Some of them you see all the time. Some of them, hardly ever. Here's our guide to F1's flags. For more F1® videos, visit www.Formula1.com Follow F1® on Twitter: / f1 Follow F1® on Instagram: / f1
LMAO! Even back in 1992, they weren't super reliable and even broke down at their home grand prix (I think Senna was driving)! That must have been the ultimate embarrassment for them.
NASCAR does have some of the same flags but they do mean different things. Green, checkered, red flags are the same. Yellow and red striped is actually used here for the same purpose as in F1, but only on road courses. NASCAR yellow flag = F1 Yellow + SC NASCAR black flag = F1 Half-half black and white (penalty) NASCAR blue flag = F1 single yellow (local yellow, minus the no passing - only on road courses) NASCAR blue flag w/ yellow diagonal stripe = F1 blue flag (except in NASCAR, not mandatory to let yourself be lapped) NASCAR black flag with white X = F1 black flag (DQ, except in NASCAR they stop counting your laps till you serve the penalty as opposed to outright DQing you) NASCAR white flag - no F1 equivalent, means final lap of the race NASCAR green-checkered flag - no F1 equivalent, introduced this year as part of the stage racing crap NASCAR black and red waved simultaneously - no F1 equivalent, end of practice session
(2021 version) *Chequered flag:* When Hamilton or Verstappen crosses the line. *Yellow flag:* When Mazepin or Tsunoda spins. *Double waved yellow flag:* When Mazepin or Tsunoda crashes. *Yellow flag with SC sign:* When Mazepin or Tsunoda crashes with somebody. *Red flag:* When Mazepin or Tsunoda causes a massive pile-up by a crash. *Green flag:* When Mazepin's or Tsunoda's car is retired. *Blue flag:* When a Mercedes or a Red Bull is getting closer to you. *Black and white flag:* When Mazepin does a bit of his typical "Mazepin stuff" while defending. *Black flag:* When Mazepin has being doing Mazepin stuff for so long. *Black and orange flag:* When Russell has an issue which makes him lose the Top 10. *Red and yellow stripped flag:* When Russell leaks oil or water on the track after an engine failure or hydraulic issue which makes him lose the Top 10. *White flag:* When a slow car (apart from both Haas and Latifi) is on track.
+MashiatCOD99 There already is a flashing light behind him as a warning. Maybe instead of advertising on the back of the wing, there is a giant WARNING!! message????
Hamilton's weaving against Petrov is legendary. When I play racing games with friends we arrange funny races where "Hamiltoning" (as we call it) is allowed :D
To be fair, Hamilton wasn't doing anything wrong. He wasn't trying to block Petrov, he was weaving to get him out of the slipstream and Petrov just followed him across the track.
@@David-ud9ju The car in front is allowed to move/block only once, moving so that someone doesn't get your slipstream is a defensive move, Lewis moved 4 times on that straight. The reason for why he did it doesn't matter, it's illigal and it's unsportmanship to move so many times. We all know that Hamilton and the other top drivers bitch and cry on the radio if someone else does the same thing to them. It'a hypocritical since they do it so often and find excuses whie constantly bitching when other drivers do the same thing
Fun to watch sure but incredibly dangerous and has resulted in fatalities in the past. Same reason why you can't speed in the pits or reverse - hence F1 transmissions omitting the reverse gear altogether.
Every time I see the guy wave the checkered flag, I sometimes cringe because I often wonder if he'll end up dropping it onto the track. That would be hilarious to see that happen.
Evolq What's kinda ironic about that is if the Marshall did accidentally drop the checkered flag onto the track, it would almost certainly bring out double waved yellows while a Marshall runs onto the track to pick it up... XD
+Gh0s7 It was more commonly used back in the old days of f1 where cars would leak oil more frequently, which is obvious dangerous on track. Nowadays if a car is running it rarely needs that flag, so it's pretty much never used.
0:41 Formula 1: Single waved yellow flag means overtaking prohibited due to danger on track Also Formula 1: Shows a single waved yellow flag *WITH SC (SAFETY CAR) BOARD*
I saw the “6 years ago” and assumed it was from the early 2010s, I was surprised they showed a Verstappen onboard and when I checked the date I realized 2016 was over half a decade ago...
Lesson 1: Don't forget to wave blue flags when Vettel is aproaching latecomers or else... Lesson 2: Always wave more than 2 yellow flags when Maldonado is aproaching you... Lesson 3: Always wave a white flag when a McLaren Honda is aproaching you...
Yep i recommend this video to anyone who is new to F1...flags are important aspect of the sport and once you are able to grasp them you'll have a more solid understanding of whats actually happening other than just cars racing on the track.
This actually raises a question for me, what happens when the driver gets Black, Black/White or Meatballed on their steering wheel? Pretty sure that those LED's don't do flashing in black.
Checkered flag: WINNING! Yellow flag: Well, someone's sideways Double Yellow at Portier: Is Wehrlein on his side in the barrier again? Double Yellow at La Source: Who caused the pileup this time? Double Yellow at Montreal's final chicane: Who found the Wall of Champions this time? Double Yellow at Baku: Who botched the castle section this time? Double Yellow at China's final corner: Did Giovinazzi botch the final corner again? Red flag: Okay, someone must've really bleeped up Red flag in NASCAR at Daytona or Talladega: The Big One, Part Whatever, at the plate track Red and Yellow for water: Exactly why i prefer carrying things in plastic bags Red and Yellow for oil: THE ENGINE'S BLOWN! Black with Orange Circle: Return to the pits to solve whatever mechanical issue you're experiencing Black flag in NASCAR: To the pitlane for a penalty Black flag in F1: Sucks to be that derp Black and White: Someone's close to a DQ White: LAST LAP! Blue: OUTTA MY WAY YOU BACKMARKER PELICANS! FAST CAR COMIN' THROUGH!
Vettel has no problem saying "blue flag, bluee flag" to other drivers but seems to have trouble following his own advice. In Bahrain 2021 both Verstappen and Hamilton lost in excess of 2 seconds while lapping him. That could have had an impact on the result of the race itself.
