No, this is not the only straw that broke the camel’s back. The primary semi-official version being Mr Patel’s reluctance to hand over the money government demanded from the RBI reserve chest to the treasury. Then there is big run in about electoral bond. But the most important reason is strictly unofficial and artfully camouflaged. There hangs a tale;- although originally hand picked by the government later the then FM was extremely annoyed to discover Mr Patel has a mind of his own, attended with a little bit stiff habit about not bending his knees.

@Rey1 if something has been happening for a long time, doesn't mean it is the right or even the most efficient way with which things can be done. These "mature" democracies that yyou talk about have a huge and disgusting history of exploiting weaker communities of their own and other countries.

@@arjunkharbanda Not Really, Bonds are anonymous, any other corrupt party say congress could get them through trade if they don't have money in bank. It's a huge step from cash bags, you can't change from cash bags to digital payments. No Political Party will accept it. I see no political party making noise over this. That just shows universal acceptance of it. Edit: No country marvel at India's Elections. It's just a saying. Most people know Indian Democracy from Films like Toilet and PadMan.

Supreme Court Election Comission and we the voter can change we just have to be more vocal about it I am not asking them to use cash there are better ways to collect donations like Cheques , Drafts etc the point is we nust known who is donating to who regardless of Political Party if any other party come to power the will also exploit this. @@selfimprovement7117 Buddy I'm still a modi fan, there are many decisions of him which don't align with me but as a person i still support him.....there are few reasons of it :- He's completely clean, he works for the idea of India. Many of us allege him of doing religious politics but in my view he isn't. Most of his party guys do but he doesn't. Most importantly give me a guy who's more hardworking than him , i swear I'll vote for him, mark my words any guy. Not a single leave in his whole administrative career. Personal wealth almost nil. Leadership at its best. We've different opinion of many of his policies but not of his leadership.
@@selfimprovement7117 although i dont support modi in all his decisions like demonetization, covid wave handling but i will tel you reasons why i support modi nd not bjp that much. jal jeewan mission - earlier there were 3.5 cr tap water connections in rural households since independence now there are more than 7 crore since 2019. more than 8 cr toilets built, more than 1 cr houses constructed,sagarmala,no of govt medical colleges in india inc by 50 perc. there were around 7-8 aiims till 2014 now 6 more have started functioning. jan aushdhi stores are around 8k all across india bcz of modi which gives ultra cheap medicines, national highways in india inc by 50 perc, bcz of jan dhan accounts more than 40 cr accounts were opened . goi trasnferred around 8-10l crore by this to poor. there was alot of corruption earlier bcz of govt babus. now money directly goes to bank accounts nd has led to saving 1l crore of tax payers money in corruption these all are pure facts and not from any it cell.

In America, all contributions to political parties used to be online and traceable. Now they have superpacs where it becomes difficult to trace. India seems to have exceeded the superpacs system

When a friend told me that his brother is a manager with SBI and can check anybody's bank account details, I was shocked. Being an IT professional I know what kind of audit and access measures can easily be built into the system and that is how usually banking systems are developed. A bank manager should not be able to access anybody's bank account details unless there is a legal notice to the account holder or explicit approval. The banking process can be executed without providing this kind of access. These revelations go on to show how poor these babus are with their knowledge and skills.
I am a core bjp supporter, and i think guptaji is right, these should be in digital form that can be traced. And my main concern is if someday congress comes to power they will blackmail the corporates. Anyhow political parties do get money, when there were no bonds money still flowed in to the parties. Atleast it has some accountability and legality now.

It appears that only problem with these bonds is that they are not fairly structured for opposition parties. Remember elections are not won by just money but by public perception about the ruling party. Tomorrow there will be another party and things will change accordingly.

Those who want to pay Opposition parties and Congress, are paying through cash. So there is no trace and no way for Govt to know. Is that not greater corruption than officially paying through Bonds? Shekhar Gupta says on one hand Govt can find out who is paying Congress and that’s why Bonds are tilted in favour of Govt. On the other hand he says, there could be shell companies buying Bonds and change hands to pay parties. How both arguments can be correct? It is clear that those paying Congress through Bonds would pay through some other company and not own. In that case, how shekhar Gupta can say this bond scheme is in favour of Govt?

General public in India have no mindset of donating money to political parties. But party needs money to run. So who can provide money? Coporates, but they need anonymity. It's a deadlock unless some better electoral system emerges.
Instead of focusing on legalized corruption by the ruling party Shekhar is acting as a mouth piece for the ruling party to justify their corruption. There should be system to curb the spending on election, and also put limit to maximum percentage a party can get from the total electoral bond say maximum 50% to have level playing filed for others too...
The claim that bonds are not traceable is questionable after seeing Piyush goyal's press conference as he says, that bonds carry invisible serial Id(hence making it traceable) and issued only after doing proper KYC(hence shell companies cannot simply buy the bonds). Gupta ji the issue is cluttered more than ever now.
It tells us what we all knew all along monetisation was done for UP elections and electoral bonds were for rich businessmen to fund political parties. Money bags will use this to run govt with policy decisions. Why else would one explain RCom become bankrupt but to avoid the penalty imposed that is killing Airtel and Vodafone.

anonymity can still be maintained by keeping intermediaries to purchase the bond enabled with cash and optionally informing the party of the date, time and quantity and location of purchase, this system however enables the ruling party to get rid of intermediaries, it also allows the general public who need not be afraid to purchase a few bonds for the party in which they believe, seems like a good move
Excellent analysis. This do not augur well for the ruling party and was implemented despite strong objection from RBI and EC. No wonder RBI governor tendered his resignation.
Agree that Govt has ways to find who paid whom. That loophole should be plugged. Removing the anonymity brings us back to the same point where the whole process will be done illegally.
If its cashless purchase with KYC norms followed what's wrong? Are any laws violated under this scheme? Information of donors and recipients are given to EC so let them disclose. Secondly Corporates have to account for these donations in their books, shell companies can also donate but their names will be with the bank under KYC. If there is any lapse then there can become a scam. Opposition are shouting "scam" because they have received very less donation through this method. The problem with political parties in India is they do not take sportingly donations given by corporates to other parties and victimize them when they come to power.
In US, McCain-Feingold Law restricted the Volume of Money from Corporations going into Political Parties. In 2007, Citizens United made a Video spending several millions criticizing Hillary Clinton on various issues. US Govt sued Citizens United under M-F Law. The case went to US Supreme Court, which said denying the democratic rights of Corporations is patently wrong. Thus M-F Law was struck down, Citizens United won the case, finally.... This was a watershed moment in Money Politics during US Elections. In India, this Electoral Bond is some variation of Money Corruption in Politics. In US, the amount Individuals can donate is as much as $3700 per person per Election, and Corporations can donate any amount to Political Party. But there is Transparency. People can know who paid how much to each Party and Candidate. India can get rid of Electoral Bonds. And follow US Election Laws creating Total Transparency for the Public BEFORE each Election. Any comment?
Urjit patel ne Farsi main nhi bola. By digital bonds he meant Crypto bonds. But then how do you restrict wallets? In Banks atleast you know, Yeh bank India ka hai ya foreign. But in crypto wallets there is no such provisions.

Bad precedence of changing laws to suit the ruling and not listening to independent bodies such as the RBI. Where is the country going? The response by the finance secretary to the RBI governor points to ignorance of digital transactions. It can be created such that anonymity is maintained while ensuring that only legal entities create it. a.k.a Digital signatures.

"Every bagman taking demurrage on the way!" - That's funny. When the Electoral Bonds were introduced, I felt that minimises untraceable cash transactions. Reduction of cash contribution limit from Rs.20K to Rs.2 K was such a step. The end result is that BJP has cornered all the contributions, and other parties are felling the heart burn.
I will go a step further and suggest that there should be blockchain enabled "virtual bonds", the infrastructure & redemption/conversion rights owned by RBI.
rules are same for all parties..catch is the power ruling party may have in forcing information out of SBI. rest all parties challenging BJP with just 5% bonds is a miracle..
Everything is fine with the electoral bonds except it Should be public and no one should be allowed to donate more than 500k for obvious reasons. Everything else you talked about like money laundering and currency is pure stupidity... It's impossible to use it as such.

Sir I am little confused. First you told, the annonimity clause of these paper bonds can be breached by giving a call to the SBI manager, and ruling party would come to know who is paying to the opponent. That means there is a trail. Hence RBI can follow that trail too. Second, Bond counterfeit will not be beneficial, because it is literally not the currency. Only banks can encash them, and I am sure there is an authentication mechanism is in place otherwise all political parties have started printing bonds and encashed them from banks. Sir, I will be waiting for your knowledgeable insight.
The issue of electoral bonds suits the ruling party & the BJP’s moral teachings at stake. Urgit Patel ( Ex- RBI Governor) was right in saying that these bonds will lead to money laundering. So there seems to be illegality in the otherwise legality of the Electoral Bonds.Electorate / voters have the right to know the names of the donors to the political parties. Transparency should it go for a toss.
What difference does it make who is paying for the political party....? remember its always someone paying for it. If its not rich capitalist then its coming from common men's pocket via corruption. While in first case white money is being given to political party while in second case its black money. My choice is clear, which idea i would go on with.
