I've worked both. Currently law enforcement. This video was absolutely correct. Cops love good security guards that do their job and properly carry out their duties. It's nice to show up when security has effective done their job to help calm down a situation. Unfortunately, there's not enough training for security guys to understand what they can and can't do. Law enforcement has constraints just like security does. But different constraints. Without security guards, the world would be worse off for sure. Observe, report, and intervene when it is appropriate and safe to do so. And use prudent and reasonable judgement.

If they are talking to you in an unprofessional manner you let them know through professional communication, that you will not be disrespected. People create this false sense of hierarchy in large work environments like the hospital and immediately put themselves at the top. When in reality no one is in charge of anyone unless obviously their in your chain of command. They might not like it who the f*** cares. It will take a toll on you by being passive if it bothers you. If it doesn't then disregard this comment.

Police will look down on you by default as a sec officer, but you can certainly change their opinion of you by being highly competent in your duties. When I first started security, the police would completely blow me off and ignore me when attempting to get their name, badge# and DR# after an incident occured. It honestly killed my confidence and made me feel like a joke. But as I got thrown into crazy incidents as my security career progressed, I made arrests, drug busts and responded emergency service calls that also required a police response, I've earned thier respect. In fact, half the time they show up to my property they shoot the shit with me and try to recruit me. It truly all depends on you. Not all guards are a joke and incompetent in their duties (believe me, I know thier are alot of shit bags as well), it's truly a case by case basis that will ultimately depend on you.

The police came to my house act like they wanted to arrest me, even though I’m the owner and took the felony Holders, they took out their handcuffs and I was like what are you doing? I’m an off-duty security guard and they said I’m not gonna be a security guard for long and then put their handcuffs back in their pocket after the police left after letting him go after him, acting psychotic he kept me awake for three days while I was on duty watching a building I could not, eat or sleep and when I did eat, I would eat at work. I basically drink energy drinks and because I was so stressed out with some type of PTSD. I’m not a doctor at times. I didn’t even drink body mode. I think it’s illegal the police put it in my lap that I have to decide under Castille law if I have to defend myself.

As far as over-stepping boundaries go, and being guilty of "playing cop", that would mean an attempt to enforce the law is taken into action. While security can and many do make arrests, it's for the purpose of securing/protecting. Securing and protecting people is not playing cop, just because the actions either appear similar or sometimes are the same, that doesn't mean they have the same purpose. I always explained it like this to those who don't understand: Police and security are the inverse of each other. - Police: Even though police do protect people, it is not their priority in function, their purpose is law enforcement, and any protecting/securing they do is a byproduct of their primary function. - Security: Main purpose is to secure/protect people, property, and assets. Any function of security into crime (such as arresting/detaining people) is a byproduct of their primary function.
@BalorShield
@BalorShield 2 года назад
jeez.. the only way you can describe the function and purpose of a Security Guard/Officer is "secure and protect". such vague and general terms that can describe other occupations. the Military secures and protects our country's interests overseas and our nations borders from foreign threats. a Lawyer secures your ability to exercise your legal rights and protect them from infringement and suppression. SG and LEOs are not an inverse of eachother. 🤦‍♂️ SG are just citizens appointed by another citizen/private business to "secure and protect" the safety and integrity of their private property and its occupants/customers/employees. acting as a physical presence as a deterrent for criminal activity. Observe and report crimes to Police.

@mikem9958
@mikem9958 2 года назад
@@BalorShield Sure it's somewhat vague, especially if you apply the context of it differently like you did. A lawyer defends his clients, a soldier defends his country...that's essentially what you did. - While securing/protecting isn't as vague as you make it out to be, I do like to point out working security is kinda vague, because its pretty diverse. Some may only watch a monitor, some may only be a human alarm, and others might get "down and dirty" to protect someone/themselves if need be, this is especially true for protection officers (type of security officer). It's not a standardized job like being a cop, where you have a far better idea of what their tasks will consist of, security varies much more depending on quite a few factors. And everything you listed was some of many tasks and preventative measures, not the sole purpose. Sorry, "observe and report to call police" isn't the sole purpose (unless you're lower end, wal-mart/retail security), and being a visual deterrent is a first layer preventative measure that we hope works, but in the real world, it doesn't always work out that way. And by the way, calling the police will have to be done no matter what, if you handle the situation yourself and slap cuffs on someone, incapacitate a violent person, or even shoot someone to stop an armed robbery, police will have to be called, as they are law enforcement. Even private police (Yes, the ones who are real commisioned police officers) have to call the police, because someone's gotta go to jail and/or file a report with the local police department of the area. - So, not all of security is the same, you're just trying to throw salt at the entire security field, because you can't grasp that "private citizens" don't need to be fucking cops/given police powers (which in some cases they do)/work for the government to actively protect people/property/assets. And yes, they are the inverse of each other, that is exactly the reason security exists to begin with.
@mikem9958
@mikem9958 2 года назад
@@BalorShield - And to add, anyone doing real security work, not low-grade wal-mart/retail/mall security (no offense to those who do), will be securing/protecting in every sense. They'll be checking for hazards in buildings and making maintenance reports accordingly. They'll also be training in or eventually be training in anti-terrorism, be certified in CPR/medical emergency etc.

I know this is late for this video. But in honestly like you said, its a love/hate relationship, but that depends on how the guard does their work. like you said, guard stays in their lane and do their job, stop jumping into something that they have no rights to be in, let the officers do their investigation. There are soo many factors into this that make it hard to say one thing and then another.

It depends on the state. I work security in California and South Dakota, armed everywhere. In CA it was observed and report unless your life or health on the line only, in California we were specifically told that we can't protect others. In SD, I did everything "hands on", we arrested people, and we testified in court just like cops would. We only had one cop who had problem with us, that cops was reprimanded. We did end up being in shorts fired situation, look up "grand gateway hotel shooting" also you can look up "native sun news version" where a family of diseased name is all. Anyways in that one, cops did drop the ball when it comes to life saving measures. We were doing everything we could to save the guy, but cops actively refused to get aed, cops said he was already dead, we kept going on CPR, mostly chest compressions and gsw patches. When fire department arrived, they found pulse, (we did too before that) fire department told cops to get out and joined us in life saving measures. According to family of the victim, we did extend his life enough for him to wake up and testify with a yes or no buttons. Also later we found out that cops didn't have basing life saving measures trainings, the only thing they were trained is to help themselves with TQs. Anyways, depends on the state, what security guard can and can't do, also it depends on the insurance policy

As stated by my professor at university he stated security is a critical component in the criminal justice system but just expect recognition for it. The big issue most people in law enforcement have from my experience is 1. They get involved in things that are not their business. 2. Most do not know their job or have a working knowledge of the law.

Well many people in the security industry mostly those who are wage earners, failed to understand the difference between a police officer deputy sheriff highway patrol officer and what they're doing is he security guard. Security guards are employed by a business that is licensed by the state to provide security and protective services to the public. Police officers law enforcement people or as some call it peace officers are employed by a municipality, a county, or a state agency such as the highway patrol or state Bureau of Investigations. Security guards are assigned to a particular location such as a warehouse a housing tract a construction site as a condition of insurance coverage their job is to observe and report contact the police, or fire department, as the case may be. As a retired police Sergeant with over 26 and a half years on the job I have encountered a wide and diverse group of people employed by the security industry some who I felt were wasting their time and should actually put in an application, police officer, I have bet those who have been rejected by a police department and are doing this type of work because they felt that this validated their need to be in a uniform carrying the gun looking important. Then there are those that really scare The Living Daylights out of me. At a time when wages were very low and we're talking about the 70s 80s and 90s, I would run into a uniform security guard who had everything and I mean everything that a police officer would carry the same firearm the same ammunition the same leather gear the same type of uniform even a bulletproof vest. I just wondered how in the hell this person unless they're living with their parents were able to survive and be able to buy all of these things it was really scary. And of course there was one of these types of individuals that was carrying a Model 29 Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum with Magnum ammunition oh my God. There was a security guard that was working a Mexican bar in Los Angeles we had to respond because of a fight that ensued and while we were talking to the security guard I noticed that they were wearing a tactical vest that was used by SWAT hearing not only a 45 automatic but a backup weapon and we unfortunately had to arrest him for carrying a concealed weapon. One of the basic things that you should consider is the fact of errors and omissions or liability people who work for City County state or federal agencies are immune in some cases from civil liability however if it does go to court they're represented by that City attorney County attorney Were Us attorney's office. You on the other hand you're employed by a private company who may or may not have liability insurance but I can guarantee you as soon as your employer can figure out a way to point a finger at you in your misconduct you're going to be fired and then you're going to be on your own.
@defcon3security782
@defcon3security782 3 года назад
I could not agree with you more everything you said was spot on I would say however that I do wear a tactical level 3 vest because the incidences I run into have such a propensity to turn into something really bad and at the end of the day I want to go home to my family...

The majority of police officers do look down on security and it simply is what it is. 🤷‍♂️ There is a stigma and stereotype on this line of work that will never go away unfortunately. Anyone in security is going to have to get some thick skin with a quickness and realize that in the eyes of the majority of the general public and your LE peers you're either a wanna be who couldn't make it into police work or a goof who couldn't get any other job. We all know that is not the case for everyone in this line of work but that is just the very blunt honest truth of this particular topic. Seek and invest in good training. Buy good equipment. Present yourself in uniform professionaly. Act and speak professional. Conduct your daily duties as if the company owner and property manager are standing right beside you. Do not try to enforce state law. Your role is to protect your client and their property. Do not go looking for trouble or start hunting for shit to get into. If you want to be a cop, then join a department. If you can't become a cop. Do NOT try to live a fantasy LE career through security.

I had a major situation at my post where i had an illegal immigrant coming into my casino and began running rampant throwing chairs at myself, my supervisor and began assaulting some patrons even grabbing a lady at the bar. In these situations you should pursue that person until the person leaves you property, you gain compliance, or the cops get there. Thats just my take on the chasing thing

Well, everything he said is just a general opinion, it all depends in the state that you are licensed and providing security. The state of South Carolina, by state law, grants security arrest powers like a deputy sheriff for the purpose of enforcing state law in the property their providing security. If security performs an arrest the responding police officer is just a police transport NOTHING ELSE. The police is no required to investigate if probable cause was met nor should question the guard. Officer would not take the report either, security would be the one filing the affidavit for probable cause for the arrest and would be the one dealing with court and the DA for the prosecution, the police is just a police transport. That’s South Carolina y’all Now in Florida, which is the state I do security, we don’t have detention or arrest powers like South Carolina. We have the same “citizens arrest” power that every citizen have.Only under 3 exemption we are lawfully allowed to perform detention by state law and qualified immunity if done so in compliance with the law but in general, nah we don’t get any Authority. Personally, I don’t call the cops unless is worth doing so and even when a called them I don’t care what they do. I just provide the info I have and wait for the event or case number, don’t care if they do something or not, all I care is that I’m cover from my end and my company. I’ve seen guys trying to school the cops on what to do and even telling them what to do, and that my friends is completely wrong. They start not to like you if do that so. Bottom line is, everything he said in the video is right but it only depends on which state you doing security.

It was never my ambition to become a police officer my goal is to start my own security company and call it defcon 3 security I just don't like working for people I like working for myself and owning my own business also with becoming a police officer there is a lot of paperwork every time you have an incident you have to write a detailed report I hate writing papers even as security at the end of the day when we have to write a report of everything that happened that's one of the most difficult parts of the day for me you will never become a millionaire as a police officer but if you start your own business there is a small chance that that could happen I'd rather go for that small chance

TBH you can’t really know what one thinks of security or anyone in general. I mean, I’m an armed guard myself and I see some guards that go overboard with buying gear and clothing looking like SWAT members with things not needed or issued to them. Even cocky attitudes in which many shouldn’t be working security. Some people I refuse to work with myself. Funny thing, it’s usually regular guards that only have the State license required training and nothing further I’ve noticed. Sorry but I don’t believe that police officers let a security guard intervene in a police matter especially something like that. Unless you have training and work a sector of security that by law gives you certain powers of a police officer and the LEOs know that, then that’s different, maybe. Retail, wearhouse, restaurant/ bar type of guards, naw.

If I'm an armed guard and there is an active shooter I'm not waiting around like the cops in Uvalde I'm taking my shot! I've seen your other videos talking about the legal actions I can face like murder charges and what not but thats why we have USCCA and it is worth that trouble if I'm actually saving lives by taking out an active shooter. Well, anyways I love your videos love the content and love yo hear you talk even when you ramble on lol I'm hoping to become an armed guard maybe drive an armored truck

Cops are lazy. At an apartment complex I called in a domestic disturbance. The cop was asshole. He told me to call in an unknown problem, next time. He wanted to decide if the problem was worth the paper work. He wanted to blow off calls. The next time I tried to call in an unknown problem, the call taker wanted more information than an unknown problem & wouldn't send the police until she got more info. Another time dude was walking from the middle where the building are to the parking lot. He looked suspicious, he had on an orange thick windbreaker tied tightly at the wast & a bunch of bulges around the wast, which didn't look natural. I got out of the patrol car to make contact & he ran hopped the stockade fence. I heard something clatter on the ground. I hoped up the fence to see dude walking back to something on the ground. He saw me & ran with out picking it up. I recovered a car tape deck with the dash vinyl around it. I called. The cop didn't believe me because of the orange jacket & the tape deck could have come from any where. I told the cop, dude was breaking into cars stealing tape decks & putting them in his jacket to hold them. They checked a few cars in the front lot & didn't find any thing & blew me off. Next day my boss said the manager said a bunch of residents said their cars were broken into. That's the cook county sheriff department for ya!

I do a lot bodyguard work as well and pi work my deal is I don’t like city police there lazy there fat and I hate it ... I love working with dps troopers they are so professional... I’ve gotten to the point we’re I don’t work Secuirty in Certain cities because the pd is just so shity at there jobs and it puts you in a bad spot I’m a little biased and a little jaded because I have quite a few years and Security I’ve seen good police officers and very bad police officers just like I’ve seen very good security officers and very bad security Officers ... secuirty is not for everybody... ... A good practice that I tell my officers as once the boys show up and give your statement let them handle it ...

Defcon 3 Security yes sir so true.... lol i think it funny they will be such a dick but then they find out you have off duty spots for police officers to work extra jobs then all the sudden your there best friend . Secuirty is not for everybody you have to have tuff skin .... I think my biggest deal about lazy police officers is when you constantly had issues and try to get somebody criminally trespassed and they will refuse to do it because they don’t want to do the paperwork .... now I am not saying all city police officers are lazy and I work with some great guys from different city departments but for the most part I just prefer to work with DPS troopers .If you actually look at the training that you get when you get a Tcole or peace officer license most barbers have more training than police officers and it’s even worse in the security industry .. sometimes it blows my mind how naïve some security and police officers are .

Um observe and report. Thats it. Why are you chasing, detaining, and putting your hands on citizens. If you see something, observe if its criminal call the police. Security is not even close to police or powers of police. 99% of security want power over others. And cant for numerous reasons. I really have a hard time as it is to respect police, do you honestly think im going to respect a security guard whos not a cop thats on a power trip.. remember your not above anyone, Security guards are wanna be cops but never will.. Keep your hands to yourself unless life, or property is being at risk or stolen. And what ive seen, Allied security is the bottom of the totem pole not one security guard knows the law or the constitution. So me personally I would never speak to someone who thinks they have authority over me unless I'm hurting someone. Then maybe deescalate the situation until Real Cops come..

@@Texasmilitarydepartmentvid9654 I never said I’m homophobic and I never said I don’t like homosexuals. It doesn’t happen everywhere but it happens when there are homophobic ppl. I wear skimpy outfits in the Summer and I walk flamboyantly most of the time.
