I happened to be in Phoenix Arizona on my way back to Texas so I decided to stop by Arizona Luxury Coach and check out what they had for sale just for fun. They had this killer 2005 Prevost XLII Royale conversion for sale so I fired up the GoPro and went over it for you guys. I normally make videos about Newell Coaches so I thought it'd be cool to show you guys what the other side of the spectrum looks like for million dollar RV's!
This particular unit is for sale for 350K at Arizona Luxury Coach!

There’s no Newell I’ve seen that I don’t like. Same with the Prevost Liberty. I’m not crazy about this one, but I’m sure it drives and handles great.

Flair and flash in an RV is tacky in my opinion. I do not want my house on wheels to feel that I am at the strip club VIP lounge.

isn't the center bar in the front windshield structural? that's why it's so bulky, but it really adds to the overall structural rigidity of the unit. i think that's one of their safety selling points
@Stapleton42
@Stapleton42 4 года назад
The windshield is two piece but I’m more less referring to the wider trim piece in front of it. It’s like double the width of the actual window seam
@stano5102
@stano5102 4 года назад
Stapleton42 They always say it’s to save expense of replacing a one piece windshield. If you can afford a Prevost and the fuel and you want to cry about the cost of a windshield? Lol. I hate that look also.
@Stapleton42
@Stapleton42 4 года назад
The seam in the middle isn’t the beef. My newell is the same way. It’s the 6 inch wide piece of unnecessary trim they put over it that really gets in the way.

@@Stapleton42 watch andrew's video of what happened when he backed his rig off the side of the road, the flex of the structure cracked his windshield. i'd be willing to bet that the massive beam in the middle of a prevost chassis windshield will prevent that. I guess you have to decide if you want the structural security vs. a better view.

When you open a Prevost bay door you do not use the latch to do that. The latch exposes the bar under it. That bar is what you use to physically open the bay door. Structure give a hint of the function. The latch can be bent when you you try to use it while the bar is robust and suited for its job.

Another great video! Been catching them all lately. Royal Coach, Beaver and Country Coach, Prevost conversions were the "understated" options of the day. Still very good quality and the woodwork (especially Beaver) would have been arguably the best in the business (including Newell, Marathon and Liberty). The big 3 tend to use laminates, much like in the private jet sector. Royal, Beaver and CC tended to use natural solid hardwoods (cherry, maple, oak). Which is better I think came down to personal choice. As you say, one is more traditional and one is more wow factor. A note on the bar running up the middle of the windshield, all Prevosts even today have a split windshield design. But ya they make the bar larger to integrate the shades as your mentioned. I thought early Prevost XL-45s got the 12.7L Series 60, but the XL-IIs had the 14L Series 60. Keep it up! Awesome content and love your mindset and growth!
@Stapleton42
@Stapleton42 4 года назад
Thanks man! You make some good points. I feel that country coach was probably the next best thing outside of Liberty/Marathon at the time. If I couldn't have a newell or Prevost I would most certainly run in a magna or affinity.

Stapleton42 14L replaced the 12.7 to meet the newer emissions standards for 2004. 14L had EGR and variable turbo. 515hp is a stock rated output for 14L, we have two of these engines in Fire Engines at work at that rated output.

Sorry Mitch the BIG boys on the road are the Cummins X-15 635 hp 2080 tq Performance Series, it'll put your Series 60 Detroit to shame. But you can get a used Cat C-15 plus rebuild for a comperable spec to the Cummins, but it's not California legal, whereas the Cummins is.

@@Stapleton42 lol, I'm not saying the series 60 Detroits are junk, it'll last the lifetime of your bus, and with a new powerpackage, you'll likely junk the body before you junk the motor, but beware of pulling anything significant other than a light tandem 20' or 30' car trailer, if you are going to use it as your racecar hauler.

I tend to like Newell over Prevost conversions. The only problem is finding one that isn't too wild inside. They don't seem to age well in terms of interior style. Where as the Prevost conversions were designed a bit more conservatively, and henceforth age better.
@Stapleton42
@Stapleton42 4 года назад
I feel the opposite lol. The 90s Prevosts in my price range anyways. They were always super 90s funky looking. Once you get into the 2000s the prevosts do age well style wise

You’re getting to be a mini Andrew Steele bro. Soon you’ll be interviewing folks yourself. I think you should concentrate more on Newels. I’ve always had a soft spot for Newels, and your channel has brought it out for me. For example, I liked the factory tour you showcased as well as some adventures you had with your coach. Good review. Please open more of the bay doors so we can see the plumbing bay, the generator, etc. I find those are hallmarks of the build quality of the coach. Also, please open the doors and closets in the coach. That gives us a good appreciation for what was going on in 2005. Keep up the good work....looking forward to seeing more vids.

Prevost did offer engine options for the units being built for conversion. Back in 93' when the series 60 was a available, some customers still order the units with the 8V92. I'm kind of on the stump as I'm looking at that year model, and although series 60 is strong, reliable, and great tech with the DDEC, The 8V92 is less expensive to work on and rebuild.
@Stapleton42
@Stapleton42 4 года назад
I know the early 40' prevosts couldn't fit the s60 with the transmission so in 94 model year typically they're an 8v92 if they're 40'. I wouldn't want an 8v. they may be cheaper to overhaul but you won't ever have to overhaul the series 60 unless some freak accident happens lol

I like a modern style without the flash and high gloss. Like “restoration hardware”. So not traditional but not flashy. So far I like Newell hands down over Prevost. Looking to buy dirt coach with bunks with family. $400k range. What do you suggest?
@Stapleton42
@Stapleton42 4 года назад
I am a newell guy 100%. You'll never have the relationship with a Prevost converter like you will with newell. The newell owner community is super tight knit too with the newellgurus forum. If you have your eye on any specific ones and would like them inspected let me know. I am only a couple hours from Motorhomes of Texas and they always have them on the lot in that price range. Bunks can always be added after purchase too.
