Pregnancy prevention around the world has a lengthy history that includes many effective yet sometimes lethal methods of early contraception. Early contraceptive options offered an array of colorful, creative (and in some cases, incredibly smelly) choices that included innovative options in barrier devices, spermicides, and oral contraceptives.

I find it ironic you didn't discuss any Mesoamerican birth control methods, considering the plant which allowed the modern Birth Control Pill to be synthesized was native to Mexico and was used for contraception there. Aztec herbal and medical treatments are the most well documented, since they had bontanical gardens where plants were bred, tested, and categorized for medical and other uses and even sorted into formal taxonomic systems. The tetexquilitl plant was used for birth control for men, while the axoxoquilitil and tlacoxiloxochitl plant was used for both sexes for birth control. Apparently these were pretty common and widely available. Hummigbird meat was also thought to provide contraceptive or abortive effects. Again, there's a lot of documentation so this is just a small sample: Book 6 of the Florentine Codex talks about Aztec midwifery and pregenacy practices, while book 5 has some of that and certain herbal stuff as well, while book 10 has stuff in relation to medical ailments and treatments and book 11 tons of plants and their uses. Beyond the florentine codex, there's an entire surviving Aztec bonotanical/herbal medical encyclopedia, an english translation of it is called "An Aztec Herbal, the Classic Codex of 1552"

Not necessarily. Especially with the addition of the bacteriocidal honey. In addition, the vagina also secretes antibodies, Ig-A, often in doubles, like Oxygen normally comes as diatomic O2. This alpha - globulin is an antibody against bacteria that are introduced into vagina. The vagina flushes out foreign material like the bladder flushes urine. Do not mistake that, though, for the so - called (Balderdash!) mechanism that a woman's body can shut down pregnancy. It can't unless the fertilization process is interrupted. And still, the body has sneaky ways to complete fertilization like sequestering some sperm from an ejaculate for a few days.

Regarding Queen Anne's Lace, used as a backup method of birth control it can be quite effective (ex. If the condom broke, or he forgot the pull part of pull and pray). Take once each day for 3 days. Take one tablespoon of seeds, grind them up in your mouth (it is the oil within the seeds that holds the medicinal properties). It works best if you put just a few seeds in your mouth, chew them into oblivion, repeat until the whole tablespoon has been consumed. According to the sources that I have seen, the reason Queen Anne's Lace works as a morning after pill, is it causes a chemical reaction where in the egg is poisoned if it meets sperm. That is why if a male consumes Queen Anne's Lace on a regular basis, it's supposed to work as a male birth control pill. It makes the sperm poison the egg upon implantation.

I really worry you give people the impression that the withdrawal method is anywhere near as good as whatever research you found says it is. We still get a TON of cases of pregnancies thanks to it compared to condoms-- maybe not in this study you found in this specific country-- it does nothing to prevent STDs for example. Getting it "perfect" is absolutely not as simple as you say. Easy, perhaps, but just bc it's easy doesn't mean people do it right. As a med student I cannot stress how many times I've heard my professors say its a very fallible method and have seen it myself in gynecology and obstetrics practice. In the medical field specifically there can be a big difference between What's Written In Books (or papers) vs What Happens In Real Life. My favorite quote to this day is "the human body and its ailments do not read books". People are different and so are their bodies. I'm sorry but I don't believe that for a hot second. You can speak historically if you want to, but as far as rl goes you might be encouraging people to adopt this method even if you don't want to and I don't think I can ever support that.
@cmck362
@cmck362 4 года назад
He did say for normal people it was more like 81 vs 83% effective instead of perfect use which was 96 vs 98%. Seems like no matter what happens condoms are only slightly better than just stopping before you cum. I've also heard this from other sources so I'm pretty sure it's correct.
@akiriith
@akiriith 4 года назад
cmck the problem isn't the hard facts (which can vary greatly from country to country and not every watcher here is american or english, ie me, a brazilian, so that 20%-ish rate might be higher or lower depending on the place where the info was collected), its the way they're presented. If you say this like "oh, the % difference is minimal", people might be more willing to use the pull-out method, especially those that dislike the feel of condoms. Which in turn will raise the % of people using them. Which in turn will make those 20%-ish people mean MORE people. 20% of every 1000 is something, 20% of every 100 is a LOT more people. It's a method that should absolutely not be portrayed as something people should be enticed to use, even if it has a 80%-success rate as a contraceptive. Especially because condoms protect from far more than just unwanted pregnancies- many STDs can be transmitted... well, sexually, including asymptomatic ones that raise your chance for cancer, especially on women. More than that, in countries like my Brazil or India or Mexico there are a LOT more cases of STDs than in developed countries like in America or Europe, so we'd be leaving a much higher percentage of the population at risk of those! Here the simple condoms are FREE, people can just get 'em on the public healthcare system, as many as they want. It'd suck to have that available and get people still choosing the pull-out method because it "feels better" or "because it works almost as well as the condoms!" :c between two free/easy access methods to avoid pregnancies, shouldn't we work on getting people to use the one that works better? Even if it's just 2% better? That's 2% less people who end up pregnant! So yea, TL;DR: even if it DOES have a very minimal % change between that and a condom, you shouldn't present it in a way that might be interesting for others. First because even if we take that % as true for the whole world, a 20%-ish rate is still a HELLA HIGH RATE of unwanted pregnancies considering the world's population (we consider as "low" things like 1% and less! Even 3% depending on what you're talking about is SUPER HIGH!). Second because if people go for it, that 20%-ish will mean MORE people using it, thus more unwanted pregnancies. And third, STDs and higher cancer risk. You just have to be careful with the way you're presenting information, y'know? :) that's why it bothered me!
@cmck362
@cmck362 4 года назад
@@akiriith You can't shit talk pull out because it's around 80% effective for average people then completely ignore that condoms are also around 80%. It feels like you're trying to only highlight that best use percent with condoms while purposely using the average percent for pull out. It just feels like you're trying to be biased. It's a 2% difference either way. Is that something to gamble on. I'd say yes. You don't try to completely eliminate risk. Just manage it. As far as stds go I'm disregarding them. I'm making the assumption that you'd be in a relationship so you're both clean or you've both already caught what the other has. I guess for you they're more of a concern than for me. You have more stds where you are, but free condoms. I have less stds, but have to buy them.

Good video. The thing that sticks with me is the assertion that effective birth control has been available throughout all of recorded history. I don't know who is defining effective here because at 85% effectiveness per year, over 30-40 years of fertile time women are most certainly going to get pregnant. Birth control (even the pill at 99%) is actually very ineffective and no one is looking for solutions.

You didn't mention the Billings method. It's used by some women in developing countries and some (who know about it) in modern countries. A more modern version is the Fertility Awareness Method. You observe cervical fluid (different from arousal fluid) throughout the month and when you approach pre-ovulatory fluid you stop having sex (or use a barrier method), then resume after the pre-ovulatory fluid stops (ie. After ovulation). So basically you have to use protection for about a week of every cycle. I've used this method myself for over 10 years and have never gotten pregnant. Also, parsely, sage, and mugwort tea are good at making your period come too if it is late, regardless of the reason, pregnancy or otherwise.

It's not as often and you don't see it everywhere unless you're in some of these groups but it's often used in breeding horses. Eventually even without the Infectious properties of Pebbles that aren't smooth and like the marbles are moves around in the uterus destroying anything that may form but also keeping any eggs that might be fertile from sticking to the wall
