Fragrances are wonderful and some of the most beautiful orchids have them. Sadly I developed an allergy to these scents as I got older. So, I am really looking forward to the video you are going to do (I hope!) on beautiful orchids that do not have a scent...or very little. Especially the cool growers. I was scared to re-pot until I watched your videos...my orchids are now much healthier and say thank you!
Always love vids about flower fragrances :) 🍃💮 Having limited space at the moment so I only keep plants and orchids with scented blooms that I absolutely love! My absolute favorites are Oncidium Sharry baby (which I still have to find that chocolate scented one), Oncidium twinkles :) and the one that so far took the 1st place are Neos !! I had a couple in bloom this spring/beginning summer and OMG I already adore how they look, but let me tell you once you smell their flowers you WILL fall in love with them even more! At least that was my case haha It's hard for me to describe their scent, it's like a blend of sweet elegant and summery heaven ! 💮💮 It makes you instantly travel to your sweet childhood memories, uplifts your mood and makes you dreamy :) that's how they make me feel each time I smell them... And their scent is only strong early in the morning and in the evening :) I can't wait to have them in bloom again, and I'm absolutely HOOKED on Neos now 😳 😊 Can't wait for my Vanda denisoniana to bloom as well so I can finally smell it, I got it because of you Danny :)
@Gloria Vargo true :) I have several Oncidiums (twinkle, sweet fragrance) a few Neos, Phal. Kaoda twinkle 'chocolate drops', Phal. Sunny Smell, Vanda denisoniana which I haven't seen in bloom yet and a few Hoyas which are not orchid but they have the cutest little blooms and scented as well .
Thank you for this video - great to learn about the different fragrances possible with orchids 😊 I would add the Zygopetalum - especially the Artur Elle hybrid and its progeny - wonderful scent that is like spring flowers with a hint of ‘spice’ 👌 It definitely fills up a small room.
Time to get the Sharry Baby and the Nelly - you have mentioned their smell several times and now I have to see for myself 😍❤️. Hope you’re having a great time on your holiday
To me the Burana Beauty smells a lot like daffodils to me. When mine blooms between the cheery colors and the fragrance it reminds me of Springtime. Still my reigning favorite cattleya fragrance (that I own and have smelled personally) Is my Akiko Sato 'volcano queen'. I'm not even sure how to explain how it smells to me. It's very strong and can fill a room but it doesn't become overwhelming. To me it smells like an exquisite and expensive perfume that is somehow floral without being overwhelming.
Thanks Danny! I have a cattleya which smells of cinnamon candies and my Mimi Palmer smells of warm vanilla sugar (like the perfume or candle) also I’m super excited today because my lechuza pots will arrive! Enjoy your vacation!
Another one with a great smell is Doritaenopsis Liu’s Berry. To me it smells like apples and mint and it’s fragrant in the morning! And very very easy to grow.
Thank you for this great information. As another person mentioned, I am also allergic to all floral scents and have been wanting a phal with a citrus or fruit scent. I will look into adding phal sweet memory liodoro (love skittles :) Love your vids!
Hello Danny ☺️. Just last night I was trying to find some fragrant orchids online. Perfect timing. I absolutely love the colors on the first orchid. Also, can you tell me what plant that was at the end of your video? The one with the yellow flowers? Thank you!
I have Cycnodes in my collection and I do agree that it smells like somewhere in between a freshly opened multivitamins pack and freshly baked bread. I also have Bangkok sunset, but for me the smell is very fruity, is like one of those fruity bubblegum tapes with a slight touch of papaya and pineapple 😂, Maxillaria for me smells like coconut, but not fresh coconut, more like coconut flakes or coconut milk I do not know if people can tell the difference, but for me is a far cry from fresh coconuts. Also I used to find ironic that Den. anosmum has a smell but it's specific name "anosmum", means unscented, so I went to read and it seems that there are varieties that are unscented, but other don't, you can learn something new everday!!
i heard that the cochleanthes amazonica smells like soft perfume and candies. and you forgot your lycaste aromatica's cinnamon scented blooms. in my collection the aerides odorata is absolutely sweeet ,fruity and citrusy. the rhynchostylis retusa is simply a gorgeous one. the dendrobium moschatum dos smell like musk to me but after a certain point it smells foul a bit and idk i feel nauseating like...then the dendrobium aridang green smells like jasmine to me. the dendrobium black cat butachong smells like luscious jasmine perfume to me. vascostylis sasicha blue's fragranc is to die for it smells so rhynchostylis-yy..and i cango on forever, i mainly collect fragrant orchids. nice vid btw
I really enjoy your beautiful videos and learning the information you offer in each one, and hope you’ll be producing many more informative videos for flower lovers everywhere, so Thank You!😁🙏💕 That said, I’d like to help you with the title of this video, which feels extremely jarring makes no sense grammatically. You're so beautifully spoken that the title makes even less sense after anyone hears you speak English, so I'm guessing it was a simple mistake. “How do Orchids smell like?” should either be “How do Orchids smell?”, or “What do Orchids smell like?” if you truly want to use the word ‘smell’. I don’t associate the word ‘smell’ with lovely fragrances at all, but rather more usually it’s ‘what smells so bad?’. Flowers are usually described as having a ‘fragrance’, rather than a ‘smell’. My garbage has a smell; Orchids have a ’scent’, or a nbeautiful ‘fragrance’. For future reference may I suggest something more appealing such as, ‘Each type of Orchid has its own unique fragrance’ or ‘What scent is unique to each type of Orchid?’. Once your titles truly equal the intoxicating differences in the scent of each Orchid’s unique fragrance, we will all be hooked on hearing the answers even more.😁🙏💕
Hi, yeap you are right I actually wanted to title this vid as What not how, but I seem to have forgotten :)) about the other thing, well.. it's a bit of a title grab, the world of youtube revolves more around intrigue, then giving answers in titles. As long as it's not click bait, titles kinda have to be grabbing, not 'delicate'. Otherwise (new) people just don't watch, it's just how it is. Will fix it a bit though, thanks!
The BEST honey smelling orchid is the Dendrobium Hancockii...but from my experience it is difficult to grow. At least in my cliamte. Its Dendrobium species native to China.
Miss Orchid Girl please help! I have a new seedling dendrobium and it only has 2 small canes, the smaller cane’s leaves are yellowing and I am at a total loss for what to do. Please help if you can
1:10 left at the pot ... is something alive ant walking , cant see if is just ants so i tell to check !!! Also when is suppose to bloom the potirana burana beauty ? thanks
I have a Sharry Baby with a LOT of roots escaping its pot, when should I repot it? How do I repot an Oncidium because their roots are so delicate compared to the Phals I'm more used to. It looks really healthy so I don't want to mess with it if the morass of roots are OK.
