Just remember homeowners,salesman coming to your house equates to you getting an extremely high estimate and no guarantee of a quality job.Use a small independent recommended contractor whos not going to tack thousands of dollars on to the estimate.

Sales is a job just like any other one in the trade. Someone have to do accounting, some marketing and someone install. It just like saying: don’t buy burger from cashier, go to the kitchen and buy it from someone in the back it’s cheaper. Sales people in roofing are cashiers in fast food: you have to connect the dots. No roofing company can be successfully if persons who installs also sells and does bookkeeping. It’s only asking for trouble

In addition, at the end of the day it's our job as contractors to do what's right for our customers. In this industry it gets forgotten by some larger companies sure but that salesman is far more often than not going to do what they can for their customers. If it's an insurance claim that dramatically changes things because guess what, your insurance company doesn't care about your leak or missing shingles, they care about your premium. A contractor is the only line of defense for homeowners against insurance claim denials.

Love your videos. How many leads do your salesmen get per day/week. What is their closing rate , how do you know when to hire more salesman ?

2-3 leads per day. 40%-50% close rate across the board

I've ran a company in this industry and the only ones who make money are project managers and owners....unless a sales rep sees it from beginning to end they are getting ripped off.

How much do salesmen make per wk and where does the commission come from when a salesman sold the job? Do they get their commission for the company's profit or the job they bid on?

Depends on if it's a retail or insurance claim job. If a storm hit your house you want to call a contractor before filing a claim. Therefore salesmen often prefer these jobs because insurance checks don't bounce. Bids for non-insurance claims are often set to a minimum for profit and overhead by the company and salesmen only make money on the profit. That's why this guy dislikes gutter repair. Virtually no profit. I've made $2 on a job that I spent hours on, and $1000's+ on jobs I spent 30 minutes on. Depends on dozens of factors.

Had a roofing company come out and tell me he couldn't give me a estimate unless wife was home , apparently if I agree to job and she says she didn't agree later he may not get paid

Depends. We always focused on leads, some companies don’t like to invest and rely on sales reps doing most of door knocking

A true salesman would prefer to create their lead. They don’t mind making the magic! And they certainly don’t mind getting properly compensated for it either! Unfortunately, within today’s workforce true salesmanship is rare to come by.

@@RoofingInsights3.0 then u let them leave and keep the pipeline loaded with people behind them. Homeowners do not buy a roof because of a great salesman they buy because of trust, value and process find humble, smart, good speaking people with a good appearance and teach them not to sale but to be a advocate and listen and advise the homeowner. That's why u pay salary commission pay is outdated and overrated.
