Ive never been diagnosed with any speech impediment but I have noticed during my adult hood , talking to strangers I find myself stuttering. I don’t think it’s actually a speech impediment but more of a nervous response
yeah same here but im 16. its kind of weird, i noticed i started getting speech issues around a year ago. its not really stuttering at all but its more me getting my words jumbled up to the point i occasionally need to repeat myself like 3 times and it happens every 3rd of fourth time i talk to someone im scared around. id say its not even worth mentioning but its gotten to the point that i avoid talking to people im nervous around so idek.
@@AllytheGumbydon’t start nurturing the habit of abstaining from people because if you continue doing that your brain will build a habit of stuttering. Face people and talk to them don’t abstain, I’m talking from experience
i have mostly prolongation especially on st words like "state" or "street" and i usually like swipe my left hand across my face from up to down and it for some reason helps me get it out
Thanks for the video! I’m trying to write a character that stutters, so this is really helpful. One question, is it possible for people to have 2 or all 3 types of stutters? Like for example, someone who stutters usually repetitions and blocks while stuttering.
When i was a child i struggled with repetitions. Now its just the occasional prolongations and blocks. Tbh most times i choose to stay silent because of the fear of the prolongations coming out when i least except it. When you see most people around you speak so fluently without any difficulties in their speech, it makes some people like me more quite.
I fully understand this feeling also … but remember take your time cause your thoughts and feeling deserve to be heard … even if it takes us a bit longer to get them out!
When I read out loud I don’t stutter, when talking I stutter if I’m not calm or talk slow I never repeat a word I have a block and my eyes wink kinda fast sometimes
Hey could you please tell me what kind of stuttering it is when you think of some words in your mind e.g present and when you need to speak you cannot speak the word couldn't come out from ur mouth
I think i have the last 2 ones, along with secondary behaviors like avoiding eye contact and changing vocal pitch… my family bugs me about it all the time 😅
Hi 😊 Same … I click my tongue sometimes when some words are getting stuck and my head Rarely now but it would shake when I would have a block sometimes nothing comes out … not a brief pause … it’s almost like I’m holding my breath.. I repeat and hold letters!!
I went to a speech therapist when I was a little kid for a lisp and stuttering, and I still have a stutter all these years later 😅 it's definitely not as pronounced as it used to be but of course I still notice it

Is it still stuttering if instead of repeating the first sound/syllable of a word, you repeat the whole word? Like in a sentence, "The red white fox that that that jumped over the fence."
