New apartment building going on all over… cheap, ugly… a quick profit to be made. What will those buildings look like in 10years. We are trashing the future of most cities in America.
Just bought this lens for pennies off ebay for a Contax RTS film camera I also bought to replace my Leica MP during service. Glad to know I can pop this lens on my SL and just have one street lens in the bag between digital and film bodies. A "budget" lens in its day, it was manufactured in the same factory as it's Zeiss counterparts...so it can't be all that bad, just single coated not T* multicoated. I just code it as an early pre-asph 28 Elmarit to mimic an ELCAN. Cheers!
Hiya David! I really do like your final pick, though there were a couple of others in the group that did have some very cool parts of the image. I really liked the multi-colored artwork on the side of the building at about 12:20 of the video, but it would have to be photographed from closer in, and crop out the rest. Normally, I'm not a fan of taking photos of artwork (seems like cheating...), but in this case I'd make an exception given that at some point, either the building will go away, or something else will happen that will make that artwork nothing more than a memory.. But back to your #1 pick, I L O V E the faded painted lettering above the windows, as well as the uneven color of the brick work, including the whiter areas. Just makes it look really cool to me. Even the graffiti adds a little bit of interest somehow. I'd like to see if PhotoShop could effectively remove the downspout, and maybe some cropping on the left side of the image, but I think you have a really good shot here! Cheers!
I agree on your choice of favorite photo..The cat in the window was cool...The same thing is happening here on housing, if you talk to them they are either from Portland or The Bay area, they said it was time to leave and I will leave it at that :)
So the problem I have is that when I go on these Video and Photo walks I end up at the Camera Store. Then I watch Yours, Phil's channel and then Carmen Taverna's and I am back at the camera store.
A lot of building with renovations are quick fixes for the new business. So I am going to do the same thing walking for an hour and take shots now and then. I get a lot of stares and most don't care what I am doing. When they do ask what I am up too, You know My answer. LOL! Cheers!
David there are apartments popping up all the Atlanta area. No one can afford houses anymore. Not sure how they think they can afford an apartment either
You dont know how blessed I feel knowing that I was able to secure a home before all this housing stuff popped off like it did. I agree, I dont understand who is paying these insane prices for homes now but it aint the average person anymore.
@@davidsaylors you did a nice job with making sure you were not in the picture and going for a dark background around the cat like you described. Little things like that definitely make a picture better.
I will be honest here, I usually get so caught up in the moment that I forget to take all that into account. I did the steps this time because I could tell the kitty was not going anywhere and I wanted it to be better than a snapshot. Just like you said. Thank you so much
David It being summer the first picture the one with the Umbrellas got my interest. Unlike you I have no trouble finding people during the day Orange County CA has 3.151 million people living in the county. My main complaint is we are the neglected stepchild of Los Angles. A example both Peterbuilt and Kenworth have at five locations each in LA County and nothing in Orange County . Here in Orange county new construction is either Apartments like Chattanooga or Warehouseing inland for the ports of Los Angels ( San Pedro ) or Long Beach the two busiest ports on the west coast. The company I work for is in a previous industrial area I have been with them for over ten years. The heavy towing service that used to be next door sold the land for a multi story apartment complex. Anaheim code enforcement is already forcing us to make changes in our operations for the new neighbors and they have not even started construction because of ground contamination. It's only a matter of time before we will be forced to move to a new location do to restrictions on our operations
Hi David! I enjoyed this video but I always enjoy your videos. They're down to earth and you explain things in layman's terms without all the technical information, that is simple to understand and apply in our photography. I've never tried that method, but I'm trying to take one picture per day. It doesn't matter if it's a cell phone, DSLR, or film camera. My goal is to get out everyday to take photos. By taking OPED (one photo every day) I'm looking for a photo opportunity for the whole day, instead of a certain time period. Great video! Best Duane
I like this challenge. And you are definitely in the right part of town. Gavin Hoey did a series years ago where he confined himself to one place, like Walnut Street Bridge, and give himself 15 minutes. They were always fun to watch!
Documentary photography is incredibly important. You can bet your life the builder or the local authority haven't bothered. Same here in Australia, everything is being turned into dog boxes! Probably the best Documentarian on RU-vid is Martin Zero, please check him out.
Thats a pretty good idea, give yourself an hour to get out and get a photo, I like it. It's a very "do able" thing. My favorite was your picture of the cat, it just seemed to want you to take its picture, and it sat nice a pretty for you.
It really is. In the pro setting, the photog has to photograph something of another’s choosing in a way they also choose. That is heavy constraints just at that. But also they usually have a time constraint as well making it even harder. Good point!!!
Yes it was. I still use socks to this day to protect lenses in the travel bag. I put them into “the lone survivors” from the dryer and it keeps dust out of the lens as well as adding some scratch protection. It also breathes new life into those lonely socks😂
Hey David, welcome to my neck of the woods! Miami Beach is such a vibrant place for a photo walk. I really enjoyed the amazing shots you and Cuban rum captured.
I really like the photo at 0:57 and 3:29 and the crop. Wow, CR got some cool shots. 4:57 , that's Florida. rain out of nowhere nearly every day. I liked the rain pictures. 7:29 is cool! 9:31 , my boss has one of those. It's called a Cullinan. I have driven it from Cleveland to Ooltewah and back. It's pretty nice. You can also press a button in the car to raise and lower the "Spirit of Extacy" ornament. I enjoyed this!
David I have been to Flordia Beaches Miami, Hollywood Florida. Depending on traffic I live fifteen minutes from Orange County CA beaches. Both states have gorgeous beaches with the best sandy beaches in the world. I never realized it until I visited a beach in Europe. Most are private instead of open to the public as all California beaches are open to the public to the high tide watermark and must have public access corridors to get to the beach. The California Costal Commission is very active in protecting beach access from Tech Billionaires who want to limit beach access from the public near there beach homes
Been to Miami a couple of times. Unfortunately always passing through. Never had real time to walk around. I am from Mobile, AL. It rains more in Mobile than any other place in the continental US. We have a saying that you could set your clocks by the rain. You would never be late.
Too Many Toll Roads and Bottleneck Traffic for me. I had fun though! Hard Rock is on Indian land but Love the Guitar Shape Building. Inside is Fabulous. Cheers!
Yes, the G would actually have autofocus. That part is true. Unfortunately though, I only had the AF-D… That is why I was using it in all fairness. I also love the character of that lens as well.
Hi from Wales UK. I have just bought the AI-S 50mm 1.4 it looks like a very similar lens. I love the clicky aperture ring and the manual focus works great on my Nikon Zf. Happy days and thanks for the review.

It is classic Sonnar design lens, USSR's full copy of the Zeiss lens... With less quality of glass and coatings, it delivers a bit less contrasty and softer rendering, with more flares than Zeiss analog... If used with hood, it is good lens for the artistic and cinematic work with a lot of character. The bokeh has classic Sonnar look... In any case if you can get Zeiss Sonnar instead, it is much better...

@@davidsaylors What's that even have to do anything with lens? Maybe all that makes America great, but surely doesn't make the channel look great. It turns out I learned more about lens from comments than the video.
It is one of my favorite lenses and I have a use case for mine with a specific kind of event that makes the 105 the perfect focal length and the f2 aperture gives me plenty of light. Portraits are amazing from this lens too…as long as you have enough room for them.
I have this happen to me also. Thought I pressed record and in daylight I cannot see the lcd screen. Sometimes I hit the record Button twice. You figure that doing a Duo Press on the Record that it is confirming that it is recording. Now if only Lurkers would only do the same procedure on the Dislike Button than that is OKAY. Cheers!
Yep, it can be frustrating for sure. Lately I have been having problems with my audio recorder and figured out it was the cable to the lav mic is broken internally. Hot a new mic coming so I will be back in business soon.
