I'm a translator... all my life I've been told that translators don't make money and are poor, and that only full-time moms do it on the side for some extra cash. Boy are these people wrong LOL. Easy 5-6k a month... and that's not even working full-capacity.

This a good job if the translator is translating a well known language, and is common to translate, but a little known language that doesn’t need much translation will earn less.

I am really surprised how lean you guys live. Your annual income is my annual expense, which is why I always figured I can't be a nomad. How many hours a day/week do you spend working and how much of that time is spent acquiring work? The three separate jobs seem difficult to juggle, though I guess one being passive really makes it only two. Thanks for sharing!
Hey! Yeah living abroad is really cheap - £1000 a month is easily enough for a really comfortable life (including the occasional flight). We eat out 3 times a day in relatively expensive places, and live in a nice serviced apartment with a cleaner etc :) We work quite a lot right now, but mostly because we love it - probably about 8-10 hours a day 6 days a week. Having passive income definitely helps with juggling - but I'm also the type of person who likes to have variety and do lots of different things at the same time. Suppose it depends on your work style.
Definitely do more videos about all the digital nomad jobs available. You have a very good on-camera presence. No wonder you get a large number of views. Very useful, candid content as well.

Hi Louise, a word of advice. You're already spreading your risk a bit by being on udemy as well as other competitors' sites, but there is always risk when you're dependent on a platform run by others. A very prominent seller on Udemy that billed about $800,000 lost his entire account overnight and was removed. Setup your own training website. Needn't cost much to do, and duplicate all of your content onto there. Offer pay as you go, or even monthly subscription and you'll build a passive income from there too, that has far less risk.
Hi Sean, thanks so much for the tip. Very wise advice. I have been considering that... but I don't think I have the skills/inclination to build an audience! I do list on a few competitor sites but they don't hold a candle to Udemy in terms of income. I'm also diversifying my income into several other options though like SaaS and currency trading. Don't like to be too reliant on one thing!!
Digital Nomad Girl On your own site, Udemy can't take their cut so you get more. Add the first module of a course on YT, Vimeo, FB, with links to sales page on your site. Likewise, on the site offer first module for free, but here's the kicker, you'll be building a list, your list, of buyers. Each time you create or add a new course, send out an email. But of course additionally you now know what each segment of that list are interested in, which means opportunities to sell related products and services. Likewise, I'm setting up several SaaS offerings, but there is a higher trade off of time vs reward, whereas list building and a membership site can build and build. Sounds like you've got your head screwed on well though lol. Don't forget, 'if you build it, they will come'. :o) Best wishes.
Gosh - now you're inspiring me to get on and do it! I've got kind of cushy with Udemy because the money is so passive, it's made me resistant to putting the effort in to create my own membership space even though it'd make more money. One to think on for me for sure!

Hi! That's exactly what I felt - YT seems to have so many nomad guys that it can be a bit testosterone heavy! Thought I'd mix things up a bit :D Upwork is great for acquiring clients and building up a portfolio but I agree the prices are way too low for you to stick around long. Most people I know just get started on there and then leave. I'd definitely check out some facebook groups where you could offer your services. I'll think on this a bit more and try to make a video! Hi! So sorry Bobby - didn't see this message! Yep I do a ton of research. A lot of them are things I already have years of experience with (e.g. makeup, blogging etc) but I also like to flesh them out with backed up research too. I normally have a few pages of A4 with notes on what I'm going to say in each video. I prefer not to script the videos as it's more friendly and natural but I do have a bullet pointed idea of what I'm going to say :) Hope that answers your question! :)
I've just done a similar honest video. At the moment all I do is RU-vid and have just completed a TEFL. But I'm against this whole fascination with Chang Mai...you don't need to just be there if you want to be a digital nomad

We normally get the 60 day advance visa, and then either go somewhere else for a bit, or do a 30 extension. I'm a bit paranoid about doing too many visa runs so we try to avoid that! Although lots of people say they never have trouble. Depends on your preferences I guess!

Oooo welcome! So happy you came to check out my channel :D I think it's great to have a broad blog that covers a lot of different topics, but for RU-vid it's recommended to focus on just one niche. Worth experimenting with :) Keep an eye on my channel for lots of new videos about how to become a nomad and tips from lots of other fellow female nomads :) Really the best thing to do it just get started! In Chaing Mai there are tons of people who will inspire and help you, so try going there for two months and see what happens! Worst case scenario you can still go back home and get your old job back (but of course that'll never happen!!). Excited to hear how it goes :)

Hey Tim! Yeah Udemy is fantastic - I definitely recommend it. I have taught subjects I already know about but you probably could do it just from researching and making a script. What I've done for topics I'm know knowledgeable about though is find an expert and film them instead (then I do the editing and promotion etc). Good luck and enjoy!

I actually just uploaded today about that so you might find it interesting :D We are UK tax residents, and the visas vary depending on each country so kind of hard to answer! Ah no problem! That's excellent, and thank you. In terms of place I would say Chiang Mai would be a great place to start like you said. I have been there before and its such a social hub - completely missed out on the digital nomad aspect of it though! In terms of job I think any type of technical remote work would be really enjoyable, I think I'd love to run my own online business too but I think I need to get a good idea together first.
Yeah it's funny how the nomads - tourists - locals - expats in Chiang Mai all kind of exist in parallel streams that never quite cross! Sure you'll see a whole different side this time round :) I did a Day In The Life Chiang Mai video too that you might find useful :D I agree - freelancing is a great way to get started and get stable, then set up an online business later when you've got a secure income and more experience/contacts. This sounds like my dream job because in the last year or so I have become very interested in different countries and cultures and have decided that I want to travel the world but I never knew this was an option! I'm 17 at the moment and am really impatient to travel but my parents are always telling me to wait until I've saved and am mature and independent enough haha

Hi! Yes it does take a long time - I normally spend around a week full time from idea to having it passive. I think for most people it would probably take a bit longer... so it's important to think about whether enough people will be buy it. Yeah we loved Chang Mai as we met in Pai and have been dying to return. We are going Thailand on the 17th of May and will work our way up to the mountains so potentially we will be there at the same time. Will catch up for sure if the dates work!

If I were to become a digital nomad, I'd be a programmer and make iOS, Android, and facebook games. I don't think I'd have a chance at making courses because I'm bad at teaching people shit XD. I'm currently learning to code while I'm trying to get into university for computer science. If I don't get in, I'll probably go the nomad route.

Hey! Oooo exciting stuff :D It depends on which country you go to. Most offer longer stay visas if you apply in advance - e.g for Thailand you get 60 days "on the door" but you can get 6 months if you apply in advance. A lot of places allow you to extend, or leave and come back in again... but of course there is a balance to this and you don't want to take advantage! Perhaps it's something I could do a video on..? Where were you thinking of going?
A video on visa procedures would be useful, I know it's not the most interesting subject lol and it depends on which country as to how long you can stay so it's down to you whether you could put something together as it's a bit of a broad subject lol. definitely going to check out Thailand and I also want to go to America and Canada. it depends on where my journey takes me as I'm travelling the UK first, got a place WOOFING in Gloucestershire and then going to Ireland, and Wales.Will be going abroad after that. i have been to Thailand 6 times since 2015 but have yet to find a way to stay there...I usually go to Bangkok tho. Are there nomads there? who do i seek out or approach because there are lots of foreigners there.

Hey Nicki! Definitely it can be harder to differentiate. I think the best way to get clients is through referrals and your network. A lot of mine came from various distant contacts on Facebook who knew I did PR and mentioned it to someone else! Having said that, most of my work is Udemy and our startup businesses so I don't do a lot of freelancing. I'll try and get a freelancer on to interview soon though! What is your work?

Hi! Yeah I can definitely find a dropshipper to interview :) Most won't tell what it is they're actually selling as the niche you find is a large part of your value.... but it'd be good to get an idea from them about how they got started :)
Yes! Definitely. A lot of people have learned from Anton method, which advocates for using Shopify versus Amazon, Ebay, etc. However, I don't understand the appeal of Shopify and just want to see how dropshippers feel about that. Can't wait to see it! Thanks! M

You mention coding and freelance, perhaps you could mention something about the real work that you do, you know, something about the real way that you get paid other than the pyramid scheme.
We don't struggle at all! Although I would like to learn some more (we speak a teeeeny bit) out of politeness. It's so nice if you can speak some of the local language! Most people speak good english (or enough to get by) so we've never had any problems. Perhaps out of the city that might be more of a problem...? Have you been to Chiang Mai?
Digital Nomad Girl I'm in IT right now as tech support but I'm about to start a local grant-funded programming course. she has a passion for teaching at the college level. she taught publicly speaking and loved it. I may try to turn her on to Udemy to see if that interests her. I feel like both our careers could be done remotely. I think she would enjoy watching your videos!

Digital Nomad Girl Oh yes. I think that's a great idea! I think the hardest part of making a tutorial on any media is to understand to process by which knowledge of the subject is acquired and organized.
It can work anywhere in the world! I recommend Chiang Mai because there is a big community of nomads so you can get ideas and support, but Ubud also has a lot and there are many good cities around the world. Of course some cities are more expensive so you might find it harder to live off a small income while you're business grows - but it's really up to you! The world is your oyster :D
Yes after a lot of research I will start in Chiang Mai im into drop ship and web development. Then after I get to know more people and be more secure I then will move to Indonesia. Thanks so much
