↣ Are you a full time RU-vidr?
I work full time online as a 'Digital Nomad' which means I get to travel the world with my fiance (Ed) and not be tied to living in any specific country. I do Freelance PR, teach courses on Udemy (check out my profile here - www.udemy.com/...) and of course blogging and RU-vid.
↣ What does Pauper To Princess mean?
My passion is all about living like a fabulous Princess on a little Pauper budget. I visit beautiful countries, and buy fabulous clothes but I'm always looking for a way to save money and be thrifty!
↣ When did you start blogging?
I created my blog in 2012 when I was living in America. I was thrifting so much that I wanted to start sharing my outfits online and inspiring other people to look in charity shops. Now it's become all about my Digital Nomad journey and what it's like to be a female nomad.
↣ Where's your accent from?
I'm from the South of England but I currently live out of a suitcase travelling all over the world.
↣ Where is your favourite place in the world?
I fell deeply in love with Gili Air when we visited as a paradise getaway, but Chiang Mai is my favourite place to live. Plus of course, there's no place like home (Dorset in England).

Loved it!!!! My suggestions: - Show the courses you have - Show the most successful course - Explain how you make your videos - How long does it take you to upload and release a course - And I saw names of your courses different and pictures of other people. Do you have other people making courses for you, or do you do them yourself with knowledge you have? Thanksss!!! :)

Great video with refreshing honesty and clarity. I've often thought about venturing down the Udemy route and producing my own courses, but I've heard a lot of bad things. Like how the excessive use of coupon codes means that you're likely to only get a tiny fraction of the amount that you sell your course for. There is also the issue of plagiarism, with people stealing all your course content and releasing their own course - rebranded as theirs. But well done to you - you've done tremendously well on it.
@digitalnomadgirl
@digitalnomadgirl 7 лет назад
Yep - all very true!! You need to be making a LOT of sales to make it worth it as you'll typically only make about $2-5 per sale. Got a new video coming out tomorrow about my worst performing courses that you might find interesting!
@andrewmoss6449
@andrewmoss6449 7 лет назад
Looking forward to that! I think some people have already suggested it, but it would be good if you could make a full course about making a Udemy course. Content could include the planning stage, equipment and software used and the production phase. I know there's a few of these kind of courses flying about, but they're not always as good as they could be. I'm sure you could make a decent one.

Good video with a lot of transparency. How do you price your courses? And how long are they on average?
@digitalnomadgirl
@digitalnomadgirl 7 лет назад
Thanks so much for saying! Really means a lot :) I'm going to make a whole course all about selling on Udemy so if you're interested then sign up using the link in the description :) The short answer really is that the price doesn't matter as Udemy constantly discount to $10! So I normally go for somewhere between £75-150 depending on the topic and the competitors. But honestly they almost never sell for full price. And they're normally about 2 hours long :) Are you considering making a course?

thank you, this is helpful and I keep coming back to it... esp the first couple of months. I just posted my course about a week ago and after 6-7 solid months of work, it feels like a fragile time because i don't have any social proof yet. I sure hope that I find some students. right now, it feels that I never will, LOL. I have seen your updated video so I know where this goes, but its important to see your beginning actually. I sure hope to make my $40 in a month LOL but that's looking doubtful. then again, I still have much to do such as my intro video and my youtube channel needs to be updated. I'm finding it hard to get motivated tho as I feel that my course is failing. yet, i know its the most important time to keep going.

I'm not a digital nomad but I am remote/location independent freelance contractor. I cannot understand the digital nomad model. Why work for peanuts? My turnover is £10k a month for one client. I've worked independently for ten years and always been employed. At the beginning I was naturally earning less but it was still about £2500 a month guaranteed. Soon after it was £3k then £5k etc. Every contract teaches you skills and gives you experience so you can charge more. It's quite simple really.
@digitalnomadgirl
@digitalnomadgirl 7 лет назад
Hey Andrew. Can nomads not be freelance contractors? I kind of figure a nomad is anyone who is location independent... I guess it depends how you define things! I suppose by my definition you're saying you can't understand why people would be entrepreneurs rather than freelancers? I agree both have their upsides and downsides! I tend to prefer a mixture of both - some reliable income from freelancing and some longer term or passive income from entrepreneurial work. What do you think?

What is an idea/minimum amount of reviews and enrolled students needed to hit a critical point where the conversion rate is optimised? I was thinking 10,000 students and 50 reviews. I've been on Udemy for nearly a year now and I'm really disappointed with my earnings. Last month I earned $359 with 11 courses available and that was up on the last month! I use the marketplace insights to make sure there is demand for my topic and try to make sure my course descriptions and promo videos emphasise the outcomes of taking the course. Any tips?
@digitalnomadgirl
@digitalnomadgirl 6 лет назад
Hey Eve. That's really interesting. What are your courses? Perhaps they are too niche? p.s. congratulations on making so many courses - that is a huge achievement!!
@EveWilliamsMusic
@EveWilliamsMusic 6 лет назад
@@digitalnomadgirl They're not particularly niche. I teach singing and songwriting like I do in real life which according to marketplace insights are in the 93rd and 87th percentiles respectively. I also teach piano which is a hot topic. I do also teach the odd course on Music Publishing etc. which may be more for a niche audience. I have a couple of non music related courses such as online coaching and pain management though the pain management is free because I don't offer that one for profit.

Nice job with this video! Great info and very transparent. Much appreciated. I would be curious to know how long your average Udemy course is and if you see any correlation between course length and earnings? Or are earnings only correlated to topic?
@digitalnomadgirl
@digitalnomadgirl 6 лет назад
Hi Michael, Thanks so much for the feedback - really glad you enjoyed the video! I guess my sample size isn't huge... but in my opinion the course length doesn't matter much. I aim for 1.5-3.5 hours per course and as a student I think that's what I would want. However, some courses might need to really long (coding?) but in that case I'd be tempted to split them into two! For me the topic is by FAR the most important factor. Good luck!

60 days are too much to get paid, isn't it? companies like freelancer, upwork allow weekly withdrawals why udemy cant ? i know one iAcademi who pay bi monthly there must be more definitely, i believe if instructors have their own bunch of students, they should add such marketplace to make more.

Hey! Free platforms like Teachable are very good if you have your own audience or are doing your own sales. However, I like Udemy because it brings in sales for me :) I don't do any promotion or find any customers myself - I just focus on making great courses and they do the rest!

Thank you SO much for this video! I found your channel today and fell in love with your content! I've been trying to get into online courses for some time and had different types of experiences (with different methods). I found out that trying to market your own courses can be extremely overwhelming for someone that doesn't have an email list or a big following yet. So I decided to give Udemy a shot and as crazy as it sounds my second course made $250 last month :o I am so happy about it! Have a quick question for you if that's okay... Could you tell me what you think about being on Udemy only vs being on Udemy, Skillshare, and other platforms? I feel like your advice on "don't put all your eggs in one basket" could also apply to this? (as in, better to be in dif. platforms than one only?) Thanks so much again for your awesome content, you're a star!
