It'd be cool for Oda to depict some Celestial Dragons questioning their ways, with all of the recent upheavals, it may force some of them to think harder than they'd ever had to before.
When I first saw that panel I had 2 distinct reactions, the one you talk about here about how they might not be taught openly about the void century but my other thought was maybe they just learn the entire true history from start to finish and they just didn’t even know it was this like huge deal to everyone because to them it’s just any other hundred years or something

I recall one movie where the main conflict occurred when the main protagonists caught a low-ranking member of a criminal organization. The boss was unconcerned until they realized that the prisoner was alive (not being willing to confess to murder and be executed for his honesty) and would talk under interrogation. So, the boss locked down the area and sent every member of their group to kill the protagonists (and or their prisoner) going to great lengths to do so. One of the protagonists eventually felt that the lengths meant to kill them were far too much and concluded that if they had executed their prisoner then the boss would have let them leave without incident. He stated that the boss was afraid of what the prisoner might reveal and that got him curious as to what would be worth all this trouble. In the end, the boss's efforts to stop information getting out ended up destroying everything they built, it would have been better for them to use the time to clear out.

Currently the only way I see the Gods Knights working without contradicting anything is if they ONLY act AGAINST other Celestial Dragons, policing their own is their sole job
Well I don't think any other Celestial Dragons have been harmed at Mary Geoise have they? Both Fisher Tiger's raid and The Revolutionaries raids didn't harm anyone, they were SPECIFICALLY to free slaves. Maybe the God's knights only act to protect CD's, not slaves. That could even be why both of those raids specifically never harmed anyone, so the god's knights wouldn't mobilize.
Well given what happens when a Celestial Dragon break one of the few rules they live under, I'm pretty sure every World Noble has it drilled into them to *never* so much as think about the void century.

I'm still of the mindset that we don't need some complex explanation (even though we'll probably get one). It already makes perfect sense given the structure of the world government that they would just tell the celestial dragons a fake history to prop them up as superiors. Having a fake history taught to them makes more sense than teaching any of them that a gap in history exists.

I think the reason Mjosgard was executed was not merely because he attacked Charlos but mostly because of WHY he attacked Charlos. A Celestial dragon attacking another celestial dragon FOR THE SAKE OF A COMMONER AND A MERE "FISH!" (their words not mine) I think that was the most scandalous part of the attack for the majority of the CD's
That does seem plausible, the one who executed him stated that gods who choose chose to protect trash became worth even less than trash. He seemed to justify his reasoning by stating that by choosing to protect a commoner, Mjosgard had made himself even less than a commoner.
If Celestial Dragons don't learn about all that secret stuff at a young age, how did Doflamingo find out? Bc he left Marijois as a child (and later became a pirate), so how would he have gotten valuable information about the secrets of Marijois, etc.?
Oda said in an interview once that he hated the celestial dragons and that's why they are drawn to be ugly, so since she has a more conventionally attractive look to her face maybe she will end up turning good, some of the celestial dragons will probably turn good just to show that the others are legitimately bad just like how Corrizon character partially exist to show that doflamingo isn't just a misunderstood guy

I am not sure why. But the panel with Shalria was the one that caught my eyes the most. I think it might have been the way Oda drew her as well. She didn't strike me as someone who was "objectively evil" as most celestial dragons seem to be portrayed as just by drawings alone. Made me think of a misguided soul who had been brainwashed her entire life. I might be looking into it way too much. But for me personally, I am more than ready to have the Celestial Dragons be fleshed out more in a more nuanced way.

And after having finished the video and now knowing that she is only 17, it makes it all more devastating if Oda decides to explore her character.
I love the idea of a soft spoiled child like Shalria being forced to undertake gods knight training and succeed, or being killed for knowing too much. From living with a silver spoon in her mouth to taking on actual hardships and responsibilities. That’s almost a series in of itself

I think it would make sense that if they wanted to keep the void century hidden they should’ve changed the year numbers. Like went from 100-199, then back to 100 and start from there again. That would easily be lost in history and could’ve happened in the real world for all we know.
@thymasta2 I believe you're right. I also believe it absolutely happened in real life, multiple times - and is happening now. As for the CDs, Rayleigh already told us that the One Piece and the Void Century is a matter of subjective perspective. That's why it's been so important for the kids to have their own adventures instead of taking Zeff's logbook or Rayleigh's knowledge of what it is.
It is also possible that Shalria does know about the Void Century, and that the reason she questioned it is because it isn't much of a "void" to them. They simply just know. (But it is likely not that, I am just putting that out there).
Doffy pretty much told us this during marine ford where two kids would have different issues like a poor kid being hungry C's a rich One ferri a doll. The celestial dragons are basically that and I doubt they'd care to learn inst of just have fun
Remember that Donflamingo knows some secrets of Mary Geoise. So obviously the celestial dragons get some knowledge. I think the ‘void century’ is off limits, but perhaps the celestial dragons get a slightly different ‘true history of the world’ that acknowledges *some* of the void century while skipping things like Imu and Joy Boy

I also find it hard to believe that they teach the void century. Because I strongly suspect that Imu has a lot of connections to the Void Century and no one except the Gorosei are allowed to know he exists. Not even other Celestial Dragons
They probably don't go into enough detail so kids do not actually realise there is a gap in history unless if they look into it. If there are no records of it, it is very hard to research.
What if they don't know about the void century because they ARE taught about it but are simply unaware that commoners are not. and whatever they learned in it could be a factor that contributes to their behavior.
I was always thinking: are the servants of Im just regular guys who are really good at keeping their mouths shut? Or maybe that's what a celestial dragon becomes if they want to learn about the void century, but suck at combat.
The Celestial dragons are terrible people but they are completely oblivious to how horrible they actually are. Likewise, maybe humanity in the real world is also terrible but we are so used to it we do not even notice. Things we think are normal could be terrible abominations. This is why Jesus came down to Earth and gave us his Holy Catholic Church to save us from ourselves and to teach us real morality.

I feel like the celestial dragons may do know about the “void” century but the reason that its called void century is because of the blank point in history for celestial dragons they would have no blank point in history so for them it wouldnt be called “void” century and just be a point in history for them
I think it's notable that in that panel, it felt like one of the few times gears were turning in the brains of one of the CDs that were both evil and incompetent.
I believe that vast majority of Celestial Dragons are truly just hedonistic idiots who don't know anything, but there's a tiny fraction of them who are actually running things and their job is to keep the other CDs happy. That fraction includes the Gorosei, the God Knights, and Imu.
I would think the Celestial Dragons are like the upper class of other dystopian societies like the Hunger Games. The people of the capitol don’t think about the society they live in beyond the Games as entertainment, because a people that don’t think aren’t a threat. So I think the Celestial Dragons get a bare minimum of schooling and just live hedonistic lives. This is probably the first time Shalria has ever heard of this.
If we put aside Imu the Gorosei and the holy knights. The rest of them probably knows or heard the bare minimum. Most of them are selfish self centered idiot and brings nothing politically. I'd like to point out that the reason everybody's favorite underwater species wasn't allowed to come to the surface was because a certain slave that had escaped the holly land returned and wrecked havoc in said holly land... now, I'm not saying Fisher Tiger was a cypherpol agent, but what happened when he returned might have been carefully orchestrated to make it politacally unpalatable for the fishmen's request to be granted. An excuse that couldn't be dismissed.
Your comment about whether or not the gods knights were added last minute really makes me want a book about the making of One Piece once it's finished. I really want to know how many things were foreshadowed so far in advance. How many things were truly Oda setting something up or was Oda taking a one-off thing and turning it into something bigger?
I always viewed Celestail Dragons as "victims of their upbringing". Yes, there are exceptions, but an average celestial dragon has no chance to become a good person. They are taught their entire lifes that being evil is the right way. That moment gives me a glimmer of hope that this idea may be explored further in the story.
Yeah, its like when you see a little kid like 10 or younger spouting some racist nonsense, like the kid is going to be a horrid person but its not because the kid is evil, they've just been taught it from day one. At some point in time they'll reach a point of no return, where they fully buy into it and they wont want to think otherwise, and continue the cycle. Its awful, and INCREDIBLY hard to fix. Itd be interesting to see what oda would say about it
Oda said that they (Terubito) are draw ugly because they are ugly inside and bad. But the ones that actually had some good inside of them are draw more normal. So since that moment I knew she would had a huge impact in the story.
If something happens with Shalria it will probably involve the Gods Knights in some manner, just with how story telling works. With how the Celestial Dragons lives work they seem to just actively pursue whatever their desires are, which probably started with lots of smart and able nobles studying and making things that has eventually degenerated into the hedonistic blob they are today. It would be crazy if Shalria is the island princess for Mariejoi, if she does survive that long.
i’ve always theorized sharlia would end up a “nice” or at the very least a less evil celestial dragon. any celestial dragon that looks like a normal person rather than a deformed person usually has something important going on with their character.

I’m really hoping Oda treats the God’s Knights kinda like the Warlords in terms of power. Like, a ranking system, where number 10 is like- Boa W/O Fruit Level, while Shanks’ Dad is stronger than a Gorosei. That way we would only have like- 5 actual threats, and there would be plenty of (comparatively) Fodder to go around. “Oh yes, it takes all of the Straw Hats to stalemate Shanks’ Dad, but Shanks and his crew took down the second in command, Blackbeard took down the 3rd and 4th, stealing their Devil fruits, and the rest were taken care of by the forces of the Revolutionary Army.” This way, we won’t be having to deal with TEN NEW POWERHOUSES when we literally just got the Gorosei.

I feel like the World Nobles COULD know about it, they're the top dogs after all. If they want to know about it, I don't think anyone would care. What if the confusion after vegapunk mentions the void century isn't because she doesn't know about it, but because she does? Like if someone from our world would mention a void century only to be talking about 1600-1700AD. To them its a huge mystery, but to us its just part of history you learn in school.
