Few books in recent years have enjoyed the popularity of Dan Brown's novel, The Da Vinci Code. Set amid the museums and cathedrals of Europe, the book purports to identify the Holy Grail and describes mysterious rituals and secret religious beliefs that have been kept hidden from the world by an ancient conspiracy. The most sensational claim made in the book is that Jesus was married and that his bloodline has been perpetuated in a princely line of unidentified descendants. That premise has captured the imagination of readers of all faiths and caused Latter-day Saints to wonder how much of the book is factual and how much is the product of the author's imagination.
In this lively conversation, three Latter-day Saint scholars discuss The Da Vinci Code, examining the plausibility of the "facts" presented by the author and comparing those to the teachings of the scriptures. Whether you have read the book or just been caught up in the world's current fascination with Christ, you'll find these informed opinions both interesting and faith promoting.

One classic saying is, if he didn't know about those things, what else did he not know.

It seems clear to me that he was married and that Mary Magdalene was his spouse; this will explain why he first appeared to her and would also explain the marriage at Cana. I find nothing wrong (whatsoever) with this fact; he was the example in all things (including marriage).

Of course the scriptures ignore any marriage he would have, by Jewish tradition he had to be prior to a lot of what he did in the new testament. What would his progeny really matter other then them being falsely worshipped or attacked? It would only muddy the waters of his message too. My ancestors did lots of amazing things, does this make me a fuller or expert lawyer? Preposterous. Based solely on that, who really cares?

If the man Jesus HAD been married and had children, that was one of the characterisitics the Jew's Messiah should have had. Because he did not, is one of the reasons the Jews never accepted him as the Messiah. Besides the fact that there would be peace on earth when He comes. If you read a Jewish Bible, it is not Christianized, and you will see the differences in the Hebrew to English translation--and know what was "really" written by Hashem.

Many Jews did accept Jesus as the Messiah, as many do today & will continue to, especially as evidence of the truth of the resurrection & his crucifixion has been uncovered at Golgotha.
