Thank you for making this! I’m a first year hygiene student and it’s so easy to feel alone and lesser than. It’s comforting to hear everyone struggles!
I’m 29 and really considering choosing this career path because it’s the only profession I see myself doing as a dream job. Your voice and personality is so welcoming! ❤
I needed this.. I’m a junior in my program and it only gets more advanced so hearing that you struggled as well and seeing where you are today is just the motivation I needed! I truly appreciate you.. there’s light at the end of the tunnel☀️
Thank you so much for making this video! I am just completing my first semester, and boy is it tough. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. The stress is unbearable, everyday I want to quit....but I won't bc it is what I want to do. I feel so inadequate even though I make good grades most of the time. This is a completely new field for me, I have no background in dentistry. I am so exhausted, I can hardly think most of the time. I feel like a zombie. I am currently taking this program at a private school, TCDH.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I am going to into the Dental Hygiene program after I am out of the military and I wanted to know some more information about this program! Thank you again!
I needed to hear this. Dental hygiene is my dream career. I recently worked as a dental assistant and had a negative experience in office and started to doubt myself.
Thank you for this video definitely gave me more of a push! I am from Toronto Ontario as well thank goodness ak seen your video. I moved to the US now. Thank you for the really great advise❤
I am starting my dental hygiene journey in 27 days ahh! I am very excited and nervous at the same time, so thank you for the encouragement! I just stumbled upon your channel and I didn't realize that u live in Ontario too! What a coincidence!
Everything you said I totally agree with.It was a hard hard slog and I skipped so many classes because I hated it so much. Would you do a vid on your fav hand instruments??❤
hi! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I was reading through the comments and I saw that you went to Toronto College of Dental Hygiene. I am choosing between 3 colleges including that one because I am also from Toronto, but I saw many bad reviews about every college that I searched. I guess my questions would be, is it hard to get into the program even if you meet all the pre-requisites? and how would you say was the experience in your college? and how hard was it to find a job after graduating? sorry for all these questions!!
I just graduated dental assisting school and the plan is to go hygiene right away but reading the comments has really stressed me out. I do know all the terminology but still it sounds like it's no where close to assisting school I think I should stick to assisting
I was waitlist for Jan at the sister school VCDH, so excited but so terrified of the stress and hard work for 18 months. Have to search for the best study tips so I can prepare
@@tazbaby35 yes the program gets really busy . a lot of my friends get in there next semester (May). how's it going for you? Is it hard, I'm also working on the prerequisites now to get in there most probably semester after this .
@@santkaur9340 I am only in the first semester and it's been 5 weeks and I am so tired. But if you have a good study routine or habits really try to stay on top of that and review and assignments. Pre-clinical is also a long class and it can be draining by the afternoon. most importantly try not to stress about everything.. I can't wait to see them all in May/June
I've been watching your videos lately and they have been very helpful! Lately I've been thinking about going into dental hygiene. Before going into the program is there anything you recommend me learning or doing? Right now Im sticking with my boss until he retires soon and after that I'm planning to pursue this!
That’s great! It depends on what dental hygiene program you want to attend. For example, I went to a private school, and I did have to take an entrance exam for English, sciences, things like that. I find that hard to prepare for you just had to know it. But you could review those things online, but I just went in and did the best I could and ended up passing :-)
As a dental assistant, I've been weighing the pros and cons of possibly going into dental hygiene in the future; out of curiosity, did you find that being an assistant beforehand helped give you a bit of a leg up on becoming a hygienist, or did you find that benefit to be relatively minimal?
Thanks for the video, what school in Canada has the 18 months program?. I’m in Ottawa and there are two schools Algonquin college( 3 years) and there is a private one CNIH but it cost around 60k.
Hi Dentalle, great vid🩷 This sounds silly, but i have a question: How would I know if I'd want to pursue dental hygiene? Im looking into therapy schools but would like to work with my hands. Thank you!
I'm not who you were asking, but I'm a high school student also thinking about pursuing a career in dental hygiene. For me, teeth have always interested me. I never hated going to the dentist, and I was curious what was happening in my mouth during the appointment. Also, it seems like a well-paying and balanced work-life type career, which is my main goal. The main reason however, is that a dental assistant and teacher visited my school to talk about careers in dentistry and it just seemed pretty cool to me. That's just my take though, hope you work it out and find something you love :)
I'm thinking about doing dental hygiene as a male I hope it's easy getting in I know the school by me offers some grants since there isn't a lot of males in the field but I grew up around my uncle who does dentistry just dont want to do dental school right now
Quick question! Did your dental assistant credits count for your dental hygienist degree or No? I’m pursuing dental assistant for 2023 through my local community college but I’m not 100% sure if those credits are counted or not towards de tal hygiene
No, not for mine because I went to a private college. If I decided to go to the same college, where I took my dental assisting program and might have counted, but things seem to change per year.
This might be late but I’ve never ever ever been educated on colleges or schools to go to for this specific career can I go to a community college and become a dental hygienist ?
Hey! I’m in dental assistant school right now and going to graduate soon! I’m planning on going into dental hygiene because it is also my dream. Is there a way I could message you privately? :) I have so many questions
Honestly I’m not sure if dental hygiene is the right choice for me but I just find it very interesting. I’m not the best at science and not the smartest so I’m scared I’ll lose my financial aid and end up with no job etc I need to start thinking realistically but I need advice if I should study and become a dental hygienist (I’m currently a junior in high school)
I would recommend you try to become a Dental assistant first. It’s a trade and some of the programs are short enough to where it’s only 16 weeks and it’s not super expensive (typically $1000-$4000). That will give you at least the experience and it will help you decide if you want to go forward and pursue becoming a dental hygienist.
Hi, thank you very much for your video))Could you please tell if it is enough to do Assosiate degre or Bachelor is requered in order to foud job after?
I'm an RDH for over 30 years, with 10 years as adjunct clinical faculty. I would like to add one thing that might help put things in perspective for the students. At the end of your formal education you are going to have a degree. They will hand you a diploma that says so. However, that degree is not worth the paper it is printed on if you can't pass your national or clinical boards. The reason is simple: The board examiners don't care. They don't care how hard you worked in school. They don't care about the endless hours of study. They don't care about how many nights you gave up being with friends and family. They don't care about what you sacrificed to be there. All they care about is what you can show them you can do right now, right here. Your faculty, on the other hand, do care. We care so much that we are going to push you to be as prepared and excellent as you can be. We take it very personal when a student fails their national or clinical boards. It means we failed you. It means we didn't drive you hard enough. Please keep this in mind. We know how hard it is. We also know you are capable of success in your goal to be a dental hygienist. Otherwise, you would not have been selected while others were rejected. Trust us and know we are working to help you attain your goals.
If I have a drug possession felony conviction from 2015 is it a waste of time to pursue a dental hygienist program? Will employers stay away from me even if I get the education?
hi sis I have been a dental assistant for 9 years but am planning to take a dental hygiene class. my question is for you what is the requirement to be a hygienist?
You need to go to a community college and take you general ed courses and the prerequisites which are Anatomy, physiology, organic chemistry, chemistry, nutrition, English, math, history (depends on the school) health class etc….
My question is why so torturoes. Studies and learning environment are never meant to be so torture. Why why?? This is not Phd or doctor or dental surgery. Plz answer me. Teachers dont even speak in polite language with us. I mean 🤥. Never had such a bad experience.
I’m in Ontario and looking at some 18 month RDH programs. Did you do the 18 month program? Which school did you attend? And would you recommend it? Thanks so much in advance!
@@dentalelle amazing that’s the program I’m most interested in!! Would you recommend it in hindsight? The google reviews were off putting but the facility looks good.
I feel that a lot of students became dentist assistance first than dental hygienist. why is that? is it because its easier to get into dental hygienist college courses than going straight for it? I do wonder.
I think it could be because they want to test out the dental field first, becoming a dental assistant is a lot less money than going to school for a dental hygienist. But! Still a lot of money :)
