day exam that covers the principles and practice of engineering in your chosen discipline. You can register for the PE exam on the NCEES website. I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Very informative video. What state did you receive your PE? In in the state of NJ, regarding qualifying experience, I need 4 years under the supervision of a licensed professional, proof of graduating from an accredited university, as well as have passed the FE Exam. All which I've done thus far with pushing the FE Exam just recently. My question is, I'm trying to determine if the years of experience count as qualifying prior to becoming an EIT or if it doesn't matter which order I achieve these requirements?

Will military experience count if you got it before you graduated from college? Prior to having a degree?

This would likely depend on the kind of military experience you have. If it is related to engineering, then it may count, but you would most likely need to give a list of your specific experiences that you've acquired to the state that you are applying to.

Hello, thank you for this informative video. Question pertaining to experience before graduating. I was wondering what course/ courses you mentioned that needed to be taken for the experience to count before graduation? Im one of those different route taken, not the typ 4 yr degree, 4-5 yrs of experience. I have a bunch of experience however I am still finishing my undergrad and in NJ you can waive FE with 15 yrs experience and a four year degree. I am slightly nervous and hope they count my experience prior to getting my 4 yr degree.
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
Thank you for your question, and I'm glad that you found the video informative. To clarify, there are no specific courses that you need to take to count work experience before graduating. However, some states may have specific guidelines or requirements regarding what types of work experience can count towards the professional engineering experience requirement. In general, to become a licensed professional engineer (PE), most states require four years of qualifying engineering work experience under the supervision of a licensed PE. This work experience typically needs to be gained after completing your undergraduate engineering degree. However, some states may allow certain types of pre-graduation experience to count towards the four-year requirement, provided that the experience is relevant to the engineering field and meets specific criteria set by the state licensing board. If you are unsure about whether your pre-graduation experience will count towards the professional engineering experience requirement, I would recommend contacting your state's licensing board or engineering society for guidance. They should be able to provide you with more information about the specific requirements in your state and whether your experience will count. I hope this helps, and good luck with your licensure journey!

Hi I have Masters's Degree and EIT, In California does only 1 year of experience enough to get a PE License?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
In California, a minimum of two years of acceptable engineering experience is required to qualify for a Professional Engineering (PE) license. This experience must be obtained after completing your EIT certification and can include work performed before or after earning your master's degree. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. California's Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG) may accept up to one year of credit towards the experience requirement if you have a graduate degree in engineering from an accredited institution. So, if you have a Master's degree in engineering from an accredited institution, you may be eligible for one year of credit towards the experience requirement, which means you would need only one additional year of acceptable engineering experience to qualify for a PE license in California. It's important to note that the specific requirements for obtaining a PE license in California can change over time, so I would recommend checking the BPELSG website for the most up-to-date information and requirements.

In California will civil experience under the supervision of a CEG or PG count as qualifying experience? The wording on their documents is a little unclear to me on how this situation works . Ultimately a civil PE reviews and approves the work that I do, but it is primarily coordinated with PGs. For context my experience is performing geotechnical investigations and planning, oversight and quality control on pipeline and vertical construction projects as a prime contractor for federal clients. Ive tried emailing the California board but haven't received any responses. My company is willing to transfer my direct supervisor to be a civil PE but it'd be a shame to lose out on those years of experience.

Is engineering technician considered an experience?
@PassthePEExam
@PassthePEExam Год назад
Whether engineering technician experience can be counted towards the experience requirement for taking the Professional Engineering (PE) exam depends on the specific requirements of the state or jurisdiction in which you are seeking licensure. In some states, engineering technician experience can count towards the experience requirement, while in others it may not be sufficient. For example, in some states, engineering technician experience may be considered relevant experience if it is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer and involves tasks that are similar to those performed by a professional engineer. It's important to review the requirements for licensure and exam eligibility in your state or jurisdiction to determine whether your engineering technician experience can be counted towards the experience requirement for the PE exam. You can typically find this information on the website of your state's engineering licensing board or by contacting them directly.

I don't know man, it seems like you are not being completely honest. What is your motivation for pushing the P.E. license? Who is paying you? "Most successful engineers will tell you, that getting their P.E. license was the biggest career growth driver that they have experienced." This may be true for the small percentage of engineers who work on public infrastructure for their state, but 99% of engineers don't need and should not bother with the P.E. license. I have spent 10 years in Aerospace working for a few of the largest companies in the US (Northrup Grumman, General Dynamics, JPL). I spent years developing automated test systems for Intel Corp. I have worked with a lot of very successful EE and ME engineers with BS, MS and PhD degrees. Not a single one of them has a P.E. license and they are some of the top engineering minds in the country designing the next space based technology. If you need the P.E. license for your work, then do it, but it won't help if yo don't need it.
