What do I use my street photos for as a recreational photographer? Why bother at all?

This video is the product of a live stream by ‪@rdphoto2‬ (Ron Durant Photography) where he asked the question, what do you, as a street photographer, do with you photos? He asks a very valid question as he is an accomplished wildlife and landscape photographer who is the only photog that I personally know who actively pursues a business model with his photos.

David, Appreciate the Shout Out on my Channel and I Love this video where you explain the topic I raised in my video. I have a better understanding and outlook on Street Photographs now. Like I said in my video I have an interest in doing Street Type Photography. I just have never seen it thru the eyes like you guys do. You are not on the bottom rung of things. You are one of few that I follow regular on YT and I really enjoy your photography and watching you create that photography in your videos. When I get more time on my hands later this year with retirement, I am coming down and do a photo walk or two with you.

It really got me to thinking to be honest and I just couldn't let it wait till later to make the video either... I also learned that those "one take" videos are all but impossible for me. I was able to minimize the edits but I still did some... haha. I would love to link up with you to shoot I think you are the only photog in our local RU-vid group here (Phil, Tim, you, Ray(he gets in by street cred alone) and me) that I have not had that opportunity yet. We need to fix that. I want to do some wildlife this fall and winter with you as well. You are the king of that genre for sure! Thank you.

My father used to go to the golf course and practice several times a week. He wasn't practicing to enter and win tournaments. He was practicing because he enjoyed it. There is no need for any more reason than that. I always enjoy your photo walks.

My reasons are exactly the same as yours. Pure enjoyment of photography. Plus I enjoy looking at my pictures years later and I can remember what I was thinking when I took a particular photo. My neighborhood has changed a lot since I was a kid and I always wish I had photos of the neighborhood back in the day. There’s a large commercial building near me that was 5 different businesses in the past 20 years from a Blockbuster Video, Citibank, Real Estate office, Chiropractor, Subway Sandwich, now it’s a popup store for the Chicago Cubs. It’s nice to have all that. I never think in terms of making money when I take street photos. Just enjoying The Joy of Photography. Thanks David!

Hey David, I love your video; One of the main benefits of photography is that it encourages mindfulness, which is the practice of being fully present in the moment. When you’re taking pictures, you need to focus on your subject, the lighting, and other details to create the best image possible. This requires you to be present and aware of what’s happening around you. This focus on the present moment can help you feel more relaxed and reduce stress levels. It can also help you become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, which can be helpful in managing anxiety and depression.

Hello David, I do it for mind body and soul mainly. It allows me to get out and see the changes that occur over time. I also enjoy sharing the photos I take of friends and family so they have a kind of memento of our time together in the places we visit. I think they enjoy looking back at the photos in a way. I would like to thank you David for your effort in producing these videos and appreciate the time you spend.

Never really thought too deeply about why I shoot. But, thinking about it I guess because I just love to shoot. And it is some what therapeutic as you say. The joy of taking a piece of history.

To make a "shooting" parallel comparison, to me, why I "shoot" photography is much like the same reason why people go to a shooting range with a firearm. For most people there, it's just enjoyment and the desire to refine their technique to the point where they get more hits closest to the intended target. Seems to me that with both photography and shooting at a firing range, it's just a personally nice feeling when you hit the "bullseye!"

Besides the same reason that You have given for theraputic photo walks which I enjoy viewing also, I look at my grass growing fast and I just mowed it last week. Mannana the Grass I am going Shooting. Cheers!

Hi David, I put my street photography photos on my Facebook page. Cityscape photography at night is my favorite. I like the contrast between the darkness of night and the city lights. My favorite places to do street photography are St. Louis and Chicago.

I love to shoot low light too. The control of the light is so much more powerful at night. Thank you for posting your comment about this, it is interesting to see what everybody loves.

Thanks for being your lovely self and an interesting topic! ❤ PS long time ago I had a look at your website and the pictures for sale. I was a bit jealous because I thought you'd sold some already. You've fallen off my pedestal now! 😮😅 I take pictures to slow down and have a unique angle and viewpoint of things. Our eyes are a boring 40mm viewing angle, so I like wide angle lenses and tilt/shift lenses even more. Afterwards they become a time traveling collection. And it might help my fading memory when I become old (like yesterday). Take your camera and go take pictures with it 😊

good video i do my photography for about the same thing because "i can" just to pass time and help mingle with people my camera is just my way to get outside and move around .😊 Even though i do lesser Street photography because of how people react when you even attempt to take pictures of them!!! Car, Macro and wildlife and now architectural photography is more my thing now.

As for me , lately Ive been doing thousands of Game Photos for local High School sports (not for money) - I do this for couple of reasons , #1 Its building my name up in my area as one of Best Sports photographers in my county and #2 The players families really love the professional caliber photos and will save those photos long after I'm gone !

Yours is ABSOLUTELY for therapy! Nobody and I mean NOBODY goes to the trouble you have to for eagles and never try to monetize that work that does it for any other reason. Whether you know it or not, that has to be therapeutic on a super high level. 😉

David Most of my photographs I have shared with people are on my Flikr account as well as people in front and sitting in my son's Delorean at car shows the car never fails to attract attention with people asking about the car its history. The last time we had it in a car show was In'- Out day at Pomona race day at the LA Fair grounds

My family or friends will grumble because they will need to pay someone to clear out my "unique" (and very expensive!) collected materialistic stuff... What do you think will happen to your digital collection...? Yep, even deleting it will be too much effort, it will be thrown out while still on the hard disk... we're not Tutankhamen the Egyptian pharaoh 😂😊

@@PeterR0035 A Personal Treasures are Someone's Elses Junk! My Mother passed away recently and when cleaning and getting rid of her nail polish of 5 drawers filled to the brim I thought it was crazy that she opened them once or twice and then placed them with the others. Then I realized how many times she went to the hospital and needed nail polish where she bought from the Hospitals Store. Cheers!
