I wanted to learn about Anglicanism so I went to St. George's Anglican Church in Las Vegas and spent the day with Father Gordon Hines. His church is a part of the Anglican Province of Christ the King.

@@SlavaBogu7 i mean, it is, but it's kind like the seven deadly sins. Sure, there are more thsn seven ways you can sin, but they will typically be linked to the archetypes in some way. Likewise, defending heresy will eventually require you to abandon either the divinity or humanity of Christ.

@timlucchesi625
@timlucchesi625 Год назад
@@Baraodojaguary I see what you're saying but that's not exactly it. If a Catholic taught you that then I apologize for you being mislead. (I teach this stuff and I've studied it very closely for a long time). Please hear everything I write here in the most non-confrontational way. .... The Catholic Church regards its teachings as the "fullness of truth" (something which it largely believes from reading scripture and the Church Fathers). But most people who call themselves Christians are acknowledged are in fact Christian, as are their communities (whether the call themselves a church, a congregation, etc.) This is why when someone converts to Catholicism from another Christian church, they cannot receive the sacrament of Baptism (you can't be Baptized twice and the official Catholic Teaching is that those who are Baptized in other Christian churches are as Baptized as any Catholic ever. And since the Bible says that Baptism is what makes someone a Christian and it's Christians who comprise these congregations, then other Christian Churches are in fact Christian. In fact, there are many Christians in the world who aren't Catholic who are better at living a Christian life than I am. But when different Christians disagree on predestination and loss of salvation and authority and the canon of scripture (and so on) on denomination is going to be the most correct. The enlightenment thinkers (most of whom rejected Christian churches) convinced a lot of people that all ways of thinking are equal in truth. But conflicting truths can't both be true. So only one group can be more correct than the others. The Catholic Church also stands by the words of Jesus that he desires us to be one and united, and has reasoned that She (the Church) is that point of desired unity. ..... I'm not asking you to agree. But does that make sense?

I hear you on that, and I definitely plan to continue with the 10-minute stuff both out of strategy and trying to connect with people who don't have as much time or aren't as interested in the deep dive and out of convenience, because it takes an unbelievable amount of time to make videos that are this long.

Fr Hines was so gracious and eloquent amazing! My Mom was from Great Britain and Anglican she converted to Roman Catholic so this was very interesting to me. The sanctity of the sacraments and Eucharist is how I learned in my Catholic upbringing it seems we are closer than I ever knew. In my Catholic high school we studied all other religions in the way you are doing. An understanding helps to crush any prejudices we might have towards our Brother and Sisters in Christ and understand the meaning of the word catholic as universal. Thank you

And I was Roman Catholic and I unpoped to become Anglican Catholic. Why! They demand believe or else on nonessentials! Also Roman Catholics have a saying; Deus est Papa and Papa est Deus(God is the Pope and the Pope is God) which is no different than Julius Caesar who was killed by Brutus Cassius for Caesar trying to be God with the et tu Brute("and you Brute"). When I found this out, I also unpoped. Here is why I unpoped: "The crowning objection to the Roman system was not so much its doctrine in the main, but its rigid regimentation, which dictates every minutest detail of belief, conduct, rite, and ceremony. Some of our brethren and Fathers in God appear to be swayed for the moment by that Romanensian rigidity; against which, as against every attack on the liberty wherewith Christ hath set us free, I remain completely Protestant. But this is too solemn a matter of controversial dealing. It is a matter of man's most sacred prayer; which he cannot pray, whatever book he uses, without the Holy Spirit. We cannot quarrel about a work in which we seek to be led by the Holy Spirit of God: we can only, with complete mutual respect, lovingly try to understand one another."

Excellent video. I am an Anglican, part of the Anglican Church in North America. There is a great variety amongst Anglicans, from very low-church, Evangelical to very Anglo-catholic, like this priest. He is more Anglo-Catholic than most Anglo-Catholics I know. I love his explanations and the way he so fluently quotes scripture. His way does not represent all Anglicans. That being said, there is an Anglican Way, which is represented by the things most all Anglicans hold in common, with the exception of those who call themselves Anglicans but have adopted a form of heterodoxy in order to accommodate the culture.

This whole thing about denominations, what’s right, what’s true, what’s false.. it puzzles me a bit. All I know is that I met Jesus and had an incredible encounter with the Holy Spirit in a Christian church, I don’t even know what denomination. I guess you could say protestant. In a time of darkness, Jesus called me by name, met me, and since then my life has never been the same. I ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and to reveal to me the truth about God and His Word. I don’t have all the answers but just an open heart to learn and grow in my Christian walk.

Great to see this. I'm a born and bred Anglican from NSW, Australia, and it's good to see someone give such a good explanation of many of my beliefs. Something that's a little bit missing is that this is a "High" Anglican Church, but there are also "Low" Churches, which have many of the same beliefs, but less gold and ornate stuff, and a bit more liberty is given in some areas, but also a more relaxed atmosphere, few or no robes and collars, and a more Calvinist view.

@@nintendonut100 Excuse me but the Oxford Movement was in the 1830s. I think he is mistakenly referring to a book written in the 1880s about the Oxford Movement. Well in my opinion Anglicanism in the past was associated with elitism.... I still think it is in many ways. I'm Australian and now catholics make up the largest christian denomination here. In the old days catholics were discriminated against because they were mostly Irish. There were ads in the newspapers for jobs 'Catholics need not apply' what an insult! All commemorations were celebrated in a Church of England Church because we had links to the English Monarchy. I would NEVRE EVER be Anglican or CofE even though I'm a VERY lapsed catholic. Partly because of immigration, now catholics are in the majority and protestants are on the decline here.
