No, it's not Brexit. Just over 21 years ago, the public was voicing strong views on both sides of what was then seen as the most pressing issue of the day, bar that of how to commemorate Diana, Princess of Wales, who had been killed in that fateful car crash 4 days previously. That is, whether The Millennium Dome was going to be a world-uniting fixture bringing new life to derelict parts of maritime London, or a massive white elephant that was a waste of taxpayers' money.
Many people believed there should have been a people's vote - or some chance to overturn the decision to go ahead with it and throw the plans in the bin.
As ever, Mr. Neil lent his weight to bear on this life-and-death issue.
Thursday Night Live was Carlton's late-90s incarnation of what begat today's The Big Questions on BBC1 being presented, as was this, with Nicky Campbell. Thursday Night Live was transmitted in the London ITV region only; however Campbell and Neil also presented a Midlands version, Central Weekend Live. Granada TV had a similar programme, Up Front, but with different presenters - usually Lucy Meacock with Anthony H. Wilson.
