I kinda had a stereotype of a Texan. This, and other media has blown that out of the water. In a great way. They are better travelled, and more knowledgeable. (Mostly, Royals own the country?)
I’m an American, been to the U.K. Six times. What really impressed me was that there are castles that are thousands of years old everywhere. There are Roman ruins; heck, they have pubs that have been open since before Columbus sailed here in 1492. The people were nice, and seemed interested to talk to an American, especially in the smaller towns away from London.
@@neilwiddison6529 Yeah.. (American accent) Route (Rowt) 66 on a Hog would be awesome and I just gotta stand on a corner in Winslow Arizona just to see that fine sight !
@Zander Morris-Coulter However, as we see, there are SOME Brits who have their noses up in the air, and think their shit smells like roses. They are to be avoided.
Definitely need to get more American people to come see Manchester to see a proper English city. London is way more international to represent England as a whole
For sure, spend time in the South (not just London) then move up through the midlands to the North. It's very much like a Brit spending a week in New York City thinking they have done the U.S.A. Internet searches & travel vlog's are your friend.
Thought so. The royal family provides a sense of tradition in the UK. The prime minister controls the country while they partake in ceremonial duties such as the opening of parliament. They also are a very good diplomat as the queen hosts many leaders of foreign countries for dinner.
Most of these comments reflect the fact most of the people (even those who have visited the UK) have not travelled around much. The UK has very different regional cultures, different building styles and materials, different food, different accents and often quite different weather too. Those that had gone outside London were far more likely to say nice things they met helpful and polite people and they enjoyed the trains etc. Imagine visiting the USA and only seeing New York City or Huston... city life is always busier, people more stressed, and while it is nice to blend into a more mixed crowd it is also easier to only ever have fleeting moments interacting with the locals. But please, when this Covid thing is over, do take the time to come and see for yourselves, travel around a bit, I promise you will love it (even if it rains).
I have been to England on seven occasions and I have been to other parts aside from London. I think when tourists are coming to a new country for the first time, the emphasis is usually on the known commodity in England’s case London. As a child of parents from Barbados, I have been able to visit other parts since I have an extended family throughout the country. Interesting comment I get from relatives, I’ve seen more of England than they have and I will take it a step further, I seen more of the UK in general.
@@sistaonthemove I get exactly the same thing in the States... I have seen more than half so far. So many people all over the world live their whole lives in one quite small area. It is so important not to generalise too much... travel far and wide, there is always something new to find.
We luv you lot,our shared history makes us feel like you're more our family than just any old country. The fact that we've fought, bled and died together also counts for hell of a lot 😊 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸
Really like these videos, gives you a nice feeling (As a Brit). Also interesting seeing the older fella feel like the UK is a motherland to the Caribbean is interesting given the history. Final point, the Jamaican girls was killing it
Being English I understand every single American accent. But I guarantee most Americans would need subtitles here in England as we have some weird dialects.
I can't understand deep south accents like Louisiana or Alabama and I used to have a friend from South Carolina who's accent was so strong I had to give up voice chatting with him during online gaming because I couldn't understand a word he said!
Im from Birmingham UK....and when I was in America (gloriously winning a boxing match in Philadelphia) hardly anyone could understand a word i said! 😂 One hotdog seller said,...'WHAT'S HE SAYING? ARE YOU IRISH OR SOMETHING? I CAN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD YOU'RE SAYING!!' 😂😂 I said....'Im from England....we invented the English language!'
It's hilarious because a lot of folk from Yorkshire always say "Oh you wouldn't understand me if I spoke in my regular accent", and then they do it and I understand them perfectly 😂 I don't know if I'm crazy, but I can understand West Country and Welsh accents flawlessly other than maybe some words that we don't have in the states, don't ask me how.
@@trulymcnair2659 the simpsons in the 80s mocked British people’s teeth and it rlly was down to classism because it was the poor people with bad teeth as dental care was expensive. Luckily it’s free these days
I wonder if the guy who made the comment about slavery etc realises the UK abolished slavery before many countries (including the US) and actually led the global campaign against slavery? Also, people seem to forget about French/Spanish/Portuguese/Dutch/Belgian/German/Italian colonialism and that the UK is not the only country with a monarchy.
@TheManMan Slavery is an abomination but it existed for thousands of years before the UK even existed (just look at the Bible). My point was that there seems to be an opinion that the UK is the only country with a colonist/slaver history which is of course completely inaccurate - even politicians in France and Belgium to name but 2 countries have acknowledged their countries' equally dark colonical/slaver past.
@TheManMan Slavery has existed for thousands of years and it was only from the 1800s onwards that opinion turned against it. Nobody gets a 'free pass', but my original point about the guy's inaccurate idea that the UK alone has a colonist past stands. Even though slavery was outlawed centuries ago it is effectively practiced in India and numerous Gulf countries under the practice of indentured servitude.
@TheManMan The United States isn't exactly squeaky clean themselves and most White Americans came from The UK and Europe anyway. The Pilgrims were English remember, and America's Constitution is based on the Magna Carta anyway.
Americans have no grasp of history, unless it comes from an American film...and then it’s absolutely wrong. ...We don’t glory in our past ,we accept it for what it was ..History. We learned from it and we have the pride in knowing we put a stop to Slavery far sooner than anyone else. HERES THE THING ...We didn’t start slavery ..we did benefit from it.... But we stopped it...
@TheManMan here's a guy who knows nothing about history and has to put down a country he knows nothing about. I happen to be Half English and half American and know both histories very well. You are wrong dude, especially if you are laying slavery blame onto the UK as the USA has more blood on its hands, plus do note that their were no slaves in the UK being flogged, raped, or murdered.
10:20 she does have a point but if she is quoting the Megan Markle interview then she should know the "British" tabloid headlines were edited by Oprah and also almost half of the " British " headlines were actually American.
What the British tabloids did to Megan Markle was mean-spirited and racist. I still remember the “Almost Straight out of Compton” headline and the article about how she was the daughter of a dreadlocked African-American mother. It was race-baiting and uncalled for, especially from a top seeking newspaper.
I'm in the UK and feel complimented by the people who have visited here. I think the interview shows that people react to you according to how you treat them.
Americans have such strong opinions about things that they hold passionately , British people have ideas they believe in but with a just sort of let it go attitude. Who cares 😅 It’s not that we stop thinking what we think it’s just that we see it to be pointless forcing it on people. I dunno 😂😂😂
Good Lord, we have amazing cheese. Only this morning i was watching the Wandering Ravens video on things the UK does better than US and they both specifically mentioned our cheese.
@@scrappydaclown797 if you compare the best cheese in both countries they are pretty similar. The big difference is the average and the worst. It is much easier to buy good cheese in UK than US
Americans talk about the british Accent and the Queen and royal family Americans should visit places like cornwall devon and somerset i think they would love
I love it when Americans say they like the English accent ! There are quite a few accents and I think most Americans see the accents from films and people in the media and the Royals of course. But in reality this is mainly London and the South East. Go to other areas in England and you will find the accents are very different - even relatively short distances such as between the cities of Manchester and Liverpool which is about 40 miles. There you will find a huge differnece in accent.
Haha these kind of videos are always interesting, love to see how we come across! To clear up the confusion of what the girl was saying about the royal family and how it's not rotated every 4 years. The royal family doesn't actually have any say in how the country is run, parliament/the prime minister take up that job and it's rotated (every 4 years I believe) much like in America. Technically, royalty has changed families over the hundreds of years due to wars, abdication, invasion and so on but that's the general idea.
Good explanation. For Americans (especially younger people or those who have not traveled to Europe) the concept of a ceremonial head of state is unknown. As you probably know, our head of state is also our head of government (i.e., the president). So, I think there is some confusion on the role of the monarchy here, which you were kind enough to explain.
@@wrecklesscrayon9559They have some ceremonial and official duties like sign laws and such but they are basically a PR company for the UK. That's how I see them.
Speak for yourself, I blame them for starting this extreme leftist lifestyle we've got to deal with now. Not allowed to say what a woman is, doctors not allowed to say someone should loose weight, 'its not discrimination to not give a white man a job because of his race and gender'.
I'm from Uganda & good enough I have lived in both countries for more than 5 years. Both of them are such a mazing countries but USA is much better for me to be honest.
"the tabloids are brutal" True, which is why it's a point in comedy, especially the Daily Mail and the Guardian I'd also like to make it clear: It is NOT always rainy in England. It is generally grey, but not always rainy: 60/100 grey sky 19/100 sun 19/100 rain 2/100 thunderstorm, which is very disappointing
As a real American native American I came to the UK at the age of 14 to live with my Welsh father , also I see no real American in this video no native American at all , also the UK is fantastic free health care great education history culture , when I go back to my native American home land I tell them all about it and they love it
I am so sorry for you , standing by you 100% the irony when a lot of racist ‘Americans’ tell people to go back to their own country when they are actually white European . I’m Serbian , Irish living in England .
@@ng3057 thank you but I've never had any problem in the UK never once had any racist problem if had more compliment than hate hahahaha thanks for your reply 🙂
@n g That's just so British lecturing us Americans on how racist we are. The British people who brought slavery to America. Not the Irish, German, Italian, Jewish, Dutch, etc. who came. And even today with your so called Empire disintegrating due to past & current colonization and abuse. The Guardian March 2023 More than 60% of Gypsy and Traveller people reported that they had experienced some form of racist assault. More than 55% of Jewish people report the same. But we also find striking differences within groups we often unthinkingly group together. White Irish people are more likely to say they have experienced prejudice in Britain than black African people Black Caribbean people, for instance, are more likely than black African people to say they have experienced racism - nearly 50% for black Caribbean people and more than 30% for black African people. Which also means that more than half of black Caribbean people and two thirds of black African people say they experienced no racist assault. All of this from a survey many have used to conclude that Britain is far from being a racially just society. Remarkably, the survey found that 40% of white Irish people reported experiencing some form of racist assault in their lives. This means that white Irish people are more likely to say they have experienced prejudice in Britain than black African people and all Asian ethnic groups: Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese and other Asian groups. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/apr/15/racism-in-britain-is-not-a-black-and-white-issue-it-is-far-more-complicated
I think America think its only London that is England but England have some fantastic places not just cities but villages and towns that are really nice as well
As a British person I wish we were like you think we are. The fashion thing is true but everything else is a bit sketchy. However, our royal family are NOT entitled!! Rude! ❤
Love that guy quoting 'Chim Chimney, chin Chiminey Chim , chim cheroo' from Mary Poppins. So sueccesfully sung by Dick van Dyke , the American who did the worst rendition of a London accent on record !

I have been to Florida 6 or 7 times. And I like the American people, And I made some good friends there off all races. The accent there all talking about is round London, But if you go to Yorkshire, or Newcastle area, or Liverpool, Glasgow etc you will get alot off Different Accents.
Great video, would have been nice if you compacted the simular comments together so it doesnt repeat itself so much. I heard comments about weather and clotted cream so many times repeatedly. The end part with the accents made me smile though!
The joy I receive from Americans being themselves is complete \(^v^)/! I'll always melt in their company I always have, I grew up in Sheffield and throughout my life there, they were adorable (/^v^)/ 🇺🇸🇬🇧
To the girl talking about Meghan, the truth is that we didn't turn against her because of her colour but because she's an entitled American who refused to toe the line. Being a royal is about service and duty and she just couldn't get her head around that. The US is welcome to the pair of them
@William Clark The Royal Family (at least those in direct succession) live a life entirely devoted to duty and service to the country with no room for personal glory or political motivation. This is what Meghan failed to understand.
I loved touring round America , car and bike rallys music concerts etc never had any trouble any where , It was every thing i hoped and more . i kept thinking theres nothing old here ( im from Scotland ) many only 3rd or fourth generation people at the time i was there . most with links to Europe because of WW11, i also found the thought odd that when my grandfather was born , 1888 passed many years ago now , there were still the last of the real cowboys and Indians ,,,,, and in the UK at the same time there was gigantic historic cities hundreds if not thousands of years old here .
In a historical sense the guy who said we are colonisers is completely true, I just think the question is about us as people now so I’d like to think that most people here are defo not for colonising.
English people have many accents from many places many people think we all sound like we are from London and we don't. I live in Yorkshire where the accent is very different
What we don't have good cheese? Lol we have 100s of different cheeses which are amazing stilton is my favourite, but we definitely have a huge amount of cheese. And no it doesn't always rain here, it's not rained for weeks but just rained today.
We have 700 different cheeses ,don't believe what Megan says about the Royal family most people prefer the Royals to a president ( politicians ) .The royals do not express or exercise political opinions
Coming from a Brit, it's plain weird here. The lady is right about the British tabloids; everybody arguing and complaining all the time in the media and the press. Boring politics all year round, then come the big state occasions and national sports where suddenly everyone is best pals. 🤔And as they said in the video, the weather sucks here and all the houses really do look the same.
The lady who said the paparazzi are brutal- she's completely right- they're so mean and get away with far too much but I think they are starting to be reigned in a bit compared to before.
There's far more to England than just London. There's so much more to the UK than England. There's no such thing as a 'typical' English accent, as regions have a variety of dialects and colloquialisms. Nobody says "Alright, guv'nor" (apart from in 1970's cop dramas) outside of London (Landaaaarn).
It is interesting to hear what other people think of your country, seems a lot of opinions are influenced by the media and those that have travelled here in general seemed to have enjoyed it. I have been to the States many times and in general I found the Yanks to be a optimistic, go getting, kind and friendly group of people.
Some people in the UK think England revolves around London. London is NOT representative of the UK at all. It is an overpopulated crime ridden hellhole. To see the real UK get out of London! Also we have MANY accents here not just one.
I prefer our temperate climate, wuthout the extreames you get in the States.Plus we don't have high humidity, tornados, hurricances, forest fires(climate related) that you can experience, depending on where you live.
Our diverse climates allow the U.S. to provide the UK with a large portion of your foodstuffs due to your excessive precipitation and lack of sunshine. And it may be more consequential with Brexit upon you and the war in Ukraine The United States is the largest non-European Union (EU) supplier for agricultural, food, fish, and forestry imports into the UK, which totaled $2.7 billion in 2021
Just as Europeans get perceptions about American slang, accents, etc. in the news, film & television. It is the same here in the U.S regarding Europeans. Here is just one example of many: Ello Gov'nor is a 1982 British movie about the British Taxi. It appears in the episode of the same name. The tagline, according to Rigby, is "Pay the fare, or pay the price

Think young Americans in particular should be told that the Royal Family has no powers, and we vote for a Prime Minister (President) just like the USA), who runs Great Briton. Harry and Markle did not want to work for the Royal family, as is their prerogative so are not entitled to a lot of privileges (security for one) that are paid for by the British taxpayer. Princess Anne Princess Royal, who is the King's sister decided not to have Royal titles for her children, her children are known as plain old Mr. and Mrs. As Harry and Megan say they moved to the US to get away from things and live a quieter life, then the only reason for them to continue with their titles and want the titles for there children is money. And the British press cannot print anything they like, we have very strict rules on printing lies. We have freedom of speech, but only up to a point, hate speech and the like are not tolerated, Trump would probably have been arrested for inciting a riot, at least, for what happened at your capitol building. I like Americans a lot, one of my sisters wed an American serviceman and moved out there in the early 60s and had children, my cousin and his wife and 2 children moved there in the 70s, and their children have married and have kids of their own. Our teeth are in the main very good, although there is a shortage of dentists, we wash daily and our food is very good and varied. And believe me, we do not all talk posh, that's a minority, but your definition of posh and mine could be different. You would struggle to understand me, a Yorkshireman. Have a nice day.
Talking about accents in the UK. There was a program about ferreting in Leigh, just outside Manchester , that they put subtitles on the film for UK residents because the accent was so heavy
The girl who said she wouldn't live there she needs a change of scenery, she clearly didn't leave the city. Go to the countryside and the lake district and you won't want to leave.
