Thank you to the social media team! I listen to these History Matters episodes every week. Lately the layout of the thumbnail images have been updated. As a marketing professional, I really appreciate the new layout. Having the topic in the layout is very effective in attracting new viewers. Having Joanne’s face in the thumbnail assures regular viewers that they have the right show. Putting the episode number in the corner is a plus for those of us who have been following Joanne since episode #1. Many thanks for all your hard work!!
Another great episode! Glad that Joanne talked about the current political atmosphere that makes people afraid to speak out, fearing repercussions. Also appreciated her answer to the question about keeping memories of bad political behavior fresh in voters minds. Hard to avoid people getting used to the scandals, bad behavior, the affronts to democracy. Can’t wait until the next episode!
I appreciate your emphasizing that losing democracy happens a little bit at a time. It feels like the door has been opened to political violence in a way that I have not experienced in my lifetime. Potential Republican rivals and gatekeepers are literally afraid for their lives and are not standing up to Trump. As flawed as Nikki Haley is, her recent displays of healthy disrespect have been refreshing.
I will take your comments about democracy, and you, more seriously when I see you debating, say, Peter Boghossian, on the utility of the university system.
We're all free to agree or disagree with Biden's policies, but democracy as a system is fundamental to even having policies. Life in a country with no policies and only a ruler is unpredictable and terrifying. Take a look across the dictatorial countries around the. world. When I say, 'USA' democracy is precisely what I mean. Isn't that true with you??
His name is Joe Biden. He has passed the most consequential legislation in our recent history. If you expect Medicare and Social Security in order to retire I recommend you vote for Biden not the Republican whoever they may be. That is huge deal for you as well I would think.
These are the most comments I have ever seen on these talks. I always watch later because the live version is so early for me. We do seem to have a monarchist on this page- someone oppposed to the ideas Dr. Freeman presented. I appreciate her talk, and the analogy of the closing door.
