Hey! Just looking to possibly get some help! I'm a beginner rider, been on the slopes 4-5 times and think getting my own board instead of rentals will help build my confidence. Looking into the Capita Pathfinder Reverse Camber for catch free feel, what do you think?

If you want an easier, catch free, floatier feel go with the Flying V. If you want a more aggressive, snappier feel go with the camber. One isn’t better than the other it’s really just personal preference.

Hey, not sure if anyone will see this- I'm looking to get a new board but I've only ever ridden 1 board so I don't know which style I will like 🤷‍♀️😰 I also don't know any details of the board except it's M8trix Swirl or something. I can't find anything online at all about the brand/company. My board is 5 years old so when I look at it it just looks flat and it's very stiff... so I don't know if it was made that way or if it's the age. I think their boards are pretty affordable-priced, so no idea if they're made for beginners? I'd say I'm intermediate or beginner-intermediate ? I've snowboarded for 5 years but haven't gone as much after the 1st year. I also tore my ACL last year so I'm a bit nervous 😅 I tore my ACL trying to ski though, not from snowboarding, but it still scares me 😅 I guess what I'm trying to say is I dont't know my skill level because I thought I was intermediate but the whole ACL surgery thing is making me hesitant and scared so I feel like I got kicked back several years 😰 also, I hate speed 😅 I like to go slow but it seems my board has been getting slower and slower, to the point where it barely moves on green slopes if I'm doing my turns 😰 I also had this issue where it feels like the edge is cutting into the snow at slow speeds. Dunno if that's a skill issue or if my board is just old ... Anyone have any advice on what profile might be best for me ? The major thing is I've only ever ridden 1 board so I have no way to compare 😭
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 4 месяца назад
I just looked up the company M8trix snowboards and it seems like they are/were some sort of off-brand making inexpensive boards where performance is definitely not a focus in the designs. That being said it seems like you could really benefit from a softer, beginner/intermediate style board with some rocker in the tips to give you some confidence having a catch-free feel. One thing that could help a lot too is to check out our "SHREDUCATION" playlist. It has lots of helpful video to help you understand all the basics about snowboard gear to help educate you to be able to make the best purchase for you and your riding style. -> ru-vid.com/group/PL8JMe421lgwHMdNlp7e_m_Nrr1AXqZtBv&si=hIANTKeirHIggNwd

HI! Thanks for the video. I have a question. This is my third year doing snowboard, this season ive been using a hybrid board (renting), then i had to change it and got a flat board. I coudlnt get any turns correctly and my control on the board was nothing compared to what ive been doing with the hybrid one. Is there an explanation? I found it hard to turn, i felt i had to put a lot of energy on the turns, which felt unnatural from what ive been used to. Thank you so much again! ^^
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 2 месяца назад
@@urielsosavazquez5384 it really depends on the specific boards you were riding. But right off the bat the hybrid boards are usually going to be higher performing boards with the better materials inside the board that feel more lively. Also just the hybrid shaping gives the board a little more “zing” in general. Flatter boards (especially when they are rentals) are usually going to be lower end so not as quick feeling under your feet.

@urielsosavazquez5384 2 месяца назад
@@PeterGlennSports oh ok! Makes sense, thank you so much. I also noticed that my boots were kind of loose and out of the board so maybe that plus the type of the board affected my riding? Either way thank you so much for your quick and useful reply! 🙌🏻

Hello peter. I’m looking forward to get a new snowboard. Horizon or Cadet from united shapes brand came as options since they (from what ppl are saying) are super versatile boards. Only thing is, I never rode camber profile and I’m not sure I could handle them because I’m not sure of my riding level. I’m for sure not a beginner but since I’m not versatile as well I wouldn’t say I’m an advanced rider. Let’s then say I’m intermediate/advanced that lacks of versatility because I’m riding alone and didn’t have opportunities to explore more yet. I’m mainly riding slopes and groomer. Can go down in steeps terrain easily. Can do big or smaller turns. Not a bomber. Sometimes switch but mainly directional. A bit of jump but no park. A bit of butter (want to get deeper in that discipline). The only issues I have come from those fake moguls slopes at the end of the day. I’m riding around 15/20 days each season, more if I can. Riding for around 10 years now and want to commit a bit more and learn in different terrains. Would you say camber profile is THE PRECISION and no forgiving at all and wouldn’t match my rider profile or should I be able to manage it ? Horizon is rated 5/10 stiffness and cadet 6/10 if it helps. Or maybe you know these already :) Thanks for answering !
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports Месяц назад
Sounds like you are going to want a traditional all mountain board, especially if you are wanted to get into butters a bit more. Most of the all mountain/freeride boards are going to be a little stiffer and if you are not riding faster down the hill you won't need the stiffness anyway. As for the profile its really up to you, like Matt said in the video they ALL work, its just a matter of what you prefer. Me personally I like the easier feel of a board with some rocker in the tips like a Capita DOA, or Burton Custom FV. Even the boards that have a camber to flat in the tips like the Burton Process camber with their PurePop profile still give that feel. At the end of the day Id stick to a tried and true all mountain shape with a medium flex and stick with what ever profile sounds best to you.
@quentinbdt2724
@quentinbdt2724 Месяц назад
@@PeterGlennSports thanks for your complete answer. I asked because I know camber profile is more recommended to advanced rider since it’s precise and catchy and wanted your opinion about this. As for the board, United Shapes Horizon is classified as an all mountain freestyle board with medium flex. I then should be fine with this right ? Or you still think it would be too much of a board to ride for me ?
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports Месяц назад
I just looked up the Horizon and it looks that it is not a full traditional camber board. It seems to have a little rocker in the tips so it’s not going to be as aggressive as you might think.

I had a rocker phase lol, just when the first skate bananas came out. But going big in jumps was a nightmare for me. Too much lack of control approaching the kicker. Although it was amazing for powder. I came back to the camber because I tried flat and I didn't like it, except, again, for pow. But Never Summer's profiles are a whole new level. I fkg love them. I guess it's not only their profiles but also their construction. Those boards work amazing at every terrain. At first they can look weird, even ugly (although to me they are candy lol), but once you try them... Well, at least for my riding. But yeah, rocker and flat for pow is just perfect.

Nice video, I am currently in decisions for the burton process flying- v or camber. My ride is slowly transitions into intermediate, the process camber has an early rise does this make it more catch free? My ride is not agrressive so I cant decide if I should pick the camber or flying v
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports Год назад
Yes, having the flat in the cambered version does make it catch free so that is something both bends will have in common. The biggest difference between the 2 is the aggressiveness of the ride. The cambered version will be a little more aggressive especially in and out of turns and the Flying V will be a little smoother. It sounds like you might benefit from the from the Flying V right for your riding style -> www.peterglenn.com/search/apachesolr_search/burton%20process

I'm an intermediate rider, and I've basically only ridden camber boards in my life (other shapes just weren't a thing). You kept saying "catch-free feeling" as if catching an edge is a constant issue; is there any benefit to rocker profiles once you've learned how to run flat-based properly? I just never see any other advantages mentioned for them (except the pow float you mentioned at the end).
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 9 месяцев назад
That’s the one thing about traditional camber is you can’t ride flat based. With the contact points being forced down into the snow the board always wants to be on edge. You may think you’re riding flat, but you are on your toes or heels a little bit. Having the contact points slightly lifted (whether it’s with some form of rocker or 3D shaping) gets them up away from the snow and you can truly ride flat. It makes the board noticeably faster on those long flatter runs, easier feel when switching stance or buttering, and of course aids in float.

I’m a new boarder. As in- never made it halfway down the bunny trail - if I could get standing. But I’ve started regaining strength from the surgeries and injuries of my 54 years, so I’m praying things will be different this time. I would like a board that will help me to learn fast and give me room to progress. I have studied videos, reviews and spec sheets and have found a few that I’m interested in but am not sure they are right for me. I like a true twin with zero setback. 1- GNU GWO. 2- Rossi Meraki. 3- Nidecker Elle. 4 - NS proto. 5- Arbor Cadence, Forum, and Ethos. Could you please advise? If not these then which would you recommend ? I won’t be going through trees (on purpose) any time soon. No tricks or jumps. Just learning and progressing to regular groomer riding. However, I do like speed so that might be in my future riding! I have an opportunity to get the GNU at a great price right now, but I’m not sure how long they will have my size in this sale. I hope to get your honest reply soon. Thank you for this video; it helped to put a few things into perspective.

Honestly one of the best boards to learn AND progress on would be the Arbor Mantra. Most of those other boards are going to be a little too high end for a beginner/intermediate rider. The Mantra is taken from the Ethos but it has a little extra sturdiness and better base so it won't be something you would outgrow the performance of too quickly like with the Ethos or Elle. Here is a link to check out the Mantra (also note that if the pic on our site is a black snowboard we are getting it fixed, the MAntra is the same graphic but mostly white in stead of black) -> www.peterglenn.com/product/arbor-mantra-rocker-snowboard-womens

@MaryTruthSeeker 8 месяцев назад
@@PeterGlennSports thank you. I have looked at the Mantra and the Forum. And I am not knocking your advice- I seriously appreciate it. I do have a couple of questions though if you don’t mind. The Mantra is a directional twin. I’m pretty set on having a true twin. I will also be learning with my whole family who rides twin. And we are pretty ambidextrous. So what is the major reason you would recommend directional twin vs twin? The Mantra is pretty much just camber. Doesn’t that catch a lot? Many of the reviews and articles claim one of the rocker combos would be easiest to learn on. Which is one of the reasons I’ve been looking at the GNU GWO. It’s RCR and true twin. But my lack of experience has me wanting expert advice so I can get up and going this year. Can you explain why the camber instead of any rocker? Btw, your boot video was just what I needed. New boots that pinch my heels like crazy yet I can lift my heels in them just enough that I worry about blisters and performance! Going to test that out again today. Thank you for your help.

@MaryTruthSeeker 8 месяцев назад
Sorry, I misspoke. I forgot that the Arbor can be camber or rocker. Sure wish they made a combo true twin.
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 8 месяцев назад
@@MaryTruthSeeker The directional twin shape of the Mantra is purely 1 extra cm in the nose. If you look at the specs, the width of the nose and tail is identical as is the sidecut and even the stance is centered. They basically took a twin tip board and just added 1cm to the tip of the nose. Riding the board on flat snow will be exactly like riding a twin tip board. You just get a little extra help when you get into some deeper snow. Aside from that you would never know.
